Efforts from Treyarch and Bethesda continue to score big in North America.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are once again on top for North America’s PlayStation Network this month. The Revolution and Season Pass DLC for Black Ops 2 along with Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn for Skyrim are all in the top 5 list of downloadable content for March 2013.

Meanwhile, among the top 20 PS3 and PSN titles, MLB 13 The Show is on top with Journey and The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct at number 2 and 3. Terraria is also in the top 5, thanks to a particularly strong debut and Tomb Raider is at the fifth position.

It’s amazing to see Black Ops 2 and Skyrim DLC still in the top, since the both had their packs delayed constantly for PSN. That demand continues to be strong for all DLC packs points to a lasting appeal for both games – though we can’t say how great that is when it comes to Black Ops 2.

Stay tuned for April’s PSN charts to see if they’re still dominating the DLC charts.

This game will keep the baseball fans busy for a long time to come.

MLB 13: The Show is the brand new entry in the ever lasting exclusive Sony’s Baseball franchise. The MLB: The Show series is very well known for delivering great amount of content, customization to roasters and of course satisfying the needs of baseball fans. This year it has gotten even better with MLB 13: The Show. I will be breaking down each aspect of the game in greater detail including its visual presentation, new gameplay additions/content, feel of the game and an overall verdict at the end. Let’s start out with the game itself and it’s new additions.

The Gameplay and Content

MLB 13: The Show packs a whole lot of new content for baseball fans to enjoy and the game also introduces something called “Beginner Mode”. Beginner Mode makes the game much more accessible to newbie players who have played any of the previous MLB games. It’s a fantastic feature that you can turn on and off, when you play the game it makes everything easier. However, the better you get at hitting the ball, or pitching the harder it gets later on. The system adjusts difficulty of the game on the fly, if you learn quick how to play the game and get better at it, then the difficulty will start noticeably become harder.

If you are more of a slower paced learner and it takes you time to get good at something then the difficulty won’t be bumped up as much. Thanks for beginner mode, it makes the game much more less intimidating for those are interested in trying out the series for the first time and it also makes it a lot more interesting as the challenge gets harder.

MLB 13: The Show has finally created a Post-Season mode. Main purpose of this mode is to let the player jump straight into Post-Season without having to wait for the actual season to be over. You can play Post-Season with either 1 team or all of the 10 teams, it will also track your entire run of the games into the World Series. You may play Post-Season in single-player, head-to-head, co-op play and the game supports PlayStation Move if you’re interested in playing a different way. A lot of players have been asking for a game mode that let’s them just jump straight into post-season and the developers of MLB have finally made that dream come true.

For first time players will be able to play Online Home Run Derby mode cross-platform on their PS3 and PS Vita if they wish. The only biggest drawback of this is that Online Home Run Derby is the only mode that you can play cross-platform. PS Vita version is not included in the PS3 version, you have to buy them separately. Its kind of unfortunate , because the developers had a great opportunity to take an advantage of cross-platform play and it would let them sell more copies if they included the PS Vita version with the PS3 version, however that is not the case here.

As far as the game mode itself, it’s a ton of fun if you just like playing to make home runs and see how many you can get with your favorite player. You can choose different team stadiums to play on, pick any players how many rounds you want to go for. MLB 13: The Show packs pretty much every MLB team you can think of with all the major players in them. If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to score a crazy amount of home-runs with any of the Yankee players in a home-run derby, then here is your chance.

The Show Live mode is one of the more interesting game modes. This mode let’s players play exhibition-based games that are taken from MLB.com, it lets you play real world matches. The Show Live updates calendar event takes and new things on daily basis, as soon as you see an upcoming match on the calendar it will tell you which teams are playing and what players have taken which positions.

All of the statistics will be provided, that includes commentaries on previous match ups and everything else you can think off. Have you missed a favorite match that you wanted to play-out ? You can scroll back the calendar dates and play any of the matches that been played in the past. This is great stuff for the baseball fans.

