Bugbear Games’ Wreckfest, their demolition derby racer that has been available to play for PC players for a while now thanks to Steam Early Access, will be finally making its way over to consoles- Bugbear have announced today that the game will be launching on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Bugbear also confirmed that pre-ordering the game will enable you to play it early- fans who pre-order the game via Bugbear’s website will be given access to the game’s beta on PS4 and Game Preview on Xbox One. The final release of the completed game, meanwhile, is expected to be in Spring 2017.

There will be more coming from the studio, as well- Bugbear have announced a new physics based PC racer called Stuntfest, which they describe as “a wacky vehicle-based physics playground that will enable you to create your own mischievous levels using the easy-to-use in-game editor and then trying to accomplish all sorts of crazy ragdoll stunts.” It is due to launch on Steam Early Access this Fall. You can check out a teaser trailer for it below.

Colliding cars at breakneck speeds is what it's all about.

Bugbear Entertainment’s crowd-funded Next Car Game has been making significant progress in the past few months and finally has an official name. It’s now called Wreckfest and the Flatout developer prefaced the announcement by quoting Urban Dictionary:

“Mostly common in racing series such as NASCAR and Formula 1 (aka F1). This happens on some tracks during races where the cars are close together and drivers misjudge how close the cars are. Thus, resulting in one big wreck after another.

“As Wreckfest is all about the madness of colliding cars at breakneck speeds, a term describing the glory of tearing metal is nothing if not apt.”

Wreckfest is available through Steam Early Access and has currently reached Build 6. This includes a new car, better suspension physics, a new track and multiplayer for up to 18 players. What are your thoughts on the new name? Let us know in the comments below and check out the full list of new features in the latest build here.

Enter...THE SANDPIT.

Bugbear Entertainment’s Next Car Game continues to roll on with new updates. The latest one includes a new sandpit style race track along with a new replay mode to rewatch races from every possible angle. You’ll also have functions like slow-motion, fast forward, depth of field and much more to play around with.

If that weren’t enough, you can also look forward to two new derby stadiums, which include a mudpit, along with added support for wheels and pedals. Physics and suspension have been revamped and gamepad support has been made more responsive as well. You can also your weather settings in the event setup, with stormy evening and misty evening available as choices. Did we mention improved deformation physics to make care damage look more real?

All of this is very much a work in progress though as Bugbear Entertainment readies for the game’s commercial release for PC later this year. Hit up the official site for more information on the update.

Featuring American Sedan and Figure 8 Track.

Bugbear Games’ self explanatorily titled next car game, Next Car Game, just got a new update released for it on Steam Early Access, which adds some things that are as imaginatively named as the game itself- a new figure 8 track called the Figure 8 Track, as well as an American sedan car, called the American Sedan.

I love these guys’ sense of humor.

The newest update also includes a cinematic camera, which should help players trying to take some cool screenshots of the game; apparently, the community is already on it, taking some excellent, excellent screenshots and sharing them with each other. Honestly, with the amount of beautiful and glorious destruction in the game, I’d happily welcome this feature too.

Next Car Game is currently in Early Access on Steam; all players should have received the update for the game automatically, but just in case they did not, they should try to restart Steam to initiate the process.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more news and updates.

And this is only over Steam Early Access.

Bugbear Games’ next car game, aptly titled Next Car Game, went live on Steam Early Access in mid January, and in just one week, it managed to make $1 million. To be clear, the game is only available over Early Access (and over the developer’s own website as an early build)- it hasn’t even had an official release yet.

The game- which was crowdfunded entirely (after a failed first attempt at crowdfunding it over Kickstarter) is also a demonstration of the incredible technology that powers it, that lets the developers show off variable and dynamic damage models for all vehicles in the game, which creates an immersive destruction derby experience for players.

For those not in the know, the game is a game with an emphasis on car destruction, in the vein of classic franchises like Destruction Derby, Carmageddon, or even Burnout- except the emphasis on damage is backed by an incredible damage model as well.

Experience Flatout developer's amazing - yet buggy - new game today.

Bugbear Entertainment’s Next Car Game is now available for play on Steam Early Access for $25. A $35 Digital Deluxe Edition is also available which includes wallpapers, an exclusive in-game race and a soundtrack.

Next Car Game focuses on the same destruction derby pandemonium that defined the developer’s well-known Flatout series (though there will be normal races as well). The game of course evolves its damage model significantly, allowing for cars which fall to pieces over a period of time and experience more realistic wear and tar. While the game was initially on Kickstarter, it failed to meet its funding targets but still managed to come through.

It’s important to note that the game is rife with bugs as it’s still very much in an early stage of development. Bugbear Entertainment is interested in gathering fan feedback though, so check it out if you’re interested in helping. Head here to download the game.

Demo downloaded 50,000 times since availability.

Though the initial Kickstarter fell short, Bugbear Entertainment has managed to reach its funding goal for Next Car Game thanks to the availability of Early Access via pre-orders, with the goal having been reached “only a couple of days before Christmas.” The demo has been downloaded 50,000 times since its availability with sales doubling during the Christmas week.

Bugbear stated that, “It was the first time we were going to show the game to everyone, and we were very anxious to hear the feedback, but the game took the Internet by storm: the first Early Access release doubled the sales of the title during the Christmas week.

“Last autumn, we had a stretch of bad luck with our Kickstarter campaign, and it didn’t reach the goal we were aiming for. Even so, we didn’t lose our faith in the game and wanted to get it in the hands of the players as soon as possible. And thanks to our great supporters, we really couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas present.

“All this is of course a testament to how awesome crowd of supporters we are fortunate enough to have. Although our game is still at a pretty early stage, and as such, contains many missing features and numerous bugs, the players have loved what we already got and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve already received a plenty of smart suggestions for future improvements, some of which will of course find their way into the final game.

