The "strategic alliance" will play a part in mobile games based on upcoming films.

Reliance Games has announced that it will be partnering with Behaviour Studios, 300-strong development studio based in Montreal that is best known for action shooter WET and the bizarre Naughty Bear to “co-publish mobile games based on upcoming, high-profile feature films”.

Reliance Entertainment Digital EVP of global business Amit Khanduja stated that, “Today’s announcement with Behaviour Interactive is another solid step in building great IP-based games. By partnering with Behaviour, Reliance augments its ability to design and to develop games in a timely manner and at a quality bar commensurate with the films the games are based on.”

Reliance reports that two games to this effect are currently in development. Hopefully, they won’t be based off of Bollywood “blockbusters”.

Reliance Games, by the by, also partly owns Codemasters, developer of the Race Driver GRID series. It seems everyone wants a piece of the mobile gaming pie, and this new deal seems like the best way to go about it for the Indian conglomerate.

If you remember the original Naughty Bear, you already know that the game was rather… lacklustre but its developer, Artificial Mind and Movement are attempting to bring the blood thirsty bear back with a bang as he causes all sorts of panic in a brand new, sunny setting.

Instead of spending all your time around one measly town, you’ll be exploring every inch of Paradise Island in Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise; each of the bears has its own little area in which you’ll brutally defluffify him. Unfortunately, you won’t be doing this in free roam; you’ll have to complete each objective individually before heading back to the campaign screen to pick your next target.

In total there are 36 weird and wonderful teddy bears which you’ll need to exterminate if you want to complete the game. If you’re more of a completionist however, Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise offers a good chunk of replayability, giving the player the choice to earn scores on each level and depending on the score you receive, earning yourself either a bronze, silver or gold trophy. As well as quickly being able to see your score compared to your friends.

Paradise Island is a truly interesting place, containing everything your heart could ever desire (literally). You’ll visit run of the mill areas such as hotel lobbies to mind boggling, mad scientist lairs which are creating portals to another dimension. Be sure to check how you’re supposed to kill your target though, as if you don’t do it in the exact way described, you’ll end up pissing away hours, repeating the same mission until its eventually performed correctly.

I know, killing a bear in a certain way can’t be that difficult, right? Wrong. When you start any new mission, you’re giving a basic riddle as to what you need to do to properly *kill* the target, as just beating him to death with your fists just isn’t good enough, apparently. It can be anything from choking him to death with your bare, naked hands to drowning an evil teddy bear oil tycoon on his owl fuel. I know you’re trying to make it seem funny with the riddles but they just become frustrating; there’s nothing wrong with just saying what needs to be done.

A really neat new feature in Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise is the ability to spend the coins which you earn in game (where before, they only helped with earning a better level rating). The coins will let you buy all sorts of new goodies for Naughty Bear which will affect how effective he is in different situations, letting you tailor your armour and weapons to how you play. If you want to become a tank, buy lots of heavy armour but you won’t have the stamina to run far but you can also go the complete opposite direction and becomes a deadly assassin but you’ll probably die in just a few blows.

Unfortunately, the combat is still nothing to shout from the rooftops about; it’s still the same button bashing-fest that its predecessor was except now there’s the ability to perform heavy hits, bear-kicks and super-screams to mix it up a lil’ bit. Thankfully, it doesn’t feel as sloppy as its little brother and I think a lot of that is to do with the huge amount of weapons which you’re now able to play around with (and there are bloody hundreds of them!).

The problem is that the lack of combos does get boring after a while, even attempting to break it up and trying to get bears to kill themselves wears thin, especially when it makes no bloody sense how you’re supposed to do it. Then when you eventually discover how to unlock new items, you’ll spent 90% of your time repeating the same tactic of grabbing unsuspecting bears and dragging them into bushes to steal their disguise, which again, does absolutely bugger all; even killing them on random objects in the environment gets tedious (yet still entertaining).

Pretty much every weapon you can imagine can be utilised in some sinister way in Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise; everything from weird feathers to the alien ‘Sword of Peace’ can be yours to slaughter the inhabitants of Paradise Island. Each of which have a truly insane ‘kill move’ (execution), watching a bear head get beaten into the ground has never been so entertaining to watch.

Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise is bloody fantastic; yeah, its predecessor was crappy but every series is welcome to a second attempt, especially when it turns out like this. Naughty Bear was meant to be an Xbox Live Arcade title from the start and the amount of content you’re receiving in this package is well worth the 1,200 Microsoft point price tag. It may still have a few annoying problems but this is a major step in the right direction.

Oh and thanks for keeping the original narrator; that chap never fails to make me laugh.

It’s only last minute because all those mean old bears didn’t invite Naughty to come along — again — so he better make room for all of his new toys if he’s going to pay them back for being so nasty.

With so many bears on the lookout for Naughty he’s going to have to work out just how to get to his target — does he hide in the bushes and mount a sneak attack? Drag bears into the woods to steal their costumes so he can blend in with the crowd? Maybe even wear their brother’s face to get up close and personal with his targets?