Road to the Show is another great addition to the game. This mode is quite unique compared to others, it let’s you create a custom player, choose his position in the game and of course let’s you pick a team. What different about this mode is that the whole thing is based on a single baseball player and you play as that person on the field. The camera views are completely different and you have control over him depending on whatever position you picked. You can make him to be the guy who’s a batter, pitcher or just a dude who chills on the 3rd base trying to catch a ball. For MLB 13: The Show RTTS recieved the most upgrades, better camera views, addition of leaderboards, a full revamp of audio/game presentation flow and new controls for baserunning and fielding.

New to MLB 13: The Show is the Season mode, Season mode let’s you play out an entire season with 1 or all of the 30 teams. You can play this also play this in co-op if you wish for a more social experience even though you’re going against an AI. The goal of this gameplay mode is to start a season at Spring Training and get your teams to the World Series.

The Franchise mode is the same for the most, expect with the addition of a new training system and a few other small things. The new training system let’s you pick what you want the player to be constantly training at throughout the course of the season as you play. Franchise Mode is more for player that like team management, you can fire/hire people, trade players with other teams and so on. If you like think that game managing is more of your style of baseball play then this is the mode that I’d recommend you play.

League mode is similar to the franchise mode expect that it’s online and much more social. You can create or join a league and have up to a total of 29 other plays join you in your conquest for the World Series. The League owner plays the same role as the GM in the franchise mode. The GM can kick people from his team, invite someone else, create a league lobby for people to socialize and so on. The new additions to the League mode is the scheduling system, new creation options, manual advancement, a new way to view game history and the ability to scrimmage against opposite league players.

Diamond Dynasty

Diamond Dynasty is one of the core multiplayer modes in MLB 13: The Show. Diamond Dynasty lets players create a custom team from scratch, give it a name, location and of course let’s you customize every single team member on the roster. The team customization is really robust, you can create your own custom logo with a full logo editor, your “Away” and “Home” uniforms and so on. For the players you can change their first and last names, change their physical looks and even give them any player numbers.

You will probably spend a good few hours or so just customizing your team and making everything from the start. One of the most unique things about this game mode is that you also have something called “Budget Bonus”. Budget Bonus are points that you can earn as you play the game and complete certain in-game set of achievement goals (Not PS3 Trophies).

Once you have a achieved certain goal you will be rewarded a set amount of budget bonus points depending on the achievement, you can then later use these points to invest in your players individual and train them to become better at whatever it is that you desire. You can also of course just manage your roster in general, change up player rotations and so on.

There is also something called Dynasty Player and a MLB Player. Dynasty Players are you’re long-term investment players that you train over a long periods of times, MLB players are something that you can activate and use right away using the MLB collection cards and usually are used for quick and short term plays.

You can trade, buy, sell collection cards with other players, or you can purchase packs of cards via PlayStation Network by using budget. At the beginning you’re pretty much forced to use your custom created team, but once you start earning budget by pitting your team against a computer or head-to-head versus play online. You can also buy stadiums and train your players.

The ranking in Diamond Dynasty works just like the Elo system that is currently implemented in many popular online multiplayer competitive titles. MLB 13: The Show is no short of providing a robust multiplayer experience the developer has thought of pretty much everything they possibly can and executed it very well. Diamond Dynasty will last you a while, if you’re a huge fan of the previous series and cannot wait to get started on competitive online baseball play then this is your answer.

Every five games you play your team will be re-evaluated for placement in one of the five divisions, the five divisions are: Spring Training, Season Series, Division Series, Championship Series and World Series. So depending on how good you play you will always be re-evaluated every fifth game for a new placement.

Customization

The amount of customization in MLB 13: The Show is quite overwhelming. You can create and customize your own roster, modify sliders and even edit every single baseball player’s animations. Sliders allow you to change things like solid hits, contacts, power, timing, foul frequency, pitching, and plenty of more things. This basically makes the game completely editable, if you are looking to farm trophies then you come in here and chance sliders towards your favor.

