It includes the base games, Kombat Pack 1, Khaos Reigns, all Kameo Fighters, Shang Tsung, the Premier skins, and much more.

NetherRealm Studios has revealed Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition, which contains the 2023 fighting game and all content released post-launch, like Kombat Pack 1, the Khaos Reigns expansion, and more. Check out the launch trailer below.

Retailing for $69.99, the Definitive Edition also includes Shang Tsung, six Kameo Fighters (including the recently released Madam Bo), the MK2 Movie Skin Pack, and the Tournament Liu Kang skin. You also get six Premier skins, instant unlocks for the Kameo Pack and Havik, and 1250 Dragon Krystals.

The base game’s price has also dropped to $49.99. A paid upgrade option for the Definitive Edition is also available.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Though director Ed Boon promised extensive post-launch support, rumors indicate that Khaos Reigns sold poorly. A second story expansion and Kombat Pack 3 were also allegedly cancelled. As for what’s next for the studio, stay tuned for updates.

Kombat Pack 2 and Khaos Reigns owners can get their hands on the Terminator 2 villain on March 18th, while Madam Bo is free for all.

Following a teaser last month, NetherRealm Studios’ next DLC fighter for Mortal Kombat 1 has finally received a full-fledged trailer. Terminator 2: Judgment Day’s T-1000 is the final Kombat Pack 2 character, carrying Robert Patrick’s likeness and voice alongside a penchant for pain. Check out all his moves below.

The T-1000 possesses a unique kit, like turning into metal and seemingly gaining super armor as he shrugs off several attacks. He can also transform his arms into hook swords a la Kabal and toss an enemy beside all the slicing and dicing with the many different blades. Then there’s his second Fatality, which mirrors a famous scene from the film while amplifying the brutality.

The T-1000 arrives on March 18th for Kombat Pack 2 and Khaos Reigns owners alongside Madam Bo, who joins the roster as a new Kameo Fighter free for all players. Her Fatal Blow is noteworthy since she smacks an opponent with her chanchla. Everyone else can purchase the DLC fighter on March 25th.

Fengjian Teahouse's owner joins the battle on March 18th. She's free for all players and has a uniquely gruesome Kameo Fatality.

Mortal Kombat 1 will receive its final Kombat Pack 2 fighter this month with the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. While it’s available early on March 18th, perhaps the more unusual addition is the new Kameo Fighter, Madam Bo.

As the proprietor of Fengjian Teahouse, she brings some interesting assists to the table. The latest teaser trailer sees Bo throwing a bottle at an enemy and smashing two together against their head before setting them ablaze with her cigarette.

One of her cooler moves involves sliding into an enemy and comboing them from the other side. Of course, Madam Bo also gets a Kameo Fatality, decapitating an opponent with a somersault kick, their head landing in a dish.

Madam Bo is available free for all players on March 18th. NetherRealm hasn’t confirmed any other content for Mortal Kombat 1, which has sold over five million copies since launch. Rumors claim the cancellation of another story expansion and Kombat Pack after the poor performance of Khaos Reigns.

The liquid metal-based Terminator brings his blades and general disregard for humanity to the Mortal Kombat universe next month.

NetherRealm Studios has announced that the final DLC character for Mortal Kombat 1, the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, will be available on March 25th. Kombat Pack 2 and Khaos Reigns expansion owners will get access on March 18th. Check out the latest teaser below, showcasing the Terminator in action.

Played by Robert Patrick, who lends his voice and likeness, the T-1000 was an advanced machine that utilized liquid metal to alter its shape. It allowed for blades to attack and even granted absurd durability. The former comes up during combat, while his metal form allows for transitioning between combos. Of course, he also has a Fatality that pays homage to his film.

Perhaps more intriguing, however, is Madam Bo as a new Kameo Fighter. Players will remember her from the Fengjian Teahouse during the base game’s story, where she plays a minor role.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review of it and the Khaos Reigns expansion. NetherRealm hasn’t commented on further support for the title, though it did add a new ninja inspired by Pink Floyd.

A release date for the classic villain's debut in NetherRealm's fighter has yet to be announced, but its semi-truck has made the jump.

NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 1 may not get a new Kombat Pack or story expansion based on rumors, but its current content plan is going smoothly. After Conan the Barbarian arrives on January 28th for all players, the final DLC character in Kombat Pack 2 will be the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Though we have seen his in-game appearance, a release date is still pending. In the meantime, director Ed Boon has also shared a short gameplay clip of its Fatality, which sees it behind the wheel of a destroyed semi-truck, running over its opponent. Fans will note this homage to the classic chase scene from the film, the difference being that Arnold Schwarneggar’s T-800 isn’t around to help.

Stay tuned for more updates and further gameplay of the T-1000 before its launch. Mortal Kombat 1 has sold over five million copies since launching for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Even if there are no new characters, it’s seemingly due to receive a new Pink Floyd-inspired ninja.

