Studio Trigger returns to the City of Dreams with four new characters when season 2 of the acclaimed anime airs on Netflix.

Four years after the first season premiered and reignited interest in Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED and Studio Trigger are running it back. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is confirmed to air this Fall on Netflix, returning to Night City with a new cast of characters. There’s even a new trailer, and based on what little is showcased, this may very well be the City of Dreams “at its most brutal.”

The characters seemingly include a heavily modified assassin-style character who can scale walls and balance on wires; a spiky-haired individual who may be in way over his head; a mature man who’s seemingly on the verge of cyber-psychosis; and a child who’s filming so many different things. To what end?

We’ll have to wait and find out, but between hacked cars crashing into each other, explosions and bloody shootouts, Edgerunners 2 could one-up the original in terms of chaos. The theme “You Can’t Run From Me” by Rico Nasty is also a certified banger.

Thankfully, it seems Netflix isn’t messing with a winning formula, with Edgerunners director Kai Ikarashi and lead designer Kanno Ichio returning. Showrunner and writer Bartosz Sztybor is also back to make the whole world sad once more, and we can’t wait. And in case you want more, a first look is confirmed for Anime Expo 2026 on July 3rd, so stay tuned.

A star-studied cast, and a unique way to play are the highlights of this cooperative effort between the Night School Studio and Netflix.

We enjoyed our time with Riley in Oxenfree 2 back when it was released, a factor that certainly helped it score high in our review. We also praised developer Night School Studio for its ability to craft a unique idea and make an interesting gameplay loop around it in that one.

Well, the studio is at it again, as it’s working with Netflix to bring us Unhinged, a horror experience like no other. It’s about two neighbors, played by Zoe Kravitz and Sadie Sink, trying to navigate a home invasion. Equally popular is Troy Baker, who plays a currently undisclosed role, but we’re willing to bet that he’s the creepy bad guy in this one.

Even more interesting than the cast is that you’re going to be playing this one on your phone, with the game streaming directly to your TV via Netflix. That means you’ll take calls when it rings, and use its flashlight when the need arises in an interactive gameplay loop that’s probably going to raise a few eyebrows when it’s not raising your blood pressure. It’s a short experience, clocking in at a little under one hour, but that might be more than most of us can manage, considering the dark tone and the fact that its narrative is structured like a very intense Netflix episode.

Director Sam Warner told Rolling Stone that the game was influenced by his time with the Nintendo Wii and DS, besides stating that “novel innovative play” was a facet of the experience that he wanted to highlight. Unhinged is out on June 30th for all Netflix subscribers.

Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty says, "The game really is about the bonds between teams. It's about brotherhood at its core."

We can’t believe that it’s been thirteen years since we jumped with joy at a film adaptation of Gears of War finally getting a producer.

Well, Netflix’s attempt to bring the franchise to the silver screen might be a tad more successful at, you know, actually making it there, considering that it has a director known for crafting great action films. But Xbox seems quite intent on seeing its plans for the film through this time around.

Although details about it are scarce, other than David Leitch’s attachment to the project, recent statements in an interview with Entertainment Weekly suggest that the film will explore “the origin story of Delta Squad, a ragtag crew of soldiers who wage a desperate war for survival against the Locust, a race of subterranean creatures set on destroying humanity,” signalling a plot that could look at the time between E-Day and the first title in the franchise.

“The game really is about the bonds between teams. It’s about brotherhood at its core,” says Xbox CCO Matt Booty. “When you go visit the studio, their tagline is ‘Never Fight Alone.’ So when you think about that for a dramatic narrative, it’s a pretty good starting point.”

Of course, that could mean Marcus Fenix isn’t going to be a popular one, his rebellious nature a potential roadblock to the kind of brotherhood that the squad aims to build. It could be quite a good look at why we found him incarcerated in the early moments of the first title, despite his obvious talent and righteous nature often coming into play over the course of that story.

Time will tell if that’s the case, but you can be sure that we’re going to be on the edge of our seats, staring at our screens with rapt attention when this one finally comes along.

The creative heads behind the ten-episode anime from Studio Trigger will also delve into some behind-the-scenes details.

After its announcement last year at Anime Expo, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is returning to the convention on July 3rd at 7:30 PM PT for a first look. Director Kai Ikarashi, showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, executive producer Saya Elder, and other guests will be on hand for a behind-the-scenes discussion.

