Considered as the main rival companies in the fighting game development, both the companies would shake hands to create a variety of crossover games throughout the 90s (this piece by Polygon covers the history pretty well), and even though the crossover fighting games experienced love and fanfare over the years, the same cannot be said for the other projects under the versus series.

Well, it seems both the companies are ready to change that, as SNK recently unveiled that they are bringing back the classic NeoGeo Pocket Color card fighting game SNK VS. Capcom: Card Fighters’ Clash. The game was created in collaboration with Capcom back in 1999 for NeoGeo Pocket Color. The re-release is coming out exclusively for Nintendo Switch and will feature both the SNK card fighter version and the Capcom card fighter version in one single game. Apart from that, the trailer for the game says that, in total, 300 cards can be collected, and a glimpse of the gameplay is shown.

The game is currently available for purchase from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch. Previously, SNK released the NeoGeo Pocket Color fighting game SNK VS Capcom: Match of the Millennium for Steam and Nintendo Switch.

Maybe, we might see another full-fledged crossover fighting game from both the company someday in the future.

Originally released in 1999 and re-released for the Nintendo Switch in February 2021, SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium features 26 fighters from a range of SNK and Capcom franchises. Iori, Kyo, Terry and Mai from The King of Fighters franchise are present along with Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and M. Bison from Street Fighter. You also have the likes of B.B. Hood and Morrigan from Darkstalkers along with Arthur from Ghosts n’ Goblins and Akari from The Last Blade.
