The Nintendo Switch OLED will be priced at $399.99, while the base model will be $339.99, and the Switch Lite will be $229.99.

Nintendo has announced that it will be raising the prices of all three variants of the Switch. In its announcement, the company has stated that the changed pricing will be coming into effect starting on August 23. As part of this change, the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch OLED, and the Nintendo Switch Lite are all getting more expensive in the US.

The company has said that these pricing changes were made only for the US, and that the decision is “based on market conditions”. While the company hasn’t outright said it, the prices going up might be related to the tariffs imposed by the US when it comes to importing goods.

As part of this change, the base model Nintendo Switch will be priced at $339.99, marking a roughly $40 increase in price. The Nintendo Switch OLED, on the other hand, is going up by around $50, its pricing now coming out to $399.99. The Nintendo Switch Lite will be priced at $229.99, its price going up by around $30.

While Nintendo has stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 is not being affected by price hikes, some of its accessories are slated to also get more expensive. Along with this, devices like the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, as well as some amiibo will be getting price hikes as well.

The announcement comes shortly after Nintendo revealed sales data for the Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2, as well as games across both consoles. The company also announced that Mario Kart World has sold more than 5.5 million copies in its first month alone.

A Reddit user claiming to be a GameStop employee says a new Switch OLED SKU was added to the retailer's database ahead of the upcoming Zelda title's imminent gameplay showing.

Later today, Nintendo will be unveiling 10 minutes of gameplay footage for the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, accompanied by commentary from series producer Eiji Aonuma, but it seems like that’s not all the company will be showing off.

A Reddit user claiming to be a GameStop employee recently said in a post that a new and unannounced Nintendo Switch OLED SKU was added to the retailer’s database ahead of Tears of the Kingdom’s upcoming gameplay reveal, suggesting that Nintendo might also be gearing up to announce a special edition model of the Switch OLED. The Reddit user then went on to attach an image of the aforementioned database in a follow-up comment, showing the newly added SKU in question.

This isn’t the first that we’ve heard of this from unverified sources. Earlier this year, images of a Tears of the Kingdom-themed special edition Switch OLED model were also leaked online. Either way, it apparently won’t be long before we know for sure one way or another whether this is accurate.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is due out for the Nintendo Switch on May 12.

Nintendo's latest quarterly financials come with updated hardware and software sales figures, with the Switch hitting another major milestone.

The Nintendo Switch is undoubtedly one of the most successful consoles to launch in recent times, and judging by the quarterly financial results that Nintendo recently made public, it doesn’t seem like the console’s momentum will slow down anytime soon.

Nintendo has announced that the Switch has sold 103.54 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2021, up from 92.87 million units at the end of the previous quarter. With the second-highest sales figure for the FYQ3 period in the Switch’s lifetime, it has now outsold the Wii and become Nintendo’s highest selling home console ever (though handheld consoles Game Boy and DS have higher sales numbers). Nintendo also mentioned that the Switch’s OLED model is set off to a good start, while the existing models retained their sales momentum.

In addition, the company has also announced that net-sales and operation profits have dropped down by 6% and 9.3% year-on-year respectively. The holiday season also contributed to the numbers for both the net sales and operating profit considerably closer to the previous fiscal year’s records.

Nintendo has also revised its full-year forecast, with increases of 3.1% for sales and 7.7% for operating profit, along with the forecast for software sales increasing to 220 million for the fiscal year, which is 20 million units more than the 200 million units sold last year.

At the same time, the forecast for total Switch sales for the fiscal year (i.e. by the end of March) have been revised due to the global semiconductor shortage, with the current total of 23 million being lowered from the 24 million forecast at the end of the previous quarter (which itself had been lowered from the quarter before that).

Nintendo has also announced updated sales figures for a number of first party Switch games. Read more on that through here and here.

According to the Adobe Digital Economy Index, the $300 console beat out the Xbox Series X, PS5 and Switch OLED during Black Friday.

Black Friday has passed and the usual suspects, from the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to Nintendo’s recently released Switch OLED, were in demand. However, according to the Adobe Digital Economy Index (as reported by Business Insider), it’s the Xbox Series S that was the top-selling console during Black Friday sales. This is based on “over one trillion visits to US retail sites.”

Along with its $300 price tag, the availability of the console also made it a prime choice for many consumers. Chip shortages also continue to be an issue for the PS5 and Xbox Series X – there’s just not enough supply to meet demand. Xbox Game Pass is great but it also doesn’t hurt that the highly anticipated Halo Infinite is releasing on December 8th, thus making the Xbox Series S a great value option for playing it.

Unfortunately, those seeking the other consoles may not have much luck in 2022 either. Nintendo will produce 20 percent fewer Switch consoles for the fiscal year due to chip shortages. Sony has also reportedly cut back on PS5 production due to the same and Xbox boss Phil Spencer notes that console supplies may continue to be in short supply heading into next year.

In total, the Switch sold 711,000 units in the US throughout the month, with its total sales only being 3% down from what it managed in October 2020.

The Nintendo Switch currently stands at nearly 93 million units shipped worldwide, having managed to hit that number in less than five years, and it’s abundantly clear that at least at this moment, the system is showing no signs of slowing down in any sense. Of course, something that Nintendo expects is going to contribute to the Switch’s longevity is the new Nintendo Switch OLED model, which, it seems, has gotten off to a solid start where sales are concerned.

