Whether duelling enemies up-close as a samurai or relying on stealth as a ninja, these titles will fuel your desired fantasy.

If there’s one thing that’s been proven over many decades of gaming, it’s that you can never have enough ninja and samurai games. The cool factor is undeniable, from slicing through hordes of enemies on your lonesome with a katana, engaging in duels to the death, or infiltrating fortresses and assassinating targets with cunning and stealth. Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be the ninja/samurai fantasy that many engage with this November, but plenty of other options exist in the here and now. Check out 14 of our choices here.

Ghostrunner 2

Don’t let the fast-paced motorcycle sections, larger levels or cyberspace fool you – Ghostrunner 2’s Jack is still very much the cyber-ninja bad-ass as in the previous game. Deflecting attacks, slicing through foes, parkouring through neon-lit environments, and one-hit kills are still part of the gameplay loop. The new abilities and rogue-like mode further add to the experience, even if there’s a lot of trial and error involved to progress forward.

Pour one out for all the Xbox One controllers lost to these 15 games.

There’s so much choice out there for a gamer these days, it’s hard to know where to go for the best experiences for what you like in particular. Some of us love those grand stories and movie productions that other companies get, but there’s those enthusiasts among us who like a game to bend us, and even break us from time to time, not to mention a few controllers. If you’re that type of gamer, let us tell you why Xbox One is your One place to play. Did we forget any great ones? Let us know in the comments.

N++

Xbox One might not be anyone’s first thought when they want a hardcore platform game, but there’s a surprising amount to be found. N++ is Metanet’s follow up to XBLA darling N+ and though it originally launched as a PS4 and PC title, the return to the Xbox Platform has the minimalistic ninja runner as gloriously, and infuriatingly hard, as it ever was.

N++, not a PS+ game.

The PlayStation 4 exclusive indie platformer game, N++, will be launching later this month on July 28, Sony announced today. The game is set in the distant future, and sees players play the role of a ninja, who must make his way through deadly, hand crafted levels – all 2,360 of them – and evade the lethal traps and homicidal robots that populate all of them.

If over 2,000 actual designed levels wasn’t enough to keep you returning, the game will also have leaderboards and a level editor, where you can create and share your own maps with the world.

N++ will be available on the PS Store July 28 for $19.99, and if you are a PS Plus user, you can grab it for $15.99 if you pre-order. Personally, if ever there was a game that should be pre-ordered, this is it- it looks great, and it has a staggering amount of content.

Stay tuned for more coverage, and check out the trailer below.

Sony blew the roof of Gamescom 2013 with its indie announcements.

First off, it has announced that Thomas Was Alone creator Mike Bethell’s Volume will be debuting on the PS4 and PS Vita exclusively next year. The game is a mix of Minecraft and Metal Gear in which the player must steal and effectively remix his surroundings.

It has also announced that Metanet Software’s N++ will release exclusively for the PS4 this year, and bring new multiplayer modes along with thousands of levels created from scratch. The game is dubbed the final and definitive installment of the N series.

Cellar Door Games’ highly addictive and awesomely awesome Rogue Legacy, which released for PC a month ago, will also be debuting next year on the PS4 and PS Vita. Hotline Miami 2 will also be making its way to the console and handheld next year, but Dennaton Games’ next game, Wasteland Kings will also be exclusive to the PS4 and Vita.

Vlambeer, which created Super Crate Box & Ridiculous Fishing, has also announced that it will be releasing Guns of Icarus Online exclusively for PS4. Stay tuned for more details.
