The latest controllers on the market can now be used on the media player.

Regardless of what one may thinking about the gaming landscape of today, there are lots of options on the table for how you want to tackle your gaming hobby. One of those is the Nvidia Shield, a nice little box that can serve as a media player to buy and stream games, going hand in hand with Nvidia’s streaming service, GeForce Now. It seems you can also now play it with the latest controllers on the market.

The latest update for the Shield include support for the newest consoles from Sony and Microsoft, the DualSense PS5 controller as well as the Xbox Series controller for both Series X and Series S. On the Xbox side, they are largely identical, though the DualSense is a pretty radical redesign compared to previous DualShocks.

The Shield is an Android-based machine, so you can use it to access any of the Google Play titles, and with GeForce Now you can stream a lot of recent titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, etc. Now you have a few more controller options, too.

Core Nintendo games on Android, what a day.

NVIDIA and Nintendo will b releasing several of the latter’s classics from the Wii era on the Android powered Nvidia Shield for the Chinese market. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Punch-Out!!, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii will all be available on the Nvidia console.

They will also all run in HD- and while how motion controls will be handled for them is currently unknown (the Shield controllers do not feature Wii Remote style motion controls in any capacity), the short video clip accompanying the announcement showed a player playing the games with the standard Shield controller, which is… interesting.

While the Shield runs on Android, and feasibly, now these APKs could be brought over to other markets too, there is nothing to suggest that will happen officially– for now, it seems like this is a deal that Nintendo is keeping limited with Nvidia for its devices, specifically for China.

Plenty of people have likely heard about the Nvidia Shield, but at this point, you can’t be blamed if you’re not sure what the device is supposed to be. Once planned as a handheld, the Nvidia Shield is now a console and the company has started advertising the console hard.

The latest advertising push has the firm putting out a bunch of videos, including one dedicated to the GeForce Now cloud gaming service. This video claims the Shield will be able to offer 4X faster gameplay than the “current consoles.

“Instantly play on-demand PC games powered by supercharged NVIDIA Pascal GPUs in the cloud that drive 4X faster gameplay than “next-gen” game consoles. Log in for multiplayer gaming and online leaderboards anywhere there’s a SHIELD. The first month is even free for a limited time.”

Croteam’s philosophical puzzle adventure title The Talos Principle will be receiving an expansion pack this Spring with “Road to Gehenna”. The story will follow Elohim’s messenger Uriel as he embarks through what’s described as a “strange, hidden part of the simulation” to save the souls of the damned.

There will be four new episodes to look forward to in Road to Gehenna with new challenges as well. Co-writer Tom Jubert stated that, “We wanted to revisit the world of The Talos Principle and deliver new characters and a new world with its own history and culture. With Road to Gehenna we have created an all-new narrative which both branches off from and expands the original character’s journey.”

Steam users can look forward to the expansion this Spring while PS4 and Nvidia Shield users will receive it when The Talos Principle releases for both platforms later this year. Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments below.

This time, it's a console.

Nvidia has already released the Nvidia Shield handheld and the Nvidia Shield tablet- both of these were exceptional and exemplary products, that catered to a highly profitable niche very well. Now, they have gone ahead and announced the third product in the Nvidia Shield line. This time, it is an Android powered microconsole, powered by the Tegra X1.

With support for 4K streaming, the GRID cloud, Android TV, a remote, the controller, and some extremely impressive specs, including 520 Gigaflops, and 3 GB of RAM, it certainly looks impressive, but I have to say, I am a fair bit disappointed by this announcement. Nvidia had been hyping it up, and seeing that all of it amounted to an Android microconsole is underwhelming and anti climactic. Especially since the market is flooded with Android micro consoles, none of which really amounted to anything at all.

Of course, with support for the Nvidia GRID service, it will be able to play AAA games like Borderlands, so it certainly has that going for it. Let’s wait and see how it develops, at any rate.

Yay! No Half Life 3.

Although several million people have been literally begging for Half Life 3, Valve decides to totally ignore their requests and instead releases Half Life 2 on Nvidia Shield. I understand that it’s not bad thing but come on, at this point we rather have a new Half Life game. But anyways, Valve has decided that they will bringing one of the best games ever made as well as Portal to a largely unsuccessful Nvidia Shield.

Doug Lombardi Vice President of Marketing at Valve chipped in with his thoughts. “NVIDIA has done a remarkable job bringing both Half-Life 2 and Portal to SHIELD. We’re playing both games here on our SHIELDs and fans of both franchises can expect the same gameplay they’ve come to love on the PC,” he said.

Nvidia assures that the graphics performance are sharp and the controls will be well laid out. “Using the utmost care, we paid attention to every detail to ensure gamers get the full PC versions natively on Android. The graphic performance is sharp; the controls are precise and natural,” Nvidia said on its blog.

Personally, this announcement does not make me excited. But are you excited? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

-$50 Bucks

Not too long ago Nvidia revealed a June release date for their upcoming handheld system called Nvidia Shield. The product was also priced at $349 which is over-priced in my opinion.

Thankfully, consumers asked for a better price, and Nvidia decided to cut down on the cost by $50. The new price-tag for Nvidia Shield is now $299 instead of $349.99. The company also confirmed a release date of June 27th 2013.

Here is the official statement from their blog:

“We’ve heard from thousands of gamers that if the price was $299, we’d have a home run. So we’re changing the price of Shield to $299.

“If you’ve already pre-ordered Shield, you’ll be charged the new, lower price. You will only be charged $299 when the product ships.

“We want to get Shield into the hands of as many gamers as possible,” Nvidia stated.

It’s nice to see that Nvidia is listening to their consumers.

Let us know if you’ll be picking up Nvidia Shield on June 27th in the comments below.

Check back on GamingBolt for more updates.
