Nvidia has announced its new flagship graphics card; continuing with the GTX 9xx naming series, the new card will be called the GTX 880Ti, and it will come with a staggering 6GB of on board GDDR5 memory. The 980Ti has a 336GB/s maximum bandwidth. Its display outputs are 1x HDMI, 1x DVI, and 3x DP, while it has two power connectors arranged as 1x 6pin and 1x 8pin. It will command a pretty penny too, as the entry price for this card is $650.

Nvidia claims that the GTX 980Ti will deliver the same kind of performance that Nvidia’s own, higher priced Titan X card does, at a far lower price; to sweeten the pot, they will also be offering a free copy of Batman: Arkham Knight to everybody who buys the card (the game, along with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is also available for free with other Nvidia GPUs).

“This is, by all rights, our flagship GeForce GTX GPU, built on the GM 200 chip,” Nvidia said, “and we designed it for a lot of the top-end PC features, such as 4K, VR, and G-Sync. These are the things that this card excels at.”

The introduction of this card means that the original 980 is no longer the highest end card of the range; Nvidia has dropped its price to $500.

The results are a wee bit disappointing...

Nvidia’s new generation of GPUs are almost here. Nvidia has decided to jump an entire number with these upcoming ones, skipping straight from the 700s to the 900s, so that would lead many to assume that there’s some sort of massive leap in performance and benefits, right?

Well… if these latest leaked benchmark scores for these graphic cards are to be believed, that doesn’t appear to be the case. There is definitely a perceptible performance benefit and improvement, but it is very minor. Almost disappointingly minor. It is, in fact, so minor that Nvidia probably won’t be able to charge a premium for these cards like they usually like to do with their products.

The benchmark results that you see above (which come to us courtesy of VideoCardz.com) show us that these cards are fairly unimpressive in the larger scheme of things. Sure, they will have their place appealing to a certain segment of the market, but as mentioned above, that can only happen if they don’t price themselves out of that market entirely.

Of course, this might all just be rumors, and the final cards may actually be fairly more impressive. Still, for now, maybe you’re better off waiting for more news, and as always, you have GamingBolt for that.