Whichever route he takes it’s going to be a long day as Naughty Bear tracks down the 36 bears on the Naughty List across 11 different areas of Paradise Island. Even with his brand new combat skills, special kills and ultra-kills galore, it’s not going to be all plain sailing this time around with Paradise police, the disco defence force and even an entire group of Super Heroes running around. Wonder how the cops would react if a Super Hero started taking a swing at them?

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Meet naughty bear, a bear who unsurprisingly terrorises his fellow teddies and commits acts of varying naughtiness. In Naughty Bear you get to inhabit said teddy and commit a whole host of atrocities in order to rack up as high a score as possible. The setting generally revolves around a child-like land of teddies and toys and the tension between this and the vile acts that reward the highest scores produces the majority of the games quirky style and humour. If you’ve ever seen Happy Tree Friends or Wonder Showzen you’ll know the kind of dark comedy that is on offer. Whilst it takes a nod from various TV shows and internet shorts, the style of Naughty Bear is unique to the gaming scene, but sadly it is a case of style over substance.

The game revolves around naughty bear needing to take revenge on his peers for some reason and needing to commit horrible atrocities in order to do this. Even though there is nothing in the plot whatsoever the basic game mechanic can be quite fun in short bursts. It’s a high score ’em up where points are awarded for anti-social behaviours such as murder, sabotage and arson among many others. It can be a good laugh and satisfies the darker sides of the human psyche in a way only games like this can, and it can become quite addictive trying to keep beating your own high scores. After a while though the repetition starts to set in. There just aren’t enough different ways to gain naughty points, and were it not for some entertaining contextual take-downs, Naughty Bear would very quickly descend into a button mashing kill them all affair. As if it wasn’t bad enough, there’s only one level! That’s right, just one. You can try re-skinning it and changing the odd weapon placement, but I still noticed. The game attempts to extend replay value by giving you extra challenges such as complete the level without killing anyone, or not getting hit etc. Nice try, but a few extra challenges aren’t enough to make up for the sheer lack of content on display here.

As fun as this looks it gets very old after the second or third time

A few extra steps are taking to add to the variety and challenge, but these do little to help. Alternative costumes can be unlocked that alter Naughty’s stats, but they really don’t change the experience in any meaningful way. A few multiplayer modes with a fairly basic ranking system are offered, but I couldn’t even try these out because no one is online at all. For a fairly new game to have lost all its online community is probably testament to how lacklustre the multiplayer experience was. Did I mention the glitches yet? This is the best part of it all. I spent a lot of time on some of the levels trying to get that elusive gold trophy and it froze on me three times in a row on the same spot. This is most likely the least stable game I’ve played ever. It’s unacceptable. That said, I was recently offered an update through Xbox live and since then the problem seems to have died down significantly, but note that without this patch the game is completely unplayable. Naughty Bear is a fun enough engine with some solid controls, but the sheer lack of ideas, content and the annoying bugs and glitches prevent the formula from being a real winner.

In terms of style I can be a bit more positive about the whole thing. Well, mostly. The graphical style is enjoyable with a cartoon aesthetic that suits the game’s sense of humour very well. Technically speaking though it all seems like a bit of a disaster. The textures are bland, (the fact that there’s only one level doesn’t add much variety either) there are some odd transparencies kicking about and the fur just looks a little odd. Trust me you’ll notice this last one, as you generally see a lot of fur in a game about bears. On the plus side the animations are comparatively more pleasant. The visuals are nowhere near the standard we’ve come to expect from this gaming generation but the style makes up for the technical mediocrity.

You do get used to them, but the visuals are just so… meh

The sound is on a similar plane as the visuals in Naughty Bear. The soundtrack is generally appropriate throughout, matching the game’s bizarre comedy, but there are one or two tracks and sound bites that sound amateurish and out of place. Likewise the vocal dubs are general gibberish the bears speak or the kid’s show style narrator, both of which are well voiced. The problem comes with Naughty’s boo which is heard so often that the irritating nature of it is made even more apparent. And don’t even get me started on the sound effects. They just feel weak, and might as well not be there. If you’re aiming to push a pair of speakers to their limits, Naughty Bear is not the game to do it with.

When discussing lifespan in games, people often separate the wheat from chaff by thinking whether or not the game is worth buying or just renting. The lasting appeal of Naughty Bear is put into perspective when I think to myself that even renting this game isn’t worth it for the amount of enjoyment you’ll have. For a single level repeated with mediocre challenges over it, and a broken multiplayer setup, a much lower price tag would be required to make this game worth while. If that’s not bad enough the achievements/trophies are all contextual and generally luck based. Picking boils off your arm would be more fun then going through the entire achievements list in Naughty Bear.

You can dress it up as a disco but it’s still the same damn level again…

Naughty Bear feels like the first title from a rookie studio. The basic idea and engine is nice enough and is able to engage the score hunter within, but the corners that have been cut make it obvious that not much effort or thought was put into the game. The lack of levels, game modes and content in general prevent Naughty Bear from entertaining even the simplest of minds for more than about ten minutes. Naughty Bear is hardly even worth the cost of the disc it’s printed on. Do not be tempted to pick this one up. It is a road that can only lead to disappointment.