Those who own the Khaos Reigns expansion and Kombat Pack 2 can start playing the latest DLC character from January 21st.

After revealing his in-game appearance and Brutality, NetherRealm confirmed that Conan the Barbarian will join Mortal Kombat 1’s roster on January 28th. However, Kombat Pack 2 and Khaos Reigns owners can start playing on January 21st. Check out his gameplay trailer below.

Based on the 1982 film of the same name and featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger’s likeness, much of Conan’s moves involve his sword. Some particularly devastating moves include slicing and embedding his sword into an opponent’s shoulder before forcefully removing it, and powerful spins. He can also stab an enemy, his their body over his head and slam them down.

As for his Fatality, it’s pretty straightforward, as Conan boils his opponent in a cauldron, later extracting their skull to admire it. Meanwhile, his Animality involves morphing into a bull and goring threats.

Stay tuned for more details when Conan the Barbarian goes live. Mortal Kombat 1 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Check out our reviews for the base game and Khaos Reigns.

A brief look at Conan's Brutality is available before the DLC character's reported launch for Khaos Reigns owners next week.

NetherRealm Studios has dropped a new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, hyping Season 2 of the Pro Kompetition. However, near the end, it offers an in-game look at the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Conan the Barbarian, the final DLC characters in Kombat Pack 2. Check it out below.

Perhaps the best part is Conan’s Brutality, where he throws his sword in the air, shoves a dagger underneath Scorpion’s chin, and catches the sword to slice him in half. The T-1000, sadly, didn’t get much beyond turning its liquid metal blade into a hand, but the resemblance is spot-on.

Conan is the next DLC character and reportedly goes live on January 21st, the same day the current season ends, for Khaos Reign owners. The T-1000 lacks a launch date, so stay tuned for more details.

As for the future, WB Games allegedly cancelled Kombat Pack 3 and a second story expansion due to poor sales for Khaos Reigns. There may be two Kameo Fighters in the future, though it’s uncertain.

Mortal Kombat 1 hasn't enjoyed the sort of success that its predecessor did, and there's several factors contributing to that.

If there’s one gaming franchise that Warner Bros. can generally rely on to perform well, it’s Mortal Kombat. Sure, the fighting franchise has had its fair share of ups and downs over the years, but there’s a reason that it has grown into arguably the biggest fighting game franchise around, having delivered a number of stellar, standard setting fighting games over the course of multiple decades. In fact, the last decade and a half or so has been almost a second golden age for Mortal Kombat, with the franchise having hit a rich vein of form ever since it rebooted itself in 2009, following which it has generally enjoyed widespread critical acclaim and commercial success with each of its outings.

With Mortal Kombat 1, however, things seem decidedly different. After Mortal Kombat 11 came out, received extensive post launch support, and effectively brought the series’ ongoing narrative arc to a conclusive end, most assumed that MK would be put on the backburner for a while. Make no mistake, this is and always has been one of Warner Bros’ biggest gaming properties, so not for a second did anything think that Mortal Kombat 11 was the end of the series by any stretch of the imagination- but for many, the assumption was that NetherRealm Studios would take the opportunity to once again alternate between two active franchises, and give us Injustice 3.

But now, more than a year on from its launch, it’s clear that Mortal Kombat 1 represents a bit of a rare slump for the franchise. That’s not to say the game suffered poor reviews or sales- at least not in absolute terms. On paper, with a mid-80s aggregate score and over 4 million units sold as of August, on paper, Mortal Kombat 1 might not seem like a failure by any means- but there’s little doubt that it has backslid from where the franchise was until not too long ago. Mortal Kombat 11, for instance, had managed to sell 8 million units within roughly a year and a half of its launch, which means Mortal Kombat 1 is selling at a significantly slower rate.

It’s selling poorly enough, in fact, that WB Games has allegedly decided to take drastic action. Though NetherRealm Studios has supported Mortal Kombat 1 with plenty of post launch content in the form of a dozen DLC characters, several Kameo fighters, and a story expansion with Khaos Reigns, it seems like that’s going to be it. Known Mortal Kombat insider FateUnknown recently claimed that though NetherRealm had initially planned on releasing a third year’s worth of additional DLC fighters and another story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, due to the poor sales of the aforementioned Khaos Reigns expansion, WB Games has decided against it.

Clearly, interest in Mortal Kombat is currently uncharacteristically low- and looking at Mortal Kombat 1 and everything around it, it’s not hard to understand why. And that’s not just because of the fact that back-to-back Mortal Kombat releases might just have ended up being too much Mortal Kombat for some (and that’s not even counting both games’ post launch content).

