Miitomo players are in fora treat.

Nintendo have released an update for their freshly launched My Nintendo rewards program. While this update doesn’t change the lineup of games on offer for discounted (or free) prices yet, it does add some new rewards for players of Nintendo’s first smartphone app, Miitomo, that will be doubtless appreciated.

Assuming you have enough Platinum Points to spend (you get these from playing Miitomo, and eventually, just from interacting with the Nintendo ecosystem), you should be able to get for yourself a brand new bee suit, viking helmet, or an amazing new Super Famicom hoodie. Both of these only cost 200 Platinum Points, and if you’re a regular Miitomo player, it’s hard to think of something better to spend those points on.

Miitomo is Nintendo’s first smartphone app, a social game that is available now on iOS and Android smartphones. It is the first of five smartphone games planned to release by this time next year. My Nintendo is Nintendo’s broader umbrella for online services that is meant to segue into their online strategy with the upcoming Nintendo NX.

Stay tuned for more coverage and information.

Nintendo's new online service is set to launch in March. Third time's the charm?

Nintendo’s My Nintendo program for the Nintendo Network – which simultaneously acts as a replacement for Club Nintendo and the Digital Deluxe Pro programs, while also giving Nintendo a program analogous to PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold – will be launching this March, Nintendo has confirmed.

Nintendo also confirmed multiple details on the new system- your previous Nintendo Network accounts transfer over to the new program automatically, for example. My Nintendo will be used with all Nintendo services, including Nintendo eShop, Miiverse, Nintendo’s smartphone games, as well as on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. My Nintendo will have two tiers: Gold and Platinum. Gold will function similarly to Club Nintendo, where you earn points that you can trade in against games and software to earn discounts (for instance, having 100 Gold coins may get your $10 off on Xenoblade Chronicles X), while Platinum coins are given out for engaging with Nintendo’s services.

Nintendo confirmed that the My Nintendo service will also eventually include universal friends management, social features, and cloud functionality, so it looks like Nintendo are going all in on this. It is set to launch in 39 different countries in March. It will be available on the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PCs, smartphones, and any future systems Nintendo launches, such as the NX.

Yesterday, Nintendo finally launched their My Nintendo and Nintendo Accounts services– their long promised unified account services that would be hardware agnostic across all of their devices, as well as smartphones and PCs, and offer services such as media sharing, achievements, Cross Buy, Friends Lists, and unified purchase histories- the kind of stuff that should be […]

Yesterday, Nintendo finally launched their My Nintendo and Nintendo Accounts services– their long promised unified account services that would be hardware agnostic across all of their devices, as well as smartphones and PCs, and offer services such as media sharing, achievements, Cross Buy, Friends Lists, and unified purchase histories- the kind of stuff that should be standard, but Nintendo is only getting around to now.

The service launched only in Japan, and only partially- there was just an open registration portal, and we still don’t know when Nintendo’s devices themselves will be getting the services yet. What we also didn’t know was when the rest of the world could expect to get their hands on My Nintendo- until DualShockers very kindly reached out to Nintendo Australia for a comment, who confirmed that the service will launch in Australia and New Zealand in March.

“In Japan, Nintendo has launched its new Nintendo Account system. This preliminary launch represents a limited selection of the full functionality that Nintendo will eventually offer. This preliminary Nintendo Account launch is focused on bringing off-device purchase functionality to the Japanese market.

“This preliminary launch is limited to Japan. Nintendo Account and the new My Nintendo membership service will launch in Australia and New Zealand in March 2016.”

It sounds like the launch in Japan right now is highly limited- with the full launch coming much later. We could generally use the Australian launch as a good barometer to judge when the rest of the world might be getting these services too, but recent history has shown Australia often getting things far earlier than any other western territory- for instance, Australia and New Zealand got the New Nintendo 3DS models last year, shortly after the Japanese launches, while the west had to wait till February.

We’ll keep you posted.
