EA's MMA title is the top selling game in the UK.

Ubisoft’s commercially successfully yet horribly developed Watch Dogs had its UK run ended by the debut of EA Sports UFC, which released for the PS4 and Xbox One. This is according to the latest UKIE game charts courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track.

Watch Dogs is still doing fairly well at the number 2 position while Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall is currently in third place. Wolfenstein: The New Order is at fourth place while FIFA 14 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, despite the on-going World Cup, are only in fifth and sixth place respectively.

Mario Kart 8 is still going well at seventh place while Call of Duty: Ghosts is at eight. Minecraft: PS3 Edition and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition occupied the remaining two spots in the top ten.

There aren’t any major releases this week aside from Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. How will EA Sports UFC fare in the exchange? We’ll find out later this week.

Meanwhile, WildStar and Tomodachi Life debut.

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs broke sales records for the company on release, selling millions of copies within the first few days and claiming the top sales spot in the UK. Now, however, UKIE game charts (courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track) have reported that though Watch Dogs is still the top selling game across all platforms, sales have dropped significantly from release.

PS4 and Xbox One sales dropped by 84 percent while PS3 and Xbox 360 dropped by 68 percent for a total sales drop of 81 percent. Keep in mind that there’s still a significantly large install base on the PS3 and Xbox 360 so it’s likely Watch Dogs stays on top for a few more weeks.

Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 stayed at second place while Murdered: Soul Suspect inexplicably debuted at third place despite horrible reviews. Other debuts included WildStar at 14th place, most likely due to the lack of enthusiasm for paid subscriber MMOs these days, and Tomodachi Life for the 3DS at 15th place.

Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 boosts Wii U sales by an unholy amount.

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs finally released worldwide last week amidst a major delay and controversies and promptly debuted in the UK as the number one selling game across all platforms. This was according to the latest UKIE charts courtesy of Gfk Chart-Track.

It also managed to break the record for sales of a new IP, previously set by LA Noire, by 58 percent with the PS4 version selling the most. Interestingly, about 53 percent of PS4 hardware sold in the past week included Watch Dogs as part of the bundle.

Mario Kart 8 debuted also but in second place and managed to boost Wii U sales by 666 percent (82 percent of those sales including bundles for the game). Wolfenstein: The New Order fell to third place in the meantime but maintains a fairly strong place considering the launch of two big AAA titles.

The remainder of the top ten is fairly typical: FIFA 14 was in fourth place, followed by Minecraft: PS3 Edition, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Titanfall, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, Call of Duty: Ghosts and The LEGO Movie Videogame.

The Xbox 360 port of Respawn's first person shooter helps it maintain the top spot.

According to the latest sales reports from the NPD Group for April 2014, Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall was once again the top-selling game among all formats in the United States. This is in part due to the Xbox 360 port, developed by Bluepoint Games, which released early in April and continuing sales of the Xbox One and PC versions. Keep in mind that sales numbers don’t count games included in hardware bundles.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts was in at second place while NBA 2K14 occupied third place, followed by Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and LEGO The Hobbit. In fact, the top ten saw a predominantly large number of LEGO titles, with The LEGO Movie Videogame and Lego Marvel Super Heroes following LEGO The Hobbit.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag filled the remaining spots in the top ten. What are your thoughts on the NPD Group’s top ten for April? Let us know in the comments.

Project Grave and Arena of Fate are apparently on the developer's agenda.

Among rumours that Microsoft would announce Ryse: Son of Rome 2 for the Xbox One at this year’s E3, Crytek has apparently revealed that it will be showcasing two new games according to Italian site GamesVillage.it (which has since taken down the story).

The first game is Project Grave, which hasn’t been confirmed as exclusive or not to the Xbox One, and the second is Arena of Fate, a free to play title for the PC developed by Crytek Black Sea using CryEngine. While not much is known about Project Grave, it seems Arena of Fate will focus on multiplayer action.