Every slider is also separate for the human and computer controller, you can basically make your players have the lowest amount of possible foul plays and have the best hitting power and pitching while completely making the CPU weaker. This is awesome, if you’re having a hard time playing the game, you may mess around with these settings to make the game more easier or harder for yourself. The roster customization lets you can edit any of the teams and pick which the players pitching rotations and lineups. Overall the customization is pretty deep, you can also customize very specific things in some of the game modes if you wish.

Presentation

MLB 13: The Show is most likely the best looking baseball game you’ll ever play today. Not only does it look fantastic and plays well, it’s also presented in a great manner. Good looking menus, fitting soundtrack and in-game visuals are all well done. Everything from characters animations, sound effects and character models look and sound all top notch. The only small complain is the way the crowd looks. The crowd is completely 2D and it makes the game almost look like an older sport game where they didn’t have the technology to support more detailed crowds. This is a bit disappointing because it ruins the overall presentation in the stadium as you play the game. Everything looks great in the game and then when you see the crowd you just want to cringe a little bit.

Overall

MLB 13: The Show is the best baseball game on the market period. The game provides different ways of playing it, it allows you to edit the game that suits your personal play-style and the overall flow of the baseball games. If you’re a person who just enjoys a robust single-player baseball experience then there is plenty of ways to satisfy that hunger with the amount of game modes and customization this game provides. If players are looking for a deep competitive system then they can find that in the Diamond Dynasty mode where they can developer their own custom-made team as time progresses. Thanks to the game’s overall slick presentation, outstanding depth this game will keep the baseball fans busy for a long time to come and possibly until the next season starts which will be on the PlayStation 4.

The game was reviewed on the PS3.

Check out how this edition presents itself compared to last year.

SCE San Diego is back with a new developer blog for MLB 13: The Show, the upcoming baseball simulator for Playstation 3 and PS Vita releasing on March 5th 2013.

The new dev blog looks at the so-called “Road to the Show” and showcases the new features and presentation gimmicks that will be seen this time around. This includes new cameras on the field to give a more dynamic feel to the action and more realistic audio to go with the customization.

MLB 13: The Show is putting a lot of emphasis on the realism aspect but will also be overhauling its Diamond Dynasty mode to allow players to craft the perfect teams.

As if to make it more worthwhile, both the PS3 and PS Vita versions will feature cross play for competing against real-life opponents no matter where you go and cross-save for moving back and forth between playing at home and on the go.

Sony has released a new developer diary for MLB 13: The Show. The new dev diary shows community manager and designer Ramone Russell talking about the enhancements to the gameplay in the game, including new hitting modes and new features.

The video primarily talks about push/pull hitting and a new hitting mode that they’ve added. The beginner mode allows you to get the hang of hitting first, and then gradually increases the difficulty for you.

The team over at SCE San Diego has promised that the hitting will be much better balanced this time around, after complaints from players of the previous games that it was too hard and complicated.

Have a look at the video above to get a better idea of the new tweaks.

MLB 13: The Show releases on March 5 for the PS Vita and PS3. Stay tuned for more info.

The feature list is massive.

Sony has released a fact sheet for MLB 13: The Show–its upcoming game which is popular in the US. The game is being developed by Sony San Diego and will be released on the PS3 and PS Vita. We also have the cover images of both the version and they look pretty good as you would expect.

MLB 13 The Show improves upon what has been delivered in previous franchise releases, and also adds many new features that continue to push the envelope in the sports video game genre including an All-New Playoff Mode, a new beginner mode for an accessible pick-up-and-play baseball experience, and an improved Play Now mode for faster and simpler games.

With cross platform play in Home Run Derby mode and save functionality between the PS3 and PS Vita versions, The Show allows players to continue their season anywhere.

The game will be released on March 5 and just in time for Spring Training.

