It looks like Nintendo’s hybrid console has won Goichi Suda’s heart.

Video game developers in general are very enamoured by the Switch—it makes sense. It’s just powerful enough to not limit them much, while also offering far more possibilities for what they can do and who they can reach thanks to its unique, modular form factor.

One developer who appears to be in love with the Switch is none other than Goichi Suda, better known as Suda51. The auteur game director and producer told Game Reactor in a recent interview that the Switch is basically the video game console, as far as he is concerned, citing the console’s unique hardware, as well as Nintendo’s embrace of indie developers as his reasons.

“I think Switch is great. Basically, I think that it is the video game console,” he said. “That is, you can start and play directly, plus they are giving a lot of support to independent games and developers, which I feel is great.”

Suda also explicitly said he isn’t done with the Switch yet. “I really want to do something more with the Switch,” he said.

To be fair, it’s hard to argue with anything he said. While PlayStation and Xbox have moved towards basically being closed box PCs for all purposes, the Switch is still unique and provides several possibilities that are flat out not available anywhere else. Combine that with the continuity of its home console and handheld hybrid experience, and you can see why Suda loves it. His first game for the console, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, is out now. A proper No More Heroes 3 could also be on the way.

The game might not be coming to Xbox One or PS4 any time soon.

Suda51 has finally announced the third entry in his cult classic No More Heroes franchise, No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again. The game was announced for the Nintendo Switch- but is it necessarily a Nintendo Switch exclusive? As this generation has taught us, we should never just assume that with third party games.

Speaking to DualShockers, however, Goichi Suda confirmed that the game is intended to be Nintendo Switch exclusive for now- and that it may even remain so for good. When asked about Switch exclusivity, he first said ‘yes’ straight away, before changing his answer to a more measured ‘maybe’.

This seems to imply that exclusivity will depend on how well the game does on the Switch. Historically, the series has been associated with Nintendo systems- No More Heroes was a Wii exclusive, but it was later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360. On the other hand, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle remained a Wii exclusive. The fate of Travis Strikes Back will be interesting to observe.
