Guerrilla talks about using guns for Horizon's combat.

With Guerrilla Games so well-versed in shooting mechanics, thanks to its work on Killzone, it is interesting to see how it handled combat in Horizon: Zero Dawn. What would the latter have been like with guns though?

In a new interview from PlayStation, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End director Neil Druckmann spoke to Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst about Horizon: Zero Dawn. Hulst noted how the studio experimented with guns in the first prototype for the game.

“The very first prototype we did had Killzone M82 guns in it and you were firing your machine gun at these robotic dinosaurs.” It got “weird” pretty quickly so Guerrilla went with the combat we see today.

Another interesting point is how much Druckmann likes the visuals for Horizon: Zero Dawn, stating, “You better believe I’m going to my team and saying, ‘OK, [Zero Dawn] is the bar now. We have to top this.'”

Will that happen with The Last of Us: Part 2, Druckmann’s next project as director? We’ll find out in the near future.

Neil Druckmann brainstorms with Bruce Straley on the potential of Sony's VR headset.

Despite its relative newness and age, Sony’s Project Morpheus has tons of potential for gameplay. We’ve already seen some rather interesting demonstrations featuring games like The Deep and Castle, not to mention the potential for a game like Thief. But what do AAA developers think about Sony’s VR headset?

Naughty Dog director and writer Neil Druckmann, who worked on the critically acclaimed The Last of Us, offered his thoughts about the tech on Twitter. “Spent downtime at the airport brainstorming #ProjectMorpheus ideas with @bruce_straley. Conclusion, you can make the ultimate horror game.”

The prime differences between Morpheus and Oculus Rift are that the former could very well support eye-tracking in the near future – which allows you to control a game using your eyes – along with a PS Move and PS Eye. As for what Naughty Dog has in mind, there’s no doubt we’ll see a horror game as well. Whether it’s from The Last of Us developer or not remains to be seen.

Still working out how to "make it fit into a film."

The Last of Us will be getting a movie adaptation and writer/director Neil Druckmann has confirmed that it will be adapt the story of the video game.

“It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us. As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film…We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface,” said Druckmann to IGN at the recent BAFTA Awards, where The Last of Us won five awards.

It will at least stay faithful to the game, which is always a good thing. Most developers attempt to have their franchise adapted in a way that suits the masses and it’s still not working very well.

Regardless, would you be keen to see Ellie and Joel on the big screen in what is essentially a live-action retelling of the video game? Let us know in the comments.