Here are the features of the game:

The “Post Season” Mode (PS3 & PS Vita) – MLB 13 The Show will introduce users to Post Season Mode this year as it offers quick entrance directly into the Post Season, fast-tracking your run to the World Series. The mode offers you the choice of selecting to play with one team, or all 10. All of the game control options you’ve come to know are available in this mode, including: single player, head-to-head play, co-op play, and PlayStation Move support.

Cross Platform Online Home Run Derby (PS3 & PS Vita) – MLB 12 The Show introduced Online Home Run Derby to PS3. MLB 13 The Show brings this experience to PS Vita with the inclusion of cross platform play. Regardless of whether users are logged into a PS3 or PS Vita, selecting an Online Home Run Derby match will gather users into one game experience.

Beginner Mode (PS3 & PS Vita) – In an effort to make The Show more accessible and to help users learn the fundamentals of the game, Beginner Mode has been added. Beginner mode uses an advanced, adaptive AI system that dynamically updates your skill level on the fly

New Push/Pull Hitting Trajectories Engine (PS3 & Vita) – New to MLB 13 The Show is our Push/Pull hitting trajectory tendencies engine. When you hit select during the pitcher-batter matchup, the in-game screen will show you if the current hitter is Extreme Pull, Pull Hitter, Balanced, Opposite field Hitter, or an Extreme Opposite field hitter.

Franchise and Season Mode Evolution (PS3 & PS Vita) – MLB 13 The Show is set on improving the user’s experience in Franchise mode by focusing on player development, while creating a more realistic and dynamic league as time progresses. Additions include a newly implemented team budget that focuses on a reward-penalty system which is solely based on a team’s performance on the field. This new budget system results in a more dynamic league, in which a low-budget team can become a big spender after a period of sustained excellence, mirroring real teams in the big leagues.

Road to The Show Evolution (PS3 & PS Vita) – One of the most popular aspects of MLB 13 The Show, Road To The Show, has been reworked this year in an effort to provide players with the most immersive and realistic on-field experience ever in a sports video game. More focus has been made to bring simpler control over a users’ player on the field in order to bring an unparalleled experience to the game.

The Show Live (PS3 & PS Vita) – The Show Live provides an exhibition-based mode using data from MLB.com to populate daily match-ups, line-ups and starting pitchers, giving users the opportunity to play in an environment that matches the “real-world.” The Show Live presents games in the same way as season-based modes, with up-to-date player and team statistics. Hear commentators reference the previous or next day’s events, based on real-world situations and information. Users have the choice to play a game from today, or turn the calendar back and play any game from earlier in the season.

Diamond Dynasty 2.0 (PS3) – Diamond Dynasty juggles aspects of team management, player progression, and online competition, with more creative freedom than any sports game to date. In order to improve Diamond Dynasty, feedback from The Show Nation was used to expand and fine tune the systems that make up the mode. DD will now be simpler to understand for new users, while also being easier to navigate and manage for previous users. In addition to being more intuitive, visual tutorials walk users through the more complex screens or systems within DD.

Diamond Dynasty introduces the Designated Hitter in MLB ’13. Users can choose whether they want to play by American or National League rules at their home park.

The Marketplace gets a haul over as well as users can post and cancel orders with ease. The Marketplace has gotten smarter, minimizing the amount of potential exploits.

The Dynasty card type has also evolved. Dynasty Cards now display more information about the player’s abilities. Each Dynasty Player has maximum thresholds he can reach in each attribute, so picking which cards to activate to a team has become much more important.

TruBroadcast Presentations 2.0 (PS3) – Adding new scenes, new cameras, new OSDs, new music and new audio, True Broadcast Presentations 2.0 continues to blur the line between reality and The Show. This year focuses on further refinement of game continuity through the restructuring of thousands of presentations but also a heavy emphasis on taking stadium ambiance and big game atmosphere to a new level.

