As the last surviving scion of the monster-hunter family, Trevor Belmont embarks on a new adventure from the Dead Cells developer.

Evil Empire and Motion Twin of Dead Cells fame are working on Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, on a new 2D exploration-action title produced by Konami in celebration of the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

It follows a young Trevor Belmont, the family’s signature Vampire Killer whip in tow, as he leaps, swings, and attacks enemies who stand in the way of his goals. It’s set in Paris in 1499 and follows Belmont’s efforts to deal with an invasion by the monsters his family is known for slaying. The game’s art style and visuals are spot-on, while the action flows smoothly with fluid animations and tight combat showcased in the trailer.

The Vampire Killer isn’t the only weapon at Belmont’s disposal, as he’s seen brandishing a sword, slashing away at his enemies with stylish abandon. While there is no information on the story and other weapon types that might make an appearance, expect a world filled with mysteries to uncover, a lot of fighting to get through, and secrets to hunt down as Belmont makes his way across burning streets and gothic buildings that are quite in line with the franchise’s general tone.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse drops for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC sometime this year. You can check out the trailer below.

Motion Twin wants teammate revival to feel like an "epic moment" and a "true high point," though further details are pending.

Motion Twin’s Windblown is currently available for PC via Steam Early Access and is off to a decent start, with 89 percent of its 3,221 (and counting) user reviews positive. However, there are still areas to improve on, including Sudden Death. Available in co-op, the mechanic tasks living players with slaying ten enemies to revive their slain teammates, which is a problem during boss fights.

The developer understands it’s a “major point of conversation for our Community” and it’s “paying close attention to as we look at ways to iterate and improve upon the feature.” It also discussed its intentions for the feature, from ally deaths having significant consequences to co-op feeling more strategic and opting for team survival over simply stacking DPS.

While it’s not going to scrap the current version of Sudden Death, Motion Twin agrees that it’s “harsh and maybe even unfair for some of you.” As such, it wants to make it into “an epic moment where reviving your teammates feels like a true high point.” How this will work remains to be seen, so stay tuned for further details in the coming weeks.

Windblown offers five biomes and 12 weapons in early access. There are plans to add more, but the development team is also focused on additional Trinkets, skins, enemy types, Magifishes, quality-of-life features, and Vortex lore.

Motion Twin is currently focused on gathering feedback from players and polishing "everything that we think in a rough state."

Motion Twin’s Windblown is now in early access, offering 12 weapons and five biomes for rogue-lite fans to tear through, solo or co-op. However, it’s only the start of the journey. There will be more levels, weapons, and biomes, but what does the team have planned for the imminent future?

In a new Steam post, Motion Twin revealed that it’s focusing on gathering feedback and polishing “everything that we think in a rough state” (which it admits is “a lot”). New content will also include additional enemies, Trinkets, gifts, Magifishes, and skins, though there’s no timeline aside from “once the game is stable.”

Perhaps more interesting is implementing more choices between biomes, new gameplay mechanics, looking at ways to make single-player “useful” for multiplayer and vice versa, and more. You can also expect more lore about the Vortex, quality of life features, improved Steam Deck performance, and more accessibility options (though it could take more time due to the team wanting to get things right).

Console versions could also happen if the game is “successful enough.” The team consists of 12 developers – eight internally and four freelancers – so they could be developed in parallel. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months.

From the team behind Dead Cells, the isometric hack-and-slash rogue-lite currently includes 12 weapons and five biomes to explore.

Dead Cells developer Motion Twin’s newest title, Windblown, is available now on PC via Steam Early Access. As a rogue-lite, the story focuses on the Leapers as they attempt to escape the brutal Vortex. Check out the animated trailer below for a hint of what struggles await.

Unlike Dead Cells, Windblown is an isometric hack-and-slash title with a dashing mechanic akin to Hades. Contrasting the colorful environments and cutesy characters is the fast-paced combat. By switching weapons at the right moment, players can unleash powerful attacks unique to each of the 12 available weapons. There’s also support for up to three players in co-op for even more chaos.

Windblown launches with five biomes, though Motion Twin has plans to expand on this and add new weapons, levels, etc. Early access will last for at least a year, and while 1.0 will see a price increase, it may also go up depending on the released content. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Explore the first biome and home village of Motion Twin's upcoming isometric rogue-lite before it enters early access next week.

The Steam Next Fest is now available until October 24th and provides access to dozens of demos for upcoming games. One promising example is Motion Twin’s Windblown, a 3D isometric hack-and-slash title which enters early access on the same day the Fest ends.

Though the game supports up to three players in co-op, the demo is single-player focused (with progress transferring to the early access version). It throws players into the thick of it, offering a dinky butcher knife and three passives to choose from at the start. You’ll find other weapons, including a secondary, and upgrades like Curses lowering their damage output on afflicted enemies.

When you die, it’s back to the Ark, the starting village and home base where you can pick up a healing flask and invest Cogs collected during runs for permanent upgrades. Only the first biome, Golem Guardians, is available to explore in the demo, but the early access version features four more and 12 different weapons.

