Mojang’s Minecraft has been a monumental success since releasing for PC way back when, but its popularity truly sky-rocketed when it released for the Xbox 360. It’s now available for the PS3 as well with Vita, Xbox One and PS4 releases planned. Just how successful have the console releases been though?

According to a tweet by Mojang’s Patrick Geuder Saga, who handles data analysis, “Minecraft console editions together just passed Minecraft for PC/Mac. And across all platforms we’ve sold almost 54 million copies.”

That’s a pretty stellar amount and not the least bit surprising. After all, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has been a top selling game for nearly a year now in both the US and UK. The PlayStation 3 Edition has just recently joined it and is also selling fairly well. As of June 25th, the Xbox 360 version has sold 12 million copies while the PC version sold 14 million units.

Thoughts on Minecraft? Let us know in the comments below.

The results for last week’s software sales in the UK are in. According to the latest UKIE game charts (courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track), EA Sports’ FIFA 14 has managed to beat out Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall for first place among all platforms in the UK.

Titanfall has been riding high in first place for the past several weeks while FIFA 14 stayed in second so it’s no surprise that the former would’ve been bumped off sooner or later. Then again, FIFA 14 apparently outsold Titanfall by a some hundreds of copies. If Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein: The New Order weren’t out this week, Titanfall could’ve taken the top spot back.

The one new entry includes Minecraft: PS3 Edition in third place, which isn’t bad at all for a PS3 title. This is followed Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil in fourth and fifth respectively. The remainder of the top ten is composed of Call of Duty: Ghosts, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The LEGO Movie Videogame, Battlefield 4 and Grand Theft Auto V.

Minecraft will be heading to the PS3 at retail in the coming months, but it will be heading to the PS Vita and PS4 as well. Mojang’s Owen Hill spoke about the PlayStation Blog EU about allowing users to transfer their worlds from the PS3 version to the PS4 and apparently to the Vita as well.

“The plan is to enable users to transfer from PS3 to PS4. We’re still working out how it’ll work with the Vita version.”

At this point, you can expect both versions to be out in Q2/Q3 of 2014 so keep a look out till September. More details on cross-buy and upgrades will also be provided soon according to Hill. “We’ll have more news on cross-buy/upgrade options soon! I understand that the wait is frustrating, but we don’t want to make false promises.”

How does that sound for you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Sony has revealed that 4J Studios’ Minecraft: PS3 Edition will be arriving at retail within the next month, allowing many console players who haven’t had the chance to download Mojang’s open world sandbox to finally experience it for the first time. A new trailer has been released which showcases four player split-screen gameplay and up to 8 players online. Check it out above.

Minecraft: PS3 Edition will include all content from the PC version including Update 14. So you can look forward to Emerald, Jungle Temples, Zombie Villagers, trading with Villagers, an Anvil interface to allow you to name your own tools and weapons, and much more (insert Tower of Pimps reference).

We’re still waiting for the PS4 version of Minecraft, not to mention the Xbox One version which was announced at E3 2013. Will we see more definitive announcements at this year’s E3? Stay tuned for more information as the convention rolls around.

After the monumental success of the retail version for Minecraft: Xbox Edition, it’s now the turn of the PS3 version. Sony has confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be releasing for Blu-Ray next month.

“Following on from the successful [digital] release we’re pleased to confirm that Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be available on disc from 14th May, 2014 in all PAL regions. That means you can go into a real-life store, buy it with your country’s currency of choice, then take it home in a little bag.

“It comes with all the features you’d expect from the console versions of Minecraft, along with everything that came with update 14, including Emeralds, Ender Chests, potatoes and more.”

Minecraft has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide across all platforms. Will you be picking up the PS3 version? Do you want the AH Crew to finally incorporate it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Mojang’s Minecraft: PS3 Edition finally has a release date. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog NA, it will be coming out on December 17th for the PS3. The PS4 and PS Vita versions will be announced shortly.

A couple of questions have been answered about the same in the post. The PS3 Edition of Minecraft will include all content present in other console versions, and it’s been revealed that all versions will be developed in tandem rom now on. There will also be downloadable skins and texture packs available on PSN once the game releases. There’s a slight indication that PlayStation-specific skins and textures would be out but no confirmation yet.

There’s also no word yet on whether the PS3 Edition will support Remote Play or whether it’s compatible with the PS4 or Vita versions. But stay tuned for more details. And no, there’s no Herobrine in the PS3 Edition.
