A new update is available for Nioh 2 in the wake of The Tengu’s Disciple DLC launch in July. It adds slightly more content with the new Picture Scrolls having enemies and bosses from the DLC. These will drop in Dream of the Demon difficulty which seen some other tweaks.

Essentially, there should be an increase in appearance of Special Effects from equipment that drops from enemies. These Special Effects won’t appear with the Blacksmith’s Temper function so it’s a nice change. You can also expect an increase in the minimum value of the Special Effects, which should eliminate too much deviance from the max value (which making the latter easier to appear).

Other adjustments include the “Deflect Bullets and Arrows (Timely Guard)” skill being able to deflect other projectiles. While Amrita and Gold rewards from Bakegani and Nuppeppo have been decreased, the amount obtained from bosses in the DLC has been increased. Along with The Tengu’s Disciple DLC being available, a new update is live for Team Ninja’s Nioh 2. The former brings several new story missions, a new difficulty setting called “Dream of the Demon”, new Guardian Spirits and a new weapon called the Splitstaff. So what does update 1.11 offer free for all players?

To start with, it adds a new feature called the Demon Parade Picture Scroll. These will drop from enemies in New Game Plus aka Dream of the Strong difficulty. Upon acquiring the item, Picture Scroll Missions can be played – clearing them will let you equip Demon Parade Picture Scrolls to become stronger. How does this work? You’ll need to find out for yourself.

Along with Dream of the Strong enemies dropping these items, you can also acquire them from Bloody Graves and other players via multiplayer. If you want to tackle Picture Scroll Missions with allies, this can be done in Expedition Mode. In addition to this, new Ninja and Onmyo Magic skills have been added along with new hairstyles, body and facial markings in the character creator.

Yesterday saw extensive gameplay for Nioh 2’s first paid DLC The Tengu’s Disciple. Along with a new boss fight, the new Splitstaff was also showcased in all of its long-range, pole-vaulting glory. A new story trailer is now available though and it provides a few details on the plot.

Taking place in a new region, Yashima, players will travel back in time to the Heian period’s closing years. Along with battling new enemies, like the giant Yokai crab, the DLC will look at the relationship between Otakemaru and Sohayamaru (that strangle whistle that’s been teased till now). New Guardian Spirits are also teased and it should be interesting to see what benefits they offer.

Nioh 2: The Tengu’s Disciple is out today on PS4. If you’ve yet to dive into the base game, check out our review for it here. The DLC’s launch will also bring new difficulty levels which should be available to all players. Stay tuned for more details on that front soon.

Team Ninja recently hosted a live stream for Nioh 2’s upcoming DLC The Tengu’s Disciple, in which the new staff weapon was showcased. Various previews have also gone live courtesy of publications like IGN Japan and Famitsu, offering a look at the new areas and one new boss. Check them out below.

The new staff is particularly interesting because its end points can detach and hit foes at longer range. It’s also possible to vault up and strike on the way down. In terms of mobility and combos, there’s definitely a lot of potential regardless of one’s play-style.

Then there’s the new boss, who can inflict a hefty amount of damage for those who get too close. In an interesting twist, defeating this boss leads to it joining forces with you, at least temporarily. Whatever the story may be, this is likely only the tip of all the challenges that await.

Nioh 2: The Tengu’s Disciple is out tomorrow for PS4. Along with a new weapon and bosses, you can also expect new armor, Guardian Spirits, and additional difficulty levels.

Koei Tecmo’s Nioh 2 will be receiving its first paid DLC this month with The Tengu’s Disciple. To provide a better idea of what fans can expect, there will be a live stream on July 29th with the developer. And as a tease, the official Nioh 2 Twitter posted a GIF with a new weapon. This staff weapon enables extensive reach by holding down the button along with increasing the number of possible hits. If you’ve seen the Lunar Staff in Ninja Gaiden, this seems to be similar and should be a welcome alternative to the Spear and Odachi. Stay tuned for more details next week when the stream goes live.

Nioh 2: The Tengu’s Disciple sees the protagonist heading to Yashima and picking up a whistle called Sohayamaru. The Yokai are somehow involved so it’s up to the player to save the day again. Along with new weapons and armor, there will also be new Guardian Spirits and skills (likely involving the new staff). You can also expect additional difficulty levels for end-game. The Tengu’s Disciple launches on July 30th for PS4.