Despite following Studio Trigger’s hit first series, which debuted in September 2022 on Netflix and helped drive interest in Cyberpunk 2077, Edgerunners 2 is a new standalone story. It’s ten episodes long and set in Night City, but while there’s no date for when it will premiere on the streaming service, perhaps it will be revealed at Anime Expo.

Otherwise, very little is known about the story, aside from potentially featuring a new cast. Sztybor teased “a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before,” and while that’s certainly vague, he also gets a kick out of writing sad stories.

“When people are sad, I feel a bit happy,” he said at last year’s convention. Not that Night City has offered much avenue for happy endings, whether it’s in the official lore or the games, but you have to wonder how the team is upping the ante.

Is there any chance it could tie into Project Orion, aka Cyberpunk 2, especially if the sequel is set in a different city? Given that Cyberpunk 2077 features references and even a cameo from an Edgerunners character, it’s certainly not impossible, but we’ll need to wait for more details.

Netflix has revealed more details about the live-action adaptation's cast of actors, which includes Louis McCartney and Sean Harris.

Netflix has announced that it has kicked off the filming for its live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. Filming for the project has started in Rome, and the company has confirmed that the show will take place in the year 64 AD. Its story will be an original one, set in the heart of the Roman Empire. Filming for this is primarily taking place at Cinecittà Studios. The show is set to be the first series part of the partnership between Netflix and Ubisoft for the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

While Netflix has left out the finer details about the story of its Assassin’s Creed show, it has confirmed that its plot will revolve around a “secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will.” The show will seemingly follow a variety of characters through major historical events of the era.

While Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhaan Rizwan and Claes Bang were previously confirmed to star as regular cast members in the show, Netflix has now revealed more details. Noomi Rapace (Lamb, Prometheus), Ramzy Bedia (Of Money and Blood, Haunted Minds), Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible — Fallout, The Stranger), and Corrado Invernizzi (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ford v. Ferrari) will be involved, taking on the role of recurring characters. The streaming giant has also confirmed that the show will feature Sandra Guldberg-Kampp (Foundation, The Rain, Electric Child), Youssef Kerkour (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Mirren Mack (Hedda, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple), and Louis McCartney (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).

Roberto Patino—known for his work on DMZ, Westworld and Sons of Anarchy—and David Wiener—having worked on Halo, Homecoming and The Killing—will work on the project as its creators, showrunners, and executive producers. In a statement, the duo spoke about being fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise since its debut back in 2007.

“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us,” they said in a joint statement. “Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance.”

“But more than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species, when those connections break. We’ve got an amazing team behind us with the folks at Ubisoft and our champions at Netflix, and we’re committed to creating something undeniable for fans all over the planet.”

Patino and Wiener will be joined in their executive producer duties by Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones as part of Ubisoft Film & Television, as well as Matt O’Toole.

Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed any release date for its Assassin’s Creed series.

Ted Sarandos went on to refer to Paramount Skydance's offer as "unusual, irrational, whatever words you want to use in that."

While Netflix was previously poised to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery as part of a deal valued at $82.7 billion, the company has since pulled back in light of a new deal offered by Paramount Skydance. In an interview with Bloomberg, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos was asked about why the company didn’t pursue the acquisition further, to which he responded by saying that “We didn’t need it.” He also referred to the offer made by Paramount Skydance as “unusual, irrational, whatever words you want to use in that.”

“It’ll be fascinating to see the next steps. I have been on the record a lot in the last two weeks talking about what I think the future looks like,” he continued. “I’m confident in our future that we’re not impacted by all that. In fact, maybe it’s to our advantage. But I hope I’m wrong for the sake of the industry.”

Warner Bros. Discovery presented “an incredibly unique opportunity” for Netflix, according to Sarandos. “We definitely wanted this asset. We didn’t need it.” As for the future, the company doesn’t seem to have any other acquisitions planned. Rather, the $2.8 billion it got from Paramount Skydance as part of the breakup fee will be reinvested in Netflix. “We are builders, not buyers,” he said. “All that is still true.”

Sarandos’ statement echoes the one he made alongside co-CEO Greg Peters when Netflix announced that it was pulling out of the bidding war for Warner Bros. Discovery. In a statement, they described the company as a “nice to have” if the price were right, and not a “must have at any price.”

“The transaction we negotiated would have created shareholder value with a clear path to regulatory approval. However, we’ve always been disciplined, and at the price required to match Paramount Skydance’s latest offer, the deal is no longer financially attractive, so we are declining to match the Paramount Skydance bid.”

