A tough but fair fight is great, but these bosses mistake a challenge of skill for a test of endurance and the like which in turn, make them annoying.

Boss fights are better left as a test of your skills rather than that of your patience and endurance, the latter of which in some cases make the fight more annoying than fun. To that effect, here are 15 of the most annoying bosses in games that will drive you crazy.

Uncharted 2 – Zoran Lazarević

Uncharted 2 is considered to be one of the finest games of the PS3 generation, although its final boss does leave a sour taste in most players’ mouths. The fight against Zoran Lazarevic isn’t the toughest, but it requires players to be almost perfect with their moves and sustain that momentum for a considerable amount of time. Lazarevic cannot be killed by traditional means, and players have to strategically make him chase you around the arena so as to be able to shoot the blue resin whenever he’s near. He takes a lot of hits to go down, although it would only require a couple of his grenade shots for you to lose this battle.

Even if they weren't always the focus like Liu Kang or Shao Kahn, these characters still had some good moments throughout the series.

Mortal Kombat as a series has provided us with numerous memorable heroes and villains, from Liu Kang and Scorpion to Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung. Not every character gets a chance to shine though and most are relegated to the background for the most part. Let’s take a look at some of the more underrated characters in the franchise and what made them stand out.

Ferra and Torr

One, or rather two, of the most bizarre fighters in the franchise, Ferra and Torr were bodyguards for Kotal Kahn in Mortal Kombat X. While Torr is the muscle, possessing exceptional power, Ferra is a quick and agile warrior. They’re essentially a symbiotic duo and serve as an incredibly interesting combat option but ultimately, they would be set aside after being defeated by Sub-Zero.

More than perhaps any other genre, fighting games offer the kind of mechanical depth that you can lose yourself in for years. Learning the ins and outs, learning and perfecting combos, and so many other things that make this one of the most competitive genres in gaming, even on a professional level now. But you don’t have to be playing against another human to be challenged in a fighting game. Throughout the years, this genre has thrown multiple final bosses at us that have got us all collectively pulling our hair out. In this feature, we’ll be taking a look at fifteen such fights.

MIKE TYSON (PUNCH-OUT!!)

One of the greatest athletes of all time is just as formidable in 8-bit form as he used to be in real life at his prime. Starring as the final hurdle in Punch-Out!!, Mike “Iron Mike” Tyson pulled no punches. Right off the bat, he hurled a barrage of attacks at the player that required a series of precise dodges, while what followed was a series of fast, hard-hitting attacks that could make even the most season players sweat.

There's always room for more and these characters deserve their shot.

There are tons of different fighters in the Mortal Kombat universe. Some are pre-Mortal Kombat 9’s reboot and some came into prominence after that. Thanks to Mortal Kombat 11 ending the way it did we wouldn’t be surprised if some of them made a comeback. Let’s take a look at 10 more characters we’d like to see as DLC in NetherRealm’s current fighter.

Sindel

Everybody screams in Mortal Kombat but there’s only one screamer who revels in it – Sindel, the Queen of Edenia. Sindel’s powers are actually derived from air magic – she can hover in mid-air, channel magic to shoot fireballs and of course, screams at enemies to stun them. Not content slaying with her voice, she also uses her hair to grab opponents and toss them around (or slam them multiple times into the ground like in Mortal Kombat 9).

From the lowest of lows to the bloodiest of highs - see how all the main titles stack up in retrospect.

Mortal Kombat 11 is coming next month and the series has never looked more viciously entertaining. So what better way to celebrate than by ranking the main titles in the franchise’s gory history? Upgrades and updated versions (like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Gold) won’t be considered here though. Without further ado, let’s start with the bottom of the barrel.

Mortal Kombat Special Forces

Mortal Kombat Special Forces released after Mythologies and some how turned out worse. The “story” saw Jax trying to stop Kano and his gang from obtaining an artifact. Yes, that’s really it. Combined with awful action, no real gore and pathetic design, Mortal Kombat Special Forces could only be possible if many members of the development team, including co-creator John Tobias, just up and left. Which is exactly what happened. Co-creator Ed Boon would further confirm the various problems plaguing development, even though he didn’t work on it either.

