Developed by a separate team, more information will be coming in 2018.

Dontnod Entertainment, which developed Life is Strange and is currently working on the sequel along with action RPG Vampyr, has a new game in the works. It recently announced that it’s partnering with Bandai Namco for a new IP that will be a narrative adventure. The game itself has been in production since 2016 and sees the player conducting an investigation inside of a fictional US city.

Interestingly, more information – like the title, its platforms and when it will release – shall come in 2018. This makes us believe that the game will release even later. And for those worried that Dontnod is stretched too thin, it’s already been confirmed that the new IP will be developed by a different team with senior developers.

Speaking to MCV, Bandai Namco marketing VP Hervé Hoerdt spoke said that, “We want [new IPs] to make up 50 per cent of our business, and we’re achieving this by developing long-term partnerships with a few studios. The first visible part of this was Little Nightmares, and we’ve been extremely happy [with it], but this is only the start of something. We also recently released Get Even, and now we’re very happy to partner with Dontnod.

“Dontnod was a kind of rough diamond – very much a rising star, I would say – and with the success of Life is Strange, it’s the first big player in terms of quality business model, vision, and we think that’s a good strategy that fits. It was the right moment, so we decided to partner [with them].”

On another Life is Strange-related note, Deck Nine Games has released a launch trailer for the prequel Life is Strange: Before The Storm. The first episode of three will be out on August 31st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

While Sony’s E3 press conference wasn’t “bad”, fans noted some studios distinctly missing from the line-up. One of those was Sucker Punch, who developed Infamous: Second Son for the PS4 and have reportedly been working on a new IP.

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios president for SIE, discussed this new IP about two years ago when speaking to Kinda Funny (via GameSpot). In a new interview at E3 2017 about Sony’s first party output and the status of Sucker Punch’s new game, Yoshida said that the game has been played many times since.

Interestingly enough, it would seem that a reveal will be coming soon, which lines up with Yoshida’s comments about withholding certain announcements from E3 2017 and offering more information later.

We’re excited to see what Sucker Punch has to showcase, especially since it’s apparently a completely new IP. What do you think it will be? Let us know in the comments below.

Turtle Rock Studios is hiring for something new on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Turtle Rock Studios’ Evolve may have sunk without a trace but the minds behind Left 4 Dead aren’t out of the picture just yet. Job listings have appeared indicating a “cutting edge” and “unannounced new IP” that the studio is working on.

The listing for animation programmer stated that, “We are searching for an exceptional programmer to help us in developing unique and stunning characters for an unannounced, cutting-edge game targeting next generation hardware.” So it seems a given that it’s coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Other listings that emerged for the unannounced new IP include narrative director and senior rendering programmer for PS4, Xbox One and PC. There are a number of other positions that can be seen here.

Has Turtle Rock moved away from the multiplayer-focused experiences of old or will it be making a new effort to live up to Left 4 Dead‘s success? We’ll find out in the coming months so stay tuned for more details.

The Walking Dead, A Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands developer Telltale Games recently spoke to Games Industry International about a new IP that the studio is working on.

CEO Kevin Brunner stated that, “I’ll say we’ve spent a lot of time experimenting over the last decade with how powerful a storytelling tool interactive can be and when we thought about building something from the ground up that gave us absolutely everything we could dream of as storytelling tools.

“The right kind of story, the right kind of setting, the right kind of people involved, everything.”

Though Telltale has a very strong pedigree with its adventure games, Bruner described the new IP as “probably the most ambitious thing the company has ever done but we feel like we’re ready for it. We’re very excited to talk about it, but we can’t say much more right now. But it is the perfect thing for us.”

What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.

Details on Cliffy B's next game will be revealed on July 8th.

Former Gears of War and Unreal creator Cliff Bleszinski has already revealed that he’s coming out of retirement to announce his new project on July 8th. The man himself has now revealed a countdown timer for the game’s reveal, which is roughly 4 days, 6 hours and some odd minutes away.

Over on Twitter, Bleszinski’s thoughts on the matter were rather straightforward: “I have a countdown clock. Shit just got real.”

Concept art for the game has been doing the rounds in the past few months, with rumours stating that this next project would be called Silverstreak. Bleszinski has also expressed his interest in public funding through avenues like Kickstarter but it’s unknown whether his new project will go that route. As for the development team creating this new game, we only know about Boss Key Productions, a company which Bleszinski had incorporated recently.

What are your thoughts? Looking forward to Dude Huge’s newest game? Let us know below.

Housemarque Games has been busy with DLC for its hit PlayStation 4 shooter RESOGUN but that’s not all – the developer has been teasing a new project on Twitter that will be far superior.