One of the most common criticisms for this new Mortal Kombat timeline has ben related to its story, with this proving to be another instance of a multiverse story attempting to chase a trend that the general audience has actually grown sick of by now. It’s fair to say that the very concept of a multiverse story has worn out its welcome over the years (thanks primarily to Marvel and the many imitators it inspired), so to see Mortal Kombat falling into that trap has been disappointing for many. The storytelling in both Mortal Kombat 1 and Khaos Reigns has been roundly criticized, from the writing feeling too fanservice-y or major plot developments seeming rushed and underbaked to the general lack of stakes (thanks to the literally infinite clones of every character out there)- and that’s just scratching the surface.

And that’s not it, of course. Khaos Reigns in particular has received widespread criticism from the Mortal Kombat fanbase for more than a few reasons, on top of its narrative deficiencies, which we’ve already touched on. The expansion is too short, it’s priced to steeply relative to how much content it offers, and overall, doesn’t feel like the sort of comprehensive package that it needed to be after fans had already been left disappointed by the base game itself.

Unsurprisingly, Mortal Kombat 1’s monetization practices haven’t proven popular either. We touched on the overpriced Khaos Reigns expansion, but on top of that, similar controversies have also emerged thanks to the pricing of Fatalities, nickel and diming with alternate skins and announcer packs, and the sort of FOMO exploiting practices that we see in games all too often. Granted, aggressive montization is a growing epidemic in games in general (especially where fighting games are concerned), but for a game that has more than a few issues elsewhere, egregious monetization becomes harder to forgive, which is exactly the situation Mortal Kombat 1 finds itself.

To be entirely fair, the game itself has it’s fair share of strengths. From its typically top notch production values and its gorgeous visuals to the stellar fighting mechanics, Kameo system, and more, Mortal Kombat 1 has enough on offer to keep genre fans satisfied for a good amount of time. The problem, however, that expectations from Mortal Kombat generally tend to be higher, and with this outing, the series has definitely fallen short. The fact that it only spiraled further downward with the Khaos Reigns expansion did it no favours either. If it did indeed perform poorly and prompted a cancellation of future post launch plans for MK1, it wouldn’t surprise us.

What that means for the future of Mortal Kombat is the question that many will ask, though it seems safe to assume that the series’ future is secure, to say the least, even with this stumble taken into account. Just recently, WB Games confirmed that it was refocusing efforts on a narrower set of major gaming properties, and explicitly mentioned Mortal Kombat as one of them. Clearly, we’re going to see plenty more Mortal Kombat in the future.

What form that will take should be interesting to see. Mortal Kombat 1’s time in the sun seems to be done, which probably means we’re going to get a new instalment earlier than expected. How NetherRealm Studios will look to address the biggest narrative related complaints that many have had with MK1 and its expansion remains to be seen, but clearly, the developer is going to have to do something. Does that something involve taking a break from the series, developing Injustice 3, and then going back to Mortal Kombat in the aftermath? I, for one, wouldn’t mind that in the slightest- hell, I’d prefer it. We’ve had an unbroken string of several consecutive years of Mortal Kombat activity, so maybe the smart decision now would be to avoid fatigue and burnout and maybe let something else shine for a while.

The cancellations reportedly occurred recently, though the 2023 fighting game could still receive one or two more Kameo Fighters.

WB Games is focusing on core franchises like Mortal Kombat going forward, but that may not include Mortal Kombat 1. According to insider FateUnknown on the Mortal Kombat leaks subreddit, a third Kombat Pack and second story expansion have allegedly been cancelled.

This seemingly occurred recently, with Kombat Pack 2 marking the final slate of DLC characters. Though a Kameo Fighter or “two” were worked on and may still be released, they’re unsure if this is actually happening. As for why both were shelved, it’s reportedly due to poor sales of Khaos Reigns, which launched on September 24th.

As the first story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, it received mixed reviews for its short length, pricing, and average story-telling (check out our thoughts here). Those who purchased it received Kombat Pack 2 with three characters- Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot. Ghostface was recently added with the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Conon the Barbarian remaining.

Stay tuned for further updates on their launch dates in the coming months.

Scream's Ghostface will join Mortal Kombat 1's roster of characters as guest DLC fighter later this month, on November 26.

When Mortal Kombat 1’s expansion, Khaos Reigns, launched in September, in addition to a new story campaign, it also brought three new characters, along with the promise of three more guest DLC fighters to arrive in the coming weeks. The first of that group, Ghostface from Scream, is set to launch later this month, ahead of which WB Games has released a new gameplay trailer showcasing what the knife-wielding killer will bring to the table.

As you’d expect, Ghostface’s moveset is heavily reliant on his deadly knife and his vicious slashing skills, combined with his ability to call in other Ghostfaces to his aid. His Fatality, meanwhile, is suitably horrific, as he sneaks up on Johnny Cage as he’s playing Mortal Kombat 1 and brutally stabs him in the back (while Ghostface executes a Fatality on-screen in Johnny’s game as well). Check out the trailer below.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Ghostface will join the game’s roster on November 26, but early access will kick off on November 19 for owners of the expansion, its bundle, or the Kollection.