Windblown will remain in early access for at least a year, so stay tuned for further updates. Check out some extensive gameplay in the meantime.

Early access includes five biomes and 12 weapons, though a single-player demo will also be available during Steam Next Fest.

Motion Twin’s Windblown will be available for Steam Early Access on October 24th. Before that, a free demo will go live from October 14th to 21st as part of Steam Next Fest, though it’s single-player only. Those who participate can unlock a “Guinea Pig” skin for use in the early access version. Check out the trailer below.

Windblown will remain in early access for a minimum of one year and features five biomes and 12 weapons. Up to three players can play together with the full version offering even more biomes, levels, weapons, and more. The price will also increase upon exiting early access, but there may be a slight bump during the period “if we feel we have brought significant content and value to your experience.”

Like with Dead Cells, Motion Twin will take feedback from players during early access, whether it’s through surveys or playtest sessions. There will also be a Discord server dedicated to the title coming next year.
The final content update for Motion Twin's acclaimed rogue-like brings new weapons, Cursed Mobs, Cursed Biomes, and more.

After nearly a year since its announcement, Dead Cells’ The End is Near update is now available. It first entered alpha testing on Steam in August 2023 and marks the end of support for the acclaimed side-scrolling action rogue-like. Check out the release trailer below, which also highlights the game’s journey and contains some messages from the development team.

The End is Near offers three new weapons – Anathema, Indulgence, and Misericorde – along with three new Cursed Mobs – Sore Loser, Doom Bringer, and Curser. Cursed Biomes are where the new enemies reside, and while there’s a risk to exploring them, you can discover gear that’s +1 level higher. There’s also a slightly higher chance of encountering Cursed chests.

Other new content includes 20 new Legendary Affixes and new flame heads to resemble characters like the Time Keeper and Queen. Several connections between biomes have also changed, allowing players to visit both areas from the Return to Castlevania DLC in one run.

While support for Dead Cells has ended, Evil Empire is working on The Rogue Prince of Persia. Motion Twin also has a new co-op-focused rogue-lite Windblown entering early access this year.

The End is Near update introduces Cursed Mobs and Biomes alongside new Legendary Affixes, weapons, balance changes, and more.

The final content update for Motion Twin’s Dead Cells, The End is Near, finally has a launch date for consoles and PC. It arrives on August 19th, per the developer on Twitter.

The End is Near entered the alpha stage in August 2023, with Steam players capable of testing it. Though it received patches and entered beta in September, there wouldn’t be any details until February 2024, when developer Evil Empire announced the end of content support.

It will continue fixing bugs and other issues going forward, though the focus will be on the studio’s next game, Windblown. The latter enters early access for PC later this year.

The End is Near introduces new Cursed Mobs, capable of stacking curses on players. Curses mean any single hit will insta-kill The Beheaded, but they can be removed by slaying enemies. Other notable additions include Cursed Biomes, where Cursed Mobs reside and provide ample rewards for clearing them, and three new weapons.

Nearly 20 new Legendary Affixes will also be added alongside balance adjustments (like The Bank becoming slightly easier at certain Boss Cell levels). Stay tuned for detailed patch notes ahead of its launch.

The roguelike action game by Motion Twin, the creators of Dead Cells, continues to look promising in its newest trailer.

Dead Cells creators Motion Twin announced 3D action roguelike Windblown at The Game Awards last December and instantly caught the eye of a fair few people, and the studio has now offered another look at the game with a new trailer at the recent PC Gaming Show, while also confirming an early access release window.

Windblown will be in familiar territory for Motion Twin, being a roguelike, but it is, of course, also carving out its own identity as a fully 3D experience. Its gameplay will also put emphasis on speed and agility, thanks in large part to all playable characters being equipped with back-mounted thrusters that let you dash about the battlefield. Players can also switch weapons in the middle of a run, while the game also features support for both solo and co-op gameplay for up to three players. Watch the trailer below for another look at how it’s shaping up.

Windblown is scheduled to launch for PC in early access at some point later this year.

Motion Twin has also revealed new details on Alterattacks, Crystallize attacks, Trinkets, Gifts, Fish and unlocking weapons.

Motion Twin of Dead Cells fame announced a new project at The Game Awards 2023 – Windblown, a 3D action roguelike with a co-op component. The announcement trailer emphasized the game’s colorful style, but a new two-minute video is available highlighting the gameplay. Check it out below.

Windblown sees players battling against the Vortex and its Sentinels threatening the sky islands where they reside. Defeating bosses and locating hidden treasure chests confers new weapons, and players can equip two at a time.

Alterattacks can “unleash the secret move of one weapon by using the other throughout an encounter”, and Crystallize attacks serve as finishers. The latter also refills the player’s energy and increases rewards. Executing simultaneous Crystallize attacks with other players also increases their damage.

You can also collect Trinkets with unique abilities like creating poison clouds or bombs; Gifts for passive bonuses, including firing arrows on weapon hits or healing after slaying an enemy; and Fish, which can pull off feats like swallowing enemies (and grant more rewards when hit).

Windblown enters early access this year for PC via Steam. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months, especially when the next closed playtest rolls around.