Throughout its convoluted history, Mortal Kombat has had a number of awesome points.

Next to Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat has one of the most storied histories in all of gaming. What started as a controversial, bloody fighter eventually evolved into a controversial, bloody fighter with a pretty big list of memorable moments. What were some of the coolest moments in the entire Mortal Kombat series? Let’s take a look at 15 of them here.

Reptile, the Secret Boss – Mortal Kombat

Back in the boom period of arcade fighting games, Reptile was a super secret fighter in Mortal Kombat that couldn’t be fought unless certain conditions were met. In fact, Reptile himself would provide clues on reaching him, which meant obtaining a Double Flawless victory in the Pit in single-player mode and finishing the match with a Fatality. Once fans actually fought Reptile, he revealed just how cold-blooded and brutal he could really be. Such was the positive response to Reptile’s inclusion that he became a series regular from the second game onwards.

They don't seem all that bad today but these moments seriously scared us back in the day.

We’ve all had moments while growing up that were terrifying at best, permanently scarring at worst. While they may not hold a candle to today’s scares, some genuinely chilling moments can be found in video games from our childhood. So let’s take a look at 15 such moments, examining the chilling and the downright unnerving.

The Hall of Bodies – Metal Gear Solid

Throughout Metal Gear Solid, the atmosphere is one of danger and thrills. Then, you come across an entire hallway littered with bodies, the walls painted red with crimson. The battle with Gray Fox, the cyber ninja that cleaved off Revolver Ocelot’s hand, is coming. The situation was dire enough but the red hallway turned it up a notch.

For every boss fight in today’s modern age that makes us question our patience, there are boss fights from the old days that did much more. These weren’t bosses that were simply difficult. Let’s take a look at 14 of the hardest retro boss fights of all time.

If you were bold enough to battle C’thun in World of Warcraft, then you were in for some pain. Introduced with patch 1.9 in 2006, C’thun was insanely tough, randomly swallowing select players and digesting them slowly. Such was C’thun’s power that he could insta-kill raid group members with a single beam attack. Even weakening him for short periods of time did little to affect his health. When Blizzard realized that C’thun was effectively unbalanced, it stepped in to nerf him. Those who were there, however, will remember his terror forever.

At times, you'll be asking whether these bosses are really worth the effort.

We’ve explored numerous bosses in video games, from the hilariously weak to the oddly designed. While there have been bosses that let you walk all over them, there are also those who can seem unbeatable. This isn’t to say they’re actually unbeatable but different folks will have different strokes in the process. We’ve outlined 15 bosses that can be borderline impossible to defeat in the past so let’s take a look at 15 more bosses that fit the bill.

Dark Samus (Hypermode) – Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Dark Samus can be quite the annoyance when you’re trying to wrap up Samus’s latest adventure. However, play on Hypermode and it’s a whole other ball game. Her attacks can be difficult to dodge, she dishes them out frequently and you then have to deal with another boss right after. Suffice to say, you better know what you’re doing when fighting her.

These screeches and screams still make us terrified!

When it comes to horror in any media, subtly is king. Sure, the jump scare and a robot bear leaping out at you might make you jump once or twice, but the truly great scares in gaming hit the player well before they even see the actual foe, usually due to some sublime sound design and hints that begin to build the tension well before and even up until that moment when the things that want you dead finally catch up with you. Slight spoilers ahead.

The Last Of Us – Clickers

Out of the variety of zombified fungal terrors that make players slowly peak around every corner in the last of us, none is quite so terrifying as the Clicker. The telltale clicks that gave them their namesake are how they see, and how the player knows to be very careful, if they see Joel, not only will they immediately jump him, easily ending the game, but they have a terrible aggro screech that makes us jump every time.
