Nintendo had an excellent week in Japan for both software and hardware sales according to the latest Media Create sales charts for the period of August 11th to 17th. While the main focus was on Hyrule Warriors, which debuted at 2nd place with more than 69,000 units sold, it was actually Youkai Watch that was the star.

The 3DS sequel has been out for a while now but has only recently crossed 2.2 million units sold. It sold 118,526 units last week and yes, it’s lifetime total is now nearly twice that of the original (which stands at 1.245 million units and is currently in 9th place).

Other big releases included Yoshi’s New Island with 29,933 units sold (lifetime sales at 144,162) and Mario Kart 8 with 28,221 units sold (with lifetime sales at 627,635 units). The PS Vita had a surprisingly tame week despite the launch of Monster Hunter Frontier G which sold 21,169 units in its debut week. What are your thoughts on the success of Hyrule Warriors and Youkai Watch 2? Let us know below.

To be the first 4th gen Monster Hunter title for the PS3.

According to leaks from this week’s issue of Famitsu, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Frontier G is currently in development for the Wii U and PlayStation 3, which will mark the first time that any fourth generation titles have released for Sony’s console. The game originally released for PC and Xbox 360 in Japan earlier this year.

As of now, it is known that the Wii U version will allow for switching the display for playing on the GamePad, with support for the Pro Controller. Trophy support for the PlayStation 3 version hasn’t been confirmed.

Both versions will feature more or less the same content, with a “Beginner’s Pack” priced at 6,090 yen with a monthly fee of 1,400 yen to be included. A free downloadable version and trial period one week before the game’s official launch will also be made available. The PS3 version is slated to release on November 20th with a Wii U release on December 11th.