New Scouting and Training System in Franchise Mode (PS3 & PS Vita) – A “human element” was incorporated into MLB The Show’s Scouting system, which affects the user’s decision making process when dealing with scouting directives, position changes and, ultimately, drafting a player. .

Road To The Show Commentary and Presentation Evolution (PS3) – The Road To The Show mode received a major commentary and presentation overhaul in an effort to bring the focus back to the player in the mode. Hundreds of new presentation scenes have been created and thousands of new commentary lines have been recorded to give the RTTS player the attention he deserves and to highlight notable single-game, single-season, and career achievements like milestones and records.

Online Road To The Show Leaderboard (PS3 & PS Vita) – Users can track their Offline Road to the Show careers and compare their player against all players from the community using RttS Leaderboards. Users can compare stats to see who is considered the best at their position, at similar levels. Users and their stats will be grouped by organization level: Double-A, Triple-A, MLB, as well as by position. All this will be tracked, displayed and sortable as long as you are connected online and PlayStationNetwork signed in.

Universal Profile (PS3 & PS Vita)– Universal Profile provides a central hub for any statistics a user records while playing The Show, Regardless of the modes or platform played, stats will be tracked and viewable in a user’s profile. In addition, profiles will have levels associated with them. As a user plays, they accumulate experience (xp) towards their profile’s level.

Button Accuracy Meter (PS3 & PS Vita)– Users will now have more control over the fielding aspects of the game than ever before. For users who choose the new button accuracy meter they will now have complete control over the fielders arm accuracy and arm strength. No longer will an errant throw be the result of a random dice roll.

Steve Lyons Joins The Booth (PS3 & PS Vita) – Joining the The Show’s Broadcast team for MLB 13 is MLB veteran Steve Lyons. Steve started his Broadcasting Career with Fox in 1996, and has called several Division & League Championship series with the network. Steve currently does Color Commentary for the LA Dodgers.

Steve brings new energy and insight into the game, refreshing the commentary for MLB 13 The Show.

MLB 13 Online Leagues Overhaul (PS3) – This year with MLB 13 The Show Online Leagues has been given a complete and total overhaul. New features include being able to play the real MLB schedule with all 30 teams, coupled with upgrades and refinements – like being able to manually control the pace of the league.
And...It's a home run!

Sony have released the first video for MLB 13 which apparently shows the PlayStation 3 version in action. The video features the obvious on field action. The game will also see a PS Vita release which will boast of several features like Exhibition, Season, Franchise, Home Run Derby, online play, and Road to The Show.

Sony have also included cross platform saves in MLB 13. Users can share save files between PS3 and PS Vita. However it will be limited to one file per mode per PlayStation Network account, which can be overwritten .

MLB 13 The Show will also support the PlayStation Move which recognizes how much effort you are putting into each pitch and recognizes a very natural release point.

MLB 13 The Show releases on both, the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on March 5th, 2013. As usual the game will only see a release in North America.

Stay tuned for our full review of both the versions. Will you be buying the game? If yes, what platform appeals you the most? Let us know in the comments section below.

The best Baseball series is back.

Sony has revealed a new trailer for MLB 13: The Show which showcases some new features. The game will be developed by Sony San Diego and is exclusive to the Playstation platforms and will also be made for the Vita. The trailer contains 10 Easter Eggs and all of them are worth finding out.

“In season modes, when a player is traded or joins a new team in the offseason, if they have a real photo it will be replaced with the cap screen shot. So basically if you do a fantasy draft franchise every player on your team will be wearing the correct hats and jerseys.”

Other new features include a completely new beginner mode and instructional enhancements that make The Show the best pick-up and play baseball experience available. In addition, the improved Play Now mode streamlines gameplay for the option to play faster and simpler games. San Diego Studios has also revamped The Show’s Franchise and Road To The Show modes with expanded options and new gameplay experiences that improve the highest-rated baseball video game on the market.

The game will be released on the PS3 and Vita on March 5, and will also support cross saves. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