If there is one game coming out this month that isn’t getting enough media attention, its Naughty Bear. Yes, it may have a title that sounds more like a dirty movie than a video game, but it also has the potential to be a cult classic.

The story of the game is that there is a giant Teddy Bear birthday party…but Naughty Bear wasn’t invited. Naughty Bear decides the right thing to do is to bring Daddles a present anyways, but on his way to deliver it he gets laughed at by the other bears. Naughty then realizes what he should do in light of this.

Go on a Homicidal Rampage, terrorize the other bears, and brutally murder them.

Teach Those Bears a Lesson

The game itself plays like a cross between an adventure and stealth game. The main objective is to complete level objectives, get revenge on the other bears, and collect Naughty Points. Your Naughty Points are what is used to score your efforts, and can be achieved in many different ways.

You get Naughty Points by scaring, and killing the other bears, but outright murder isn’t the best option if you are going for lots of points. The key to the game is the ability to scare the stuffing out of one of the bears, and let him live to tell the others his tale. The more scared you can get the bears, the higher your multiplayer will get, and the more creative you are with how you deal with them, the more points you can get. But you have to be careful, if you let a scared bear go, he could call the cops-or the army. You have to find the balance of where you can still keep Naughty safe while scaring.

You have many different weapons, traps, and environmental hazards you can use to your advantage against the other bears to help you score points. There are conventional weapons like machetes, cricket bats, guns and hammers, but you can also use things like fridges, cake mixers, electrical boxes and BBQ’s. There are also unlockable costumes and hats that will make the bears in the world act differently towards you. Naughty Bear claims to have incredible replay value because of how many different ways you can go through each level.

Naughty Bear has Weapons Galore

The lasting appeal here isn’t just the core game mechanic, its the presentation. Sure there are plenty of games out like Gears of War that are full of gore, but Naughty Bear takes the comical approach. Instead of buckets of blood being sprayed around, the bears explode into clouds of stuffing. Instead of manly grunts and screams, its high pitched wails and shrieks. It’s the overall feel of taking something innocent and twisting it into a horror movie, and it’s hilarious.

But wait there is more! Naughty Bear actually has a multiplayer mode. So after you are done murdering helpless AI Teddy’s, you can hop online and compete against other real people. The modes announced so far are an Oddball like Cake Walk mode, where one bear has to hold onto a cake for as long as possible while avoiding enemy bears. A Scavenge like Jelly mode, where 3 bears have to run into the woods and collect plates of Jelly while a player controlling Naughty Bear lurks in the shadows. There is also Assault, a 2v2 game type where one team is defending a gold statue while the other is trying to destroy it, and Golden Uzi, a game type like Juggernaut where one bear has a golden uzi and the others try to kill him and take that Uzi.

Naughty Bear is the type of game you don’t want to miss. It is going to go under a lot of gamers radars, but the ones who do find it are going to have a rare gem. Naughty Bear comes to the Xbox360 and Playstation 3 June 29th.

And for horror fans, don’t miss Amazon and Gamestop’s pre-order bonuses, a Freddy Krueger Costume from Amazon and a Jason Vorhees Costume from Gamestop.

505 Games U.S. and developer Artificial Mind and Movement (A2M) today unveiled Naughty Bear, a cheeky action video game featuring a unique blend of comic mischief and astonishingly bad behaviour. Set to release in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms, players will take on the role of Naughty Bear, a bear driven to seek vengeance after the other bears don’t invite him to the big birthday party. Scorned for the last time, Naughty Bear becomes hell bent on manipulating and terrorizing the blissful bears inhabiting the Island of Perfection.

“Players tired of the same old shoot-‘em-up, recycled gameplay are going to get what’s coming to them in Naughty Bear,” said Adam Kline, president, 505 Games U.S. “The all-new scare-based points system introduces a whole new element of fun in Naughty Bear as players win the most rewards for being deviant and maniacal.”

As Naughty Bear, players will wreak havoc on every stuffing-filled foe that crosses their path. Featuring an array of weapons, objects and scare tactics, gamers strive to earn Naughty Points as they inflict physical and psychological harm on Naughty Bear’s enemies. This all-new scare-based points system means players will win the most rewards for being deviant and maniacal. The variety allows for a completely new experience every time players pick up a controller and the ill-fated bears become more difficult to harass and terrorize as the game progresses. Naughty Bear features more than 30 levels to unlock, with unique characteristics and weaponry encountered at every stage. Gamers can search the game world and collect all the hidden party items locked away by the other bears.

“Naughty Bear is sure to become a favorite guilty indulgence as players take on the classic role of a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” said David Osborne, creative director at Artificial Mind and Movement.

Players will be able to cause chaos and calamity in Naughty Bear for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms later this year.