“Imagine RESOGUN, right? Now imagine it so much better that you almost forget how good the original was. That. Is. Coming.”

Naturally one would assume this is RESOGUN 2, right? However, regarding when there would be more information on RESOGUN 2, Housemarque responded, “there’s no RESOGUN 2.”

So a new IP that will be superior to RESOGUN? This seems to fit in line with earlier reports that Housemarque is working on an unannounced PS4 title along with DLC for RESOGUN. Lately, the developer has been busy bringing Dead Nation to the next gen console with the recently released Apocalypse Edition.

What are your thoughts on getting a superior title to RESOGUN? Are you hankering for a sequel all the same? Let us know below.

Some games just aren't made on hype alone, according to the developer.

Much controversy is being generated from the latest round of lay-offs at SCE Santa Monica, especially considering that the reason for the same comes from a recently cancelled IP.

There is a strong conviction from both gamers and developers like Jonathan Blow that a new IP should take precedence. With Sony’s success and with for PlayStation 4 in the past few months, surely it could have afforded a risk like this?

But sometimes, it’s not about just hype. As NeoGAF user DemonNite, who works as an employee at Sony, says, “Hype alone does not decide if a game should be completed or not. If a game isn’t working out it’s not working out. Releasing a game based on ‘hype’ is suicide and would cause more damage in the long term.

“I’m a gamer as well and would love to see games make it through to the end but sometimes I understand why some are canned for business reasons. Everyone using TLOU as an example have to know that something special was seen very early on in development and it paid off. If a project fails to impress after years of work… well.

“However, another option for some projects (like Until Dawn) is to give it to another pair of hands with a fresh new look. But I don’t see that happening here.”

On being told that sometimes, a new IP will be far more preferable to yet another sequel to an already established franchise, DemonNite said, “New IP or not new IP, if the game isn’t impressing the right people it will not be worth finishing, from their point of view. No one is confirming if they will all work on GoW now. What if its trying out another stab at another new IP?

“…And of course Sony do know what hype is surrounding their projects. Devs and other people will know what is going on.”

The Witness creator says every game was once a new IP.

About 50 team members were recently laid off from Sony’s internal Santa Monica studio. Lay-offs are nothing new in the industry but this is Sony – a company which has been seeing nothing but phenomenal success in the past few months since launching the PS4. To make things worse, the lay-offs were due to a new IP being cancelled.

Many individuals have their own take on the solution, including The Witness and Braid creator Jonathan Blow who called out the “suits” responsible for such decisions on Twitter. “Game publishers like to talk about how new IPs are scary and risky and usually not worth it. But this is clearly poor thinking, because every single mega blockbuster franchise, that Mr. Business Suit Guy would rather put the money toward, was once a new IP.

“It is so obvious, how does Mr. Business Suit not see this? Maybe next time I meet Mr. Business Suit I will ask him to name an Old IP that was not once a New IP.”

Do you agree with Blow’s statements? Let us know in the comments below.

Unfortunately, Guerrill Games isn't ready to reveal anything about it just yet.

Before Killzone: Shadow Fall had been announced, Guerrilla Games had revealed that it had been working on a new IP after Killzone 3. Of course, when Shadow Fall made its presence known, that all went out the window as we focused on the PS4’s launch.

However, that IP is still in development and is now two and a half years into development. This came to light via a recent video released for Japanese consumers ahead of the PS4’s launch. Two minutes into the video, executive producer Angie Smets states that, “Well, we are working on a new IP, and we started on that already two-an-a-half years ago but unfortunately we cannot share details yet of the new IP, so you’ll have to be a bit more patient.”

What could it be? More importantly, when could it be? Time will tell but in the mean time, how are you finding Shadow Fall and its multiplayer? Let us know in the comments.

Writer Neil Druckmann also discusses The Last of Us on PS4.

The Last of Us: Left Behind DLC is out and already garnering rave reviews, but writer Neil Druckmann has revealed to Eurogamer that currently, the team is brainstorming on several new ideas. These include a new IP and even The Last of Us 2.

“We just wrapped up Left Behind, and Bruce Straley, the game director, and I have been doing this for over four years now. So it’s just time for a break, and to recharge the batteries.

“We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP – we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP. So we have to get some good steps and see… It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind.

“Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired – what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?”

But will The Last of Us and Left Behind come to the PS4 as part of a bundle? Druckmann responded that, “We have such limited resources, and it’s a question of where you put the resources. It’s something where we can have a feel of where the demand is, and where our time is best spent. It’s something that we’ll figure out as we move forward.”
