The full-screen UI for handhelds offers a more console-like experience and will roll out to other OEMs in "the coming months."

Microsoft has expanded the Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE), a controller-first shell which boots straight into the Xbox app, to additional Windows 11 handhelds, with MSI Claw models now included for Windows Insider (Dev/Beta) users. The company notes FSE aims to minimise background tasks and prioritise game performance while delivering a console-style, distraction-free interface.

To enable it on supported Claw units, Insiders can head to Settings, then Gaming and Full Screen Experience, set Xbox as the Home app, and choose to enter it at startup. Microsoft reiterates that the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X have it already, and that additional OEMs will receive support “in the coming months.” This MSI rollout is a part of this staged preview, following its debut on Asus hardware.

Bottom line: If Microsoft keeps tightening boot flow and input handling, the Xbox Full Screen Experience could turn Windows handhelds like the Claw into “pick-up-and-play” machines. They would feel less like desktops and more like consoles with better mainstream appeal.

The MSI Claw is the first competitor to the Steam Deck to make use of Intel's chipset, including Intel's ARC graphics.

During CES 2024, MSI has officially unveiled its Steam Deck competitor—the Claw. The handheld gaming PC is the first one coming to market that makes use of Intel’s Core Ultra chip over the traditional use of AMD’s chips. This also means that its graphics processing will be handled by Intel’s ARC graphics chipset.

Owing to Intel’s technology, the MSI Claw features up to 8 Xe cores in its integrated graphics processing hardware. This also allows the handheld to make use of features like XeSS super-sampling, as well as a host of advanced video codecs like AV1, H.265 and VP9.

Other features of the MSI Claw include MSI’s own Cooler Boost Hyperflow technology that makes use of dual fans and heat pipes, and a 53Whr battery, which the company claims offers 2 hours of battery life when the device is under a full workload. The system features a 7-inch 1080p display with a refresh rate of 120Hz.

On the software side of things, the MSI Claw runs on Windows 11, and makes use of the MSI Center M UI to offer a more controller-friendly interface, allowing quicker access to key features and settings, as well as a game launcher. Owing to its support of the MSI App Player, the Claw will also support Android games.

Here are the full specs for the MSI Claw:

Processor: Up to Intel Core Ultra 7

Operating System: Windows 11 Home, Windows 11 Pro

Leaks indicate that the MSI Claw will feature 32GB of RAM, and that it will buck the trend of handheld gaming PCs using AMD's chips.

While MSI has been teasing its foray into the handheld gaming PC market, with more details to be officially unveiled during CES 2024, details about the system have seemingly been leaked online. According to a post on social media platform X, the system will reportedly be dubbed the MSI Claw.

In terms of physical design, the MSI Claw doesn’t seem to differ too much from other handheld gaming PCs in the market. It features a massive display in the center, flanked by buttons and analogue sticks on both sides.

Other leaks have provided some more details about the system’s hardware. According to leaked benchmark results, the MSI Claw reportedly runs on an Intel Meteor Lake chip. The benchmark, uploaded to Geekbench back in December, indicates that the Claw will run on Windows 11, and will feature a 16-core CPU clocked at 3.80GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.78GHz. Topping things off is the fact that the Claw will reportedly feature 32GB of RAM.

Unfortunately, no other details, such as internal storage, or even display resolution and screen size, are currently available.

Interestingly, MSI’s offering is setting itself apart from its competitors, including the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go by making use of an Intel chip rather than one made by AMD.

MSI seemingly wants to enter the competitive handheld gaming PC market against the Steam Deck, teasing its own take on the form factor for CES 2024.

With the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 right around the corner, MSI has started teasing its own take on a handheld gaming PC in the vein of Valve’s Steam Deck. The company released a teaser video on Instagram that gives us a brief glimpse at what could be the next major handheld gaming PC to hit the market.

While no real details have been revealed through the video—the company hasn’t even confirmed its name yet—what appears to be two analogue sticks on either side of the device, as well as some of its cooling vents are visible. The video wraps things up by showing the MSI logo on the device, and teasing that more details will be revealed at CES 2024.

MSI is the third major company that traditionally sells PC gaming hardware to take on the handheld gaming PC market, following Asus with its ROG Ally, and more recently, Lenovo with the Legion Go. There have also been offerings from smaller hardware makers, including a variety of releases from Ayaneo.

Valve itself recently released a refresh of the Steam Deck, featuring a few minor improvements and an upgraded OLED display.

At an astonishing .85 inches, the world’s thinnest 17 Inch gaming laptop, the GS70, has been released onto the market by Taiwanese tech company MSI. The GS70 also holds the title for the lightest 17 Inch gaming laptop on the market today.

Let’s take a look at some of the specs:

The GS70 contains a fourth generation Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M video card, and the option of either a 1 Terabyte hard drive or 750 GBs.

The 1 TB version sells for a whopping $1999.99, with the 750 GB model going for the slightly less expensive price of $1799.99. Both versions include 16 GB of DDR3L memory, three audio jacks, four USB 3.0 ports, support for up to three external displays via HDMI and mDP ports, and a 720p HD camers.

The total weight of the GS70 comes in a 5.73 pounds, making it a close second for the lightest gaming laptop on the entire market – a title that goes to the Razor Blade Pro. However, it’s worth noting that the Razor’s 17 inch laptop is more expensive than the GS70’s pricier model, with the 750 GB having equal cost to the 17 inch razor.
