The Inferno Saga storyline kicks off with Herald of Ragnarok Surtr starting his invasion of Midgard in an effort to burn all creation to the ground. The player and their fellow Einherjar have to try and stop Surtr’s conquest.

Season 3 brings a fair bit of new content to Tribes of Midgard, including new enemies, new weapons, runes, and a complete revamp for the survival mode.

Dubbed Survival Mode 2.0, the revamp is set in a world before the Village around the Seed of Yggdrasil existed. Players will be aided by Viking warrior Eira Foot-Crushed, since villagers aren’t available. The new survival mode has a new 90 Blessings skill tree to progress through as well.

Season 3 also brings Construction 2.0, which essentially scales everything in the construction inventory down to a 1x1x1 grid, allowing for a more detailed building experience. There are also new construction pieces, such as walls, pillars, roofs, and doors.

In a press release, Norsfell co-founder and creative director Julian Maroda said, “Since day one, our team has been fully committed to delivering expanded features and new content to our players, building our Tribe (of Midgard!) that’s now over two million strong and growing!

“Releasing on Xbox and Switch is our latest effort to continue to build Tribes of Midgard alongside our thriving community while simultaneously welcoming newcomers. Season 3 is massive and by far our biggest update to date, delivering game-changing content like our latest Saga (and biggest bad guy) alongside a complete revamp of Survival Mode. This ‘Survival 2.0’ couldn’t come at a better time, it’s the perfect starting point for new players on Xbox and Nintendo Switch!”

The new Saga Quest “Inferno” sees players raiding Outposts and gathering Muspelite to venture to the new Volcanic Spire region. You’ll take down various fire-based enemies en route to the largest Saga Boss yet. Along with new creatures, the region also offers new crafting materials along with sights like rivers of lava (which will burn you to crisp so be careful).

A new mode, Survival 2.0, is also being added. It sees the Einherjar surviving in the wilderness with Eira Foot-Crushed as their guide and felines Mániklo and Sóleyra. You’ll venture across Midgard, fighting enemies and exploring freely without worrying about Jotnar attacks or fortifying the village. This also introduces Crafting 2.0 where players use the Allforge to create Crafting Stations anywhere and repair equipment.

Other new additions include Spears and fishing, the latter offering a variety of fish to catch. The Standard Edition of the game will retail for $19.99 while the Deluxe Edition costs $29.99 on the Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop. It seems Tribes of Midgard has been rated by the ESRB for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Switch and Xbox games of the survival title haven’t been officially announced by the developer or by Gearbox Publishing, though with this classification rating going live, there’s a good chance that that ends up changing soon.

“Things are looking stable and there should be no more issues!” it noted in a Steam post. Based on Viking mythology, Tribes of Midgard sees players controlling an Einherjar as they nurture a seed of Yggdrasil. Their job is to protect it, building a settlement with fortifications and repelling the forces of Hel. Venture out during the day-time to find weapons and Artifacts that will provide a boost to one’s class.

However, when night draws near, you’ll need to take on various enemies (including towering Giants) to protect the seed. With support for up to 10 players and seasonal content updates (with the first season, The Wolf Saga, already being live), Tribes of Midgard presents an intriguing mix of survival and co-op hack and slash gameplay. Stay tuned for more details on updates and future content in the coming days.

Tribes of Midgard sees the player entrusted with a seed of Yggdrasil and must protect the ancient tree from Hel’s armies. This means building up an encampment, fortifying it with defenses and venturing out into the wilderness by day to find weapons and upgrades to become stronger. By night, Yggdrasil must be defended from enemies and soon enough, the Giants will come knocking as well.

Though it can be enjoyed solo, Tribes of Midgard supports up to 10 players with eight different classes to choose from. It will be available for PS4, PS5 and PC tomorrow. Seasonal updates are also planned with Season 1: The Wolf Saga going live tomorrow. Along with quests and companions, players can also leverage the new Rune System for a variety of different powers.

The base game will offer eight different classes to choose and unlock with requirements seemingly tied to progress in Saga Mode (which is the main story mode while Survival is the endless sandbox mode). The Ranger is one of two starting classes and offers quick shots and slowing abilities. Along with new classes, Season 1 will also introduce the Rune System.

This allows for slotting in different special powers that can enhance one’s strength further, as seen with the chain lightning that Might of Mjolnir provides. Season 1 will introduce 30 runes to the game and it’s possible to use multiple runes together. With each new season, there will be new Saga Quests which take players through Midgar to face tougher foes.

Future seasons will explore other aspects of Norse mythology and continue expanding on the game. Tribes of Midgard is releasing on July 27th for PS4, PS5 and PC.

The story focuses on a Viking clan that must protect the Seed of Yggdrasil from all manner of evil. Venture out during the day to gather resources, craft or discover new weapons and locate Artifacts to gain an edge. Outfit your settlement with walls and other defenses because at night, Hel’s forces will eventually attack. It also won’t be long before the Giants arrive to trigger Ragnarok.

Of course, you can either go it solo or team with up to ten other players in co-op. Tribes of Midgard will release on July 27th and is coming to PS4, PS5 and PC. Pre-orders are currently available and net some free cosmetics.

Still bummed about no new gameplay for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla? You might want to look into Tribes of Midgard developed by Norsfell Games and published by Gearbox. It sees players controlling a Viking clan and building up their settlement while venturing into the wilderness.

As you explore the world and gather different resources, it’ll be possible to craft new weapons (including Legendary items), discover artifacts, assault enemy camps and much more. You’ll want to craft some sturdy defenses as well, since the village holds the mythical Seed of Yggdrasil that must be guarded at night from Hel’s forces. Eventually, you’ll battle large Giants and try to stop Ragnarok.

With support for up to 10 players in co-op, a variety of foes and some nice-looking overhead combat, Tribes of Midgard is certainly a welcome surprise. It releases in 2021 for PS5 and PC (via Steam). Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming year.