Take this all with a grain of salt, of course, since Crytek has yet to make any official, wide-spread announcement of the same. It’s a given that the developer will be up to something though. Stay tuned for more information as E3 2014 approaches nearer. Would you prefer the above two projects or a sequel to Ryse? Let us know in the comments.

Apparently, a game based on the Vietnam War wouldn't have been easy to market.

Sledgehammer Games is currently developing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which serves to introduce a futuristic setting along with new mechanics. It was originally working on a third person Call of Duty title but this was cancelled for a multitude of reasons – including the fact that it would’ve been based on a war ridden with controversy.

In conversation with Game Informer, Sledgehammer head Glen Schofield talked about various aspects of the game and said that, “If they ever asked us to a make a third-person Call of Duty game I’d go back to what we were doing.

However, the game’s Vietnam theme wouldn’t have worked out very well. “We found out as we were researching it as well, all around the world it’s actually known as America’s war. Not Vietnam’s. We were the only ones that called it the Vietnam War. It’s kind of unpopular. And we didn’t really understand the marketing aspect of that.”

From there, Sledgehammer went to work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward and then began work on Advanced Warfare shortly after. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare releases on November 4th for PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! may be on its way but Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 is still making money. In its recent financial report for the fourth quarter and entire fiscal year, Take Two Interactive revealed that Borderlands 2 had shipped 9 million units since its release in September 2012. While this doesn’t reflect units sold, it’s still the best-selling 2K Games title in history.

Take Two already noted that Grand Theft Auto 5 shipped 33 million units since its release in September 2013, which is up by 500,000 units since the last report 3 months ago. NBA 2K14 managed to ship 6.5 million units since release while Civilization 5 shipped 5 million units.

Currently, Rockstar Games is rumoured to be releasing Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, along with possibly bringing Red Dead Redemption to PC. There’s no confirmation on either rumour aside from some retail listings here and there. We’re looking forward to E3 for more information so stay tuned.

After it debuted two weeks prior to become the number one selling game across all platforms, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fell to third place in this past week’s UKIE game charts. Meanwhile, Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall is back at number one, moving up from second place according to Gfk Chart-Track.

FIFA 14 also moved up one slot to third place while Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition came in at fourth. 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is in fifth place, followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, The LEGO Movie Videogame, Battlefield 4, LEGO The Hobbit and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. On a side-note, the fact that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games could have three LEGO titles in the top ten for this long? That shows success right there.

Spiders’ Bound by Flame also debuted this past Friday, coming in at 12th place in the UKIE game charts. The game has received mixed to negative reviews since its release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

The publisher reports slightly lower sales over the previous year.

Metal Gear Solid and PES 2014 publisher Konami recently reported that its profits for the full financial year (ending on March 31st 2014) had been halved. Profits went from ¥13.2 billion ($129 million) to ¥6.2 billion ($60 million). Overall sales for the financial year were at ¥217.6 billion ($2.1 billion) which is only slightly less than the previous year’s sales of ¥226 billion yen ($2.2 billion).

Konami also confirmed that we’d be seeing more Metal Gear at E3, which means we’ll finally be seeing some new footage for Metal Gear Sold 5: The Phantom Pain. As for the prologue Ground Zeroes, it apparently managed “solid” sales according to Konami alongside Professional Baseball Spirits 2014.

It will be interesting to see the overall profits and sales for this quarter given the somewhat average reaction to Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, which was criticized for its overall story length and content. Stay tuned for more details on what the company has in store for E3.

Titanfall drops down to second place while the remaining top ten stays static.

It may have been dogged with controversy regarding the Xbox One version’s release – especially when the latter mysteriously went live digitally with no prior announcement – but Activision’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has managed very strong sales in its opening week in the UK. It debuted on top of UKIE’s game charts across all platforms, according to Gfk Chart-Track.

Titanfall dropped down to second place followed by FIFA 14, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. The only other new addition this week is Ubisoft Montreal’s Child of Light. This is especially interesting since the game was more widely distributed digitally. That it’s retail sales were strong enough to warrant a place in the UKIE top ten is something.

How long before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stays on top considering the awful reviews it’s received thus far? We’ll give it a week tops. Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks.
