There's always room for more and these characters deserve their shot.

There are tons of different fighters in the Mortal Kombat universe. Some are pre-Mortal Kombat 9’s reboot and some came into prominence after that. Thanks to Mortal Kombat 11 ending the way it did we wouldn’t be surprised if some of them made a comeback. Let’s take a look at 10 more characters we’d like to see as DLC in NetherRealm’s current fighter.

Sindel

Everybody screams in Mortal Kombat but there’s only one screamer who revels in it – Sindel, the Queen of Edenia. Sindel’s powers are actually derived from air magic – she can hover in mid-air, channel magic to shoot fireballs and of course, screams at enemies to stun them. Not content slaying with her voice, she also uses her hair to grab opponents and toss them around (or slam them multiple times into the ground like in Mortal Kombat 9).

Fatalities have always been over-the-top but some just plain jump the shark.

As a series, Mortal Kombat has prided itself on its violence. The blood and gore is capped off with the Fatalities, brutal finishing moves which sees enemies ripped apart in glorious ways. Not every Fatality has exactly been that gruesomely awesome though. Some have been downright embarrassing, illogical or both. With Mortal Kombat 11 out this month, let’s take a closer look at some of the least flattering Fatalities throughout the series.

Head Inflate (Kabal) – Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

In a way, this movie is kind of embarrassing for the opponent. Who likes to be filled with air until their head balloons up and they float away, only to explode in the sky? However, when you think about it, the Fatality itself is absurd. It’s almost too over-the-top and comedic, from the set-up to the underwhelming pay-off.

The good guys don't always win the fight.

Happy endings in video games are far from a given. Sometimes, the odds you’re up against just don’t turn out in your favour. Either because of the choices you’ve made throughout your playthrough, or because the narrative was always doomed to end badly for the heroes, the good guys, whatever you choose to call them- sometimes, their defeat seems inevitable.

In this feature, we’ll be taking a look at fifteen games where despite all your best efforts (or perhaps because of all your worst ones), the villains ended up coming out victorious.

Obviously, there will be spoilers ahead for every game on this list. If you see us mention a game you don’t want spoiled, skip ahead to the next entry.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION

Red Dead Redemption saw John Marston fighting with all he had to escape the cycle of violence that his life had been caught in since he had been taken in by Dutch van der Linde as a boy, but we all saw how that turne out. Things kept spiralling out of control, and Marston’s past came back to bite him with the deplorable Agent Ross marching down on his ranch with a posse an tearing him apart with a barrage of gunfire. Jack would go on to avenge his father and kill Ross, but in doing so, he also ended up entering the life his father had tried so hard to keep him out of.

From the lowest of lows to the bloodiest of highs - see how all the main titles stack up in retrospect.

Mortal Kombat 11 is coming next month and the series has never looked more viciously entertaining. So what better way to celebrate than by ranking the main titles in the franchise’s gory history? Upgrades and updated versions (like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Gold) won’t be considered here though. Without further ado, let’s start with the bottom of the barrel.

Mortal Kombat Special Forces

Mortal Kombat Special Forces released after Mythologies and some how turned out worse. The “story” saw Jax trying to stop Kano and his gang from obtaining an artifact. Yes, that’s really it. Combined with awful action, no real gore and pathetic design, Mortal Kombat Special Forces could only be possible if many members of the development team, including co-creator John Tobias, just up and left. Which is exactly what happened. Co-creator Ed Boon would further confirm the various problems plaguing development, even though he didn’t work on it either.

Throughout its convoluted history, Mortal Kombat has had a number of awesome points.

Next to Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat has one of the most storied histories in all of gaming. What started as a controversial, bloody fighter eventually evolved into a controversial, bloody fighter with a pretty big list of memorable moments. What were some of the coolest moments in the entire Mortal Kombat series? Let’s take a look at 15 of them here.

Reptile, the Secret Boss – Mortal Kombat

Back in the boom period of arcade fighting games, Reptile was a super secret fighter in Mortal Kombat that couldn’t be fought unless certain conditions were met. In fact, Reptile himself would provide clues on reaching him, which meant obtaining a Double Flawless victory in the Pit in single-player mode and finishing the match with a Fatality. Once fans actually fought Reptile, he revealed just how cold-blooded and brutal he could really be. Such was the positive response to Reptile’s inclusion that he became a series regular from the second game onwards.