As for Paramount Skydance, its deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery is valued at around $111 billion, with WBD shares valued at around $31 each in cash. As part of this deal, Paramount will own the entirety of Warner Bros. Discovery, including its film properties and studios, its linear cable networks, and even studios under the Warner Bros. Games umbrella.

Back when Netflix was still part of the deal, the company had not mentioned Warner Bros. Games in its announcements. Peters had noted that, while he was impressed with the games released by the division, it was “relatively minor” in the grand scheme of things. Despite this, however, he had noted excitement at getting to work with some of the properties built by WB Games, citing Hogwarts Legacy as “a great example”. He went on to note that, “They’ve got great studios and great folks working there. So we believe that there’s definitely an opportunity there. But just to be clear, we haven’t built that into our deal model.”

In the meantime, Paramount Skydance hasn’t yet made any statements about its plans with Warner Bros. Games. However, considering the amount of debt taken on by the company for this acquisition (around $78 billion), layoffs across Warner Bros. Discovery may occur over time.

Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters called the acquisition a "nice to have" and not a "must have at any price" kind of deal.

Netflix has announced that it is pulling back from its plans to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. In a press release, the company has confirmed that it will not be raising its offer to match what Paramount Skydance is offering, referring to it as being a “Superior Proposal” when compared to the existing deal Warner Bros. Discovery had signed with Netflix. The reason, according to Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters, is that the deal is no longer “financially attractive” if the company is forced to match Paramount’s offer.

“The transaction we negotiated would have created shareholder value with a clear path to regulatory approval,” said the CEOs in a statement. “However, we’ve always been disciplined, and at the price required to match Paramount Skydance’s latest offer, the deal is no longer financially attractive, so we are declining to match the Paramount Skydance bid.”

Despite its pull back from the deal, Netflix went on to praise Warner Bros. Discovery’s leadership—namely David Zaslav, Gunnar Wiedenfels, Bruce Campbell, Brad Singer, and the company’s board for its “fair and rigorous process”. The streaming giant went on to note that the acquisition was considered a “nice to have” if the price were right, and not a “‘must have’ at any price”.

Moving forward, Netflix has confirmed plans to invest around $20 billion in films and shows to expand its streaming offerings. It will also resume its share repurchase program.

The original deal that Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery had agreed upon for the acquisition was valued at around $82.7 billion, with equity valued at $72 billion being part of the process. Rather than acquiring the entirety of Warner Bros. Discovery, however, Netflix was prioritizing its film and television studios, along with the HBO Max and HBO IPs.

Interestingly, the deal had made no mention of the various game studios part of Warner Bros. Discovery. Peters had said back in December that the gaming companies weren’t mentioned due to them being a “relatively minor” part of the deal in the grand scheme of things. Despite this, however, he also noted excitement to work with WB Games, saying that there is “definitely an opportunity there.”

“And maybe worth going back again to sort of how we thought about the deal and building our valuation model, while they definitely have been doing some great work in the game space, we actually didn’t attribute any value to that from the get-go because they’re relatively minor compared to the grand scheme of things,” said Peters. “Now we are super excited because some of those properties that they’ve built, Hogwarts Legacy is a great example of that, have been done quite well, and we think that we can incorporate that into what we’re offering. They’ve got great studios and great folks working there. So we believe that there’s definitely an opportunity there. But just to be clear, we haven’t built that into our deal model.”

For its part, Paramount Skydance has agreed to cover the $2.8 billion breakup fee to get Warner Bros. Discovery out of its deal with Netflix. The overall deal proposed by the company is valued at a around $111 billion, with WBD shares being valued at around $31 each in cash. The deal involves the entirety of the company, while Netflix had no plans to buy its linear cable networks.

Netflix co-CEO Gregory Peters noted that, while it might be a minor part of the deal, WB Games represents an opportunity for the future.

While Netflix had announced earlier this month that it had agreed to acquire Warner Bros. in a deal valued at $82.7 billion, the streaming giant hadn’t really mentioned anything about the company’s gaming division. As caught by WCCFTech, Netflix’s co-CEO, president and director Gregory Peters spoke about Warner Bros. Games at the UBS Global Technology Conference this week, where he said it wasn’t mentioned because it is a “relatively minor” part of the deal.

While WB Games has done some impressive things, going as far as shouting out Hogwarts Legacy, he believes they are still “relatively minor” in the grand scheme of things. As a result, Netflix didn’t attribute any value to the gaming division. Once the deal is complete, however, Peters noted that Netflix is excited to work with WB Games and that there is “definitely an opportunity there”.