“During the coming months we’re going to give the game a lot of polish as well as implement new exciting features, and our Early Access supporters have an opportunity to experience the game as it develops and get involved in the development.”

Next Car Game will be available later this year for PC though it could arrive for home consoles if enough money comes in. Are you partaking in the Early Access build? Let us know your thoughts about it in the comments below.

Earlier today it was announced that the upcoming Kickstarter-funded racing game, Next Car Game, which was developed by Swedish company, BugBear Entertainment, also responsible for such racing titles as FlatOut and FlatOut 2, will have an early access pre-order version of the game available on the company website starting today, and can be downloaded via Steam.

The special early access pre-order edition allows gamers to play the game immediately as well as gain access to some exclusive content.

While this sounds too good to be true, BugBear has also made sure to point out that while this early access version of Next Car Game is intended to give you as much of a feel for the game as possible, it is still a very early version of the game. As such there will be numerous bugs gamers will run into, glitches, and even missing content. Early Access gamers will be able to play through the entire development process of the game.

A physics simulation that holds potential in the long run.

Next Car Game is the upcoming title from BugBear Entertainment, the studio that delivered both Flatout 1 and 2, Sega Rally Revo, and Ridge Racer Unbounded. I think it’s safe to say that this is one team of people who know what they’re doing in creating great car games. Next Car Game is being created as a KickStarter campaign that although is still in early stages, is already available to community backers.

During this stage in development Next Car Game is more of a playable tech demonstration than it is a traditional demo. The player is given one car and is able to drive around in a playground of destruction filled with traps, ramps, and environmental based weapons that you’re required to drive into in order to demonstrate the physics being worked on within the game. There’s a certain “Wow” factor about it when your goal is chaos and mayhem.

"Although the playground serves as nothing more than a non-textured background with white surfaces and gigantic ramps, the traps and launchers themselves are as frightening as they are creative."

As there’s no real game mode, time limit, or objective such as earning points or racing against the other drivers , the demo becomes more of a competition between you and the A.I. to see who can trash their car the most. Even though there’s no choice of vehicle available at this time it doesn’t detract or take anything away from the game as it only serves as a physics simulation. It would have been something of interest though to see how the physic simulation work against other vehicle types, as well as a hint of what may be accessible in the final game.

Although the playground serves as nothing more than a non-textured background with white surfaces and gigantic ramps, the traps and launchers themselves are as frightening as they are creative. Grinders, Shredders, Ski-Jump style launchers, a jet engine, and even a mechanical spider are all there for your suicidal needs. The effort within the creation aspect of the game is phenomenal, It’s Flatout meets Saw, Jigsaw included.

The car functions on simple control method common to all driving games with the addition of controlling the player’s camera. This serves as a tool in demonstrating the game’s physics simulation. Certain objects in the environment play a role within the destruction aspects and can be thrown, broken, and toppled down on top of each other when being interacted with. Since the player is given direct control of the camera without the need for driving the car, you are able to pick up the objects within the environment which can then be launched into the air. These include barrels, scaffolding huts, homes, and concrete pillars.

"The physics engine itself is quite impressive and does more than enough to put other games to shame, and these extends past the genre of driving games."

The physics engine itself is quite impressive and does more than enough to put other games to shame, and these extends past the genre of driving games. As stated previously during this point in time the game is nothing more than a tech demo, so there’s not much available to the player in terms of choice outside of your own suicidal tendencies of vehicle mayhem. The vehicle itself handles as standard and the car models look great. As the game is still in early stages it will be more of a waiting game to see how the cars improve visually and if any tweaks are made to the handling system.

Due to the nature of the demo which is directly in sync with its enjoyability, you’ll be spending more of your time wrecking the car and seeing just how far you can push it until there’s nothing left. The control scheme allows you to reset the damage and the position of your car at anytime if you wish to clear up the damages you have and will inevitably make. Either way the vehicle will continue to drive regardless of its state even if that means a metallic ball of mess with only three wheels.

It’s easy throw away an hour or two playing the game when essentially you don’t expect be playing it for more than thirty minutes. The demo is lacking in an environment and there’s nothing to look at past the other cars and deadly contraptions. With that being said there’s a strange addiction factor that the demo holds on you which means the final game should be downright amazing.

"There's not much going it for it on the negative side for things such as bugs, glitches, or collision-detection, which is good."

There’s not much going it for it on the negative side for things such as bugs, glitches, or collision-detection, which is good. With that being said though there’s no environmental elements more natural to the game such as road surfaces, barriers, trees, or off-road terrain available to test these issues. It will be something we will have to wait and see later on in the finished game. It should be noted that the game runs just as well as it plays and I did not experience any performance problems or graphical hiccups, when testing the game across multiple graphical settings.

It will be interesting to see what else the team brings to the table and where the game goes from here. Nevertheless, the physical simulation and creativeness that lies in the game means it’s worth the attention it’s already been receiving.

Mayhem as usual ensues in this new tech showcase.

Flatout developer Bugbear Entertainment may not have been successful with the Kickstarter for their next project, titled Next Car Game, but they’re still very much funding the game. The studio announced that thus far, 5600 players have pledged support for the game’s funding through their website. Of course, a demand for features such as LAN multiplayer, releases on Xbox One and PS4 and more have also been made, with Bugbear to announce stretch goals in the coming days.

Until then, the developer has revealed a new Sneak Peek trailer for Next Car Game, which looks into the technology powering the game for the first time. This includes dynamic objects, a physics cannon and demonstration of the game’s physics, stunts and of course, destruction. The physics cannon is especially interesting, since it allows you to destroy things using missiles, and just outright make a mess of the game. Check it out above.