As revealed recently by the NPD Group, the Switch was the best-selling console in the US for the month of October in terms of both, units sold and revenue generated. Speaking recently with The Washington Post, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser delved deeper into that, providing some numbers to give context for exactly how well it did.

According to the Bowser, throughout the month of October, in the United States, the Switch sold a total of 711,000 units, which is only 3% down from what the console managed to sell in October 2020. Meanwhile, of that figure, 314,000 units sold were the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

“October this year is only 3 percent lower than what was sold last year, which I think we can all agree was a bit of an anomaly year when it comes to overall hardware sales,” Bowser said. “So we think this is a solid start for the OLED model. We also think this is a very strong indicator of the performance we can expect as we go through the holiday season.”

Interestingly enough, Bowser also revealed that many of the Switch units that were sold throughout the month were purchased by those who already own the console, and were buying another one for either themselves or their families. The exact numbers for that haven’t been revealed, but it’s an interesting stat that sheds light on what Nintendo’s approach is with the Switch in general, and with the Switch OLED in particular.

The Switch OLED saw strong debuts in the UK and Japan as well, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to see it doing well in the US as well. Recently, Nintendo reiterated that the Switch is only at the “midpoint” of its life cycle, which means the company is likely hedging its bets on the newest variant of the system continuing to boost its sales figures.

Recently, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa admitted that due to the global shortage of semiconductor chips, the company is going to be unable to meet demand for the Switch this Holiday season. Read more on that through here.

Metroid Dread sold nearly 87,000 units on debut, and has already become the fourth highest-selling Metroid game in Japan to date. Far Cry 6 also saw a strong debut.

Famitsu has released the data for last week’s software and hardware sales in Japan, and it was a pretty big week for Nintendo. Metroid Dread launched last week, and just as it did in the UK, it enjoyed a solid debut in Japan as well, topping the charts with nearly 87,000 units sold. That makes it the series’ best launch in Japan to date by a significant margin. Metroid Dread has also instantly become the fourth highest-selling Metroid game in Japan to date.

Another new release last week was Far Cry 6, which has also seen a solid debut. It actually occupies two places in the charts, with the PS4 (over 34,000 copies sold) and PS5 (over 16,000 copies sold) versions of the game debuting at second and third place respectively, for a total of nearly 51,000 units sold over the week.

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch dominates as always, but with sales being significantly boosted thanks to the launch of the Switch OLED. In total, the Switch sold over 179,000 units, of which over 138,000 were Switch OLED units. Interestingly enough the new model has sold less at launch than the Switch Lite (177,936) and the base Switch 330,637) did, but according to Bloomberg, pre-orders for Switch OLED sold out quickly, and Nintendo most likely underestimated demand for the device.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X/S also crossed 100,000 lifetime sales in Japan, less than a year from launch. In comparison, it took the Xbox One 50 months to hit that milestone. The new consoles look set to surpass the Xbox One’s lifetime sales in the coming months.

You can check out the full software and hardware charts for the week ending October 10 below.

The Switch's newest model reportedly had a "significantly better launch" than the Nintendo Switch Lite did back in 2019.

The Nintendo Switch OLED was on the receiving end of plenty of backlash back when Nintendo first announced it (primarily due to all the expectations surrounding the rumoured Switch Pro), but clearly, that hasn’t affected the device’s sales. As GamesIndustry reports, the Switch OLED saw a successful launch in the UK last week, selling “significantly” more than the Switch Lite did upon launch back in 2019.

In fact, last week was the 14th biggest week for the Switch in terms of sales in the UK since its 2017 launch. All of the 13 bigger weeks are either Black Friday or Christmas periods, with one week (placed fourth) being the week of the original Switch’s launch itself. Last week, the Switch OLED accounted for 70% of all Switch sales in the UK.

Interestingly enough, the Switch OLED already accounts for 7% of all Switch consoles sold in the UK to date. By comparison, the Switch Lite currently has a 20% share, two years on from its launch.

Metroid Dread also launched last week, and also got off to a great start in terms of sales in the UK. Read more on that through here.

A recent teardown reveals that the Switch OLED's dock may actually be capable of outputting at 4K and 60 FPS.

A content creator by the name of KawlunDram has taken to Twitter to reveal that the Switch OLED‘s dock does have new hardware capable of improved video output. They note that the dock’s DP2MHDMI chip has been updated to a new Realtek chip, which seemingly has support for 4K/60 FPS output. This comes shortly after a teardown from Nintendo Prime, who also claimed the same.

The Switch OLED also comes with a new HDMI 2.0 cable, which, as tested by KawlunDram, works just fine with an Xbox One X. However, a point worth noting is that the Tegra X1 chip in the Nintendo Switch does not support 4K output- but Nintendo has added an “update dock firmware” function on the new OLED models, which might hint at future updates adding some sort of 4K support.

Either way, this re-instantiates the belief that Nintendo is actually working on a 4K Switch Pro. A recent report revealed that developers have been receiving development kits for a 4K console, which Nintendo dubbed as false. Given the gravity of chip shortages and logistics constraints, it isn’t hard to imagine why Nintendo may be refraining from announcing any new hardware just yet – if it is actually working on something, that is.

The next thing I did was hook up my Xbox One X to my TV with the new HDMI cable that came in the dock and yep, everything works fine pic.twitter.com/uTBRWxFeF9