It is worth noting that there are several studios under the larger Warner Bros. Games umbrella, including heavy hitters like Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios, Batman: Arkham series developer Rocksteady Games, and Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software. However, it is also no secret that the gaming division has gone through a down period, thanks in large part to the failure of live-service titles like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus to make any reasonable dent in the market.

These had far-reaching effects on some studios, and a report from back in February indicates that they were part of the reason behind the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego. The closure of Monolith Productions was especially noteworthy as it also led to the cancellation of the in-development Wonder Woman game.

“This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games,” said the company when the studio’s closure was announced. “We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans, developed by our world-class studios, and getting our games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.”

It will own WB's film and television studios, but the jury is out on video game developers like NetherRealm and Rocksteady.

Netflix has announced that it’s entered an agreement with Warner Bros. to acquire the latter for $82.7 billion in total enterprise value (equity valued at $72 billion). It will include film and television studios alongside HBO Max and HBO, though the release didn’t mention Warner’s game developers like NetherRealm Studios, Rocksteady Games, and so on. Discovery Global, the Global Networks division of WB, will become its own company with the separation planned to conclude by Q3 2026.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said, “Our mission has always been to entertain the world. By combining Warner Bros.’ incredible library of shows and movies – from timeless classics like Casablanca and Citizen Kane to modern favorites like Harry Potter and Friends – with our culture-defining titles like Stranger Things, KPop Demon Hunters and Squid Game, we’ll be able to do that even better. Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.”

Co-CEO Greg Peters added that the acquisition “will improve our offering and accelerate our business for decades to come.” Praising Warner Bros. for helping to “define entertainment for more than a century,” he noted that, “With our global reach and proven business model, we can introduce a broader audience to the worlds they create—giving our members more options, attracting more fans to our best-in-class streaming service, strengthening the entire entertainment industry and creating more value for shareholders.”

Warner Bros. Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav said, “Today’s announcement combines two of the greatest storytelling companies in the world to bring to even more people the entertainment they love to watch the most. For more than a century, Warner Bros. has thrilled audiences, captured the world’s attention, and shaped our culture. By coming together with Netflix, we will ensure people everywhere will continue to enjoy the world’s most resonant stories for generations to come.”

Several of Warner Bros.’ properties, from DC Comics to Mortal Kombat and Harry Potter, have ties to video games, so it’s interesting to note how this could affect their respective studios. For its part, Netflix has had mixed success with its foray into games – aside from layoffs, it also split from Cozy Grove and Spirit Crossing developer Spry Fox.

Wallace is known for his work in Bikeriders and Euphoria, but it is currently unknown exactly what character he will be playing.

It looks like production on Netflix’s adaptation of Assassin’s Creed has been moving forward at a steady pace. Just a few months after the show got new showrunners and producers, a new report by Deadline has revealed that Toby Wallace will be one of the regulars in the upcoming series. Wallace, known for his work in Bikeriders and Euphoria, is the first of the acts confirmed for the series.

While Wallace’s exact character is currently unknown, the actor is expected to take on the role of one of the co-leads in the Assassin’s Creed series. It is worth noting that the title is also ambiguous enough to hide whether he will play one of show’s protagonists or antagonists as well. Not too many details about the show itself have been confirmed yet either, aside from the fact that it will be a thriller and will focus on the shadow war between Assassins and Templars.

Robert Patino and David Wiener were confirmed to be helming the Assassin’s Creed Netflix show back in July. In the announcement, the duo spoke about how excited they were to work on the franchise, since they have been fans of the series since its first outing all the way back in 2007.

“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007,” said Wiener and Patino. “Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us. Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance. But more than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time.”

“And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species, when those connections break. We’ve got an amazing team behind us with the folks at Ubisoft and our champions at Netflix, and we’re committed to creating something undeniable for fans all over the planet.”

Matt O’Toole, along with Ubisoft Film & Telivision’s Austin Dill, Margaret Boykin and Gerard Guillemot were also confirmed as being part of the production of Assassin’s Creed in the role of executive producers. In a statement, Boykin spoke about getting to work with Wiener and Patino, as well as signing the deal with Netflix to produce the show.

“We are so excited to work alongside Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners to bring this beloved franchise to series,” said Boykin. “We look forward to delivering an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about Assassin’s Creed, while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide.”

Ubisoft has been making quite a few moves when it comes to transmedia adaptations of its IPs. Earlier this week, the company announced a partnership with FX Entertainment to produce an anthology series based on the Far Cry franchise, with Rob Mac serving as executive producer as well as starring in the series.
