Ubisoft is gearing up to launch Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands later this month, and ahead of that launch, they have shared a brand new trailer for the game. This trailer, however, is more about showcasing the PC version of the game, and just how pretty it will be.

The trailer is in glorious 4K resolution, and runs at 60 frames per second- to show you the kind of performance you can expect in the PC version of the game, especially on higher end rigs. A lot of this performance is being attributed to Nvidida Gameworks (although this being a PC game, AMD users should be able to achieve high performance just fine, too).

One thing is for sure, this is a very pretty game on PC. Ghost Recon Wildlands launches on March 7 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. You can check out the new trailer for the game for yourself below.

But what about Nvidia?

It’s not surprise that Ubisoft is working on Watch Dogs 2, a sequel to its ambitious but deeply flawed open world title from 2014, but some more interesting details are beginning to emerge. After the original used Nvidia Gameworks, it’s been revealed by AMD’s Roy Taylor that the sequel will be “highly optimized” for AMD GPUs while also supporting DirectX 12.

Given the history between Nvidia and AMD, especially over the latter’s anger over Gameworks intentionally slowing performance on AMD GPUs, it should be interesting to see where this goes. Ubisoft and Nvidia have always been staunch partners for a variety of titles so you have to wonder what the deal is with Watch Dogs 2.

Though it hasn’t been officially revealed, rumours have suggested that Watch Dogs 2 will release this year to fill the vacant slot left by Assassin’s Creed. E3 2016 is as good as any place for a reveal so stay tuned for information on the same and let us know what you think in the comments.

As it is wont to do, Ubisoft has teamed up with Nvidia to bring some exclusive features to GeForce GTX owners in the PC version of Rainbow Six Siege.

This includes Nvidia Gameworks features like HBAO+ (horizon based ambient occlusion), TXAA (temporal anti-aliasing), optimized settings using GeForce Experience and much more. Keep in mind that you’ll need a fairly hefty GPU to handle these settings. It should be noted that Rainbow Six Siege will be available for free with certain GeForce GPUs. Head here to find out which ones.

Rainbow Six Siege will also be releasing for Xbox One and PS4 with an open beta currently underway for all platform owners. If you’re not sure about investing in Siege, then check out the opening beta – it features two modes, three maps, 14 operators to choose from and even some PvE Terrorist Hunt.

The game itself will be out on December 1st. What are your thoughts on the Nvidia Gameworks exclusive features for PC? Let us know in the comments below.

Ubisoft's latest action adventure finally releases on PC.

After a delayed release following the console versions, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is finally ready to release on PC. It will be out today, November 19th and will be our first look at how the game runs in 1080p resolution and 60 FPS (both the PS4 and Xbox One versions only ran at 900p/30 FPS).

That’s not all of course – with Nvidia Gameworks support, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will take advantage of more advanced graphical features on PC like HBAO+, percentage-closer soft shadows, temporal anti-aliasing and more. How will texture and shadow quality, draw distance and other assets look PC compared to consoles? For that matter, will the extra time allow for better performance on the platform compared to last year’s Unity? We’ll find out in the coming days.

Are you picking up Assassin’s Creed Syndicate on PC? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information on the release.

Konami’s Meta Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has been confirmed to support Nvidia GameWorks on PC. Though the features have yet to be revealed explicitly, Nvidia is working closely with the development team for adding the various effects.

What we do know from Nvidia’s official announcement is that shadows, lighting and terrain rendering have proven to be a big challenge and their quality will be aided by Nvidia GameWorks. Now the question remains as to what kind of performance drops we can expect from GameWorks and how AMD Radeon users will fare.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is the penultimate conclusion to the saga that began in Ground Zeroes and sees Big Boss out for vengeance several years later. It will be out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 on September 1st with the PC version releasing on September 15th. What are your thoughts on Nvidia lending its support? Let us know in the comments below.

AMD's Robert Hallock finds fault with Nvidia's developer program.

AMD and Nvidia have never really seen eye-to-eye on many issues. Nvidia felt that the newest generation of consoles were already outdated, while AMD…well, AMD’s technology was used in the PS4 and Xbox One. To say things are less than agreeable between the two graphics card manufacturers is an understatement.

However, Radeon Graphics’ Robert Hallock – who handles – technical communications believes there’s significant reason to be annoyed about Nvidia Gameworks. Meant as an add-on for Nvidia users and capable of enabling many Nvidia-specific features, Hallock believes it does a great disservice to AMD consumers.

“AMD already makes game-enhancing graphics samples available for free in our public graphics SDK. Mantle was conceived to one day be a public SDK. Keeping this material free and open ensures that gamers can receive code from the developer that’s been vetted against, and optimized for, all industry hardware,” he said to GamingBolt.

“The same cannot be said for Gameworks, which remains a mystery to developers unless they commit to a special license for which there are no public details.”

Hallock brings up some pretty good points. How often is it that AMD users are stuck with a less optimized experience due to preference for Gameworks? “Let’s be very clear: to date, Gameworks code has been forced to run on all graphics vendors – it is not isolated to Nvidia customers. Isn’t it disturbing that all of the Gameworks-enabled titles to date have not offered similar optimizations for AMD Radeon customers and have forced these customers to run code optimized for a different product, often at a penalty?

“That is a disservice to the significant percentage of the gaming public that runs AMD Radeon graphics, and it’s a disservice to the ingenuity of the developers.”

What are your thoughts on Hallock’s stance? Let us know in the comments below.

TXAA, PCSS shadows and HBAO+ are just the tip of the iceberg.

In case you weren’t wowed enough by the beauty of Far Cry 4, Ubisoft’s upcoming open world shooter set in the fictional Himalayan region of Kyrat, then this new video should convince you otherwise. PC producer Semen Kovalev talks about the game’s PC exclusive features and how the development used the power of Nvidia Gameworks to achieve various high-end effects.

Some of the more obvious ones include Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion or HBAO+ and Hairworks for realistically modelling different kinds of hair. PCSS Shadows are one of the niftier features as it gradually softens the edging on shadows as they stretch farther away from the object casting the shadow. Temporal anti-aliasing is also in full effect helping to smooth out the edges inherent in structures. Overall, this should settle any debate as to which platform Far Cry 4 will look the best on (if there was any debate in the first place).

Far Cry 4 releases on November 18th for North America and November 20th for Europe.
