These games aren't the most accurate representation of Newton's laws but that's okay.

Preserving a sense of reality in games can be essential, especially when it comes to immersing your audience. However, the opposite also holds true as a game can break all laws of physics and still come across as a compelling experience. Let’s take a look at 15 such titles with inexplicable physics.

Goat Simulator

Explaining the sheer insanity that is Goat Simulator and it’s various add-ons would take too long. Playing fast and loose with physics is a given here, either due to numerous bugs or from the inanity of, say, a goat headbutting a gas station. There’s also that part where you do sick flips on a trampoline and lick a car to slingshot your goatly hide across the map. Need we say more?

Get them starting October 14.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch was a bizarre, whimsical, and basically pretty damn amazing game when it hit the PlayStation 4 and PC. If you loved the game, and wanted more of it, then Sony today announced on the PlayStation Blog that two new Octodad levels, the Shorts, will now be made available to all PlayStation 4 owners, for free. PlayStation 4 owners of the game can get these levels starting October 14.

Moreover, if you haven’t picked up the game yet, it will be on sale for a full week off starting October 14 and through october 21, for just 50% of its regular price- and you get the brand new levels for free when you buy the game as well. So it’s a pretty swell deal all around.

“After completing the story of Octodad: Dadliest Catch you might be hungry for more. Maybe you’re curious how Octodad and Scarlet got along after their fateful meeting aboard the sailing ship “Cod of War?” Perhaps you’d like to know what shenanigans Stacy and Tommy get up to with their lavish amounts of free time? You can explore both of these questions in the Octodad Shorts “Dad Romance” and “Medical Mess!” the developer said in the post on the Blog.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

The new PlayStation Store update is out, and the games in the spotlight this week are… well, they’re a mixed bag.

On the one hand, we have episodes 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead: Season 2 for the PS Vita, which you can buy for the regular price, or for a discounted price if you buy the Season Pass as well. “Watch Clementine’s story unfold as she struggles for survival after the events of Season One,” says Sony’s blog update on the European PS Blog. So, yeah, that’s a good deal indeed. People would want to purchase that.

On the other hand, we have Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Bizarre indeed. “Tons of characters spanning various arcs of the popular series are thrown into the mix, with gorgeous, colourful visuals and of course, over the top special moves and fabulous battle poses to top it all off,” says Sony. It could be worth a purchase anyway, to see just what the hell it is.

Also on offer this week is Octodad. “Being an octopus while hiding your identity as one from your family can be very tough,” the post says. Even tougher than being a father, in fact.

Any of those games interest you? Tell us in your comments!

Octodad: Dadliest Catch, the wacky and intriguing looking indie game that launched on PC to great acclaim earlier this year, will finally be launching on PS4 this coming Tuesday, April 22, Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog.

The game follows- stay with me here- the adventures of an ordinary dad and his family, except he happens to be an octopus, and he can’t quite let anyone find that out. The PS4 version of the game has support for new controller configurations like PlayStation Move, double PlayStation Moves, PlayStation Move plus Nav controller, as well as a local co-op mode, where you and your friends each take control of one of Octodad’s limbs to collectively unleash chaos.

Yeah, don’t ask me either. I don’t know why, but it sounds awesome.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch will be $14.99, discounted 20% off for PlayStation Plus users for the first week, making it $11.99 through April 29th. Stay tuned.

Young Horses has revealed that Octodad: Dadliest Catch will now be releasing in “early April” for the PlayStation 4. The game was originally to release in March and no reason has been given for why it’s been delayed.

Even more interestingly, the developer has revealed its stance on whether they will be bringing the game to the Xbox One. “Our word on the Xbox One version is, ‘We’re thinking about it.'” We’ll be seeing the first wave of ID@Xbox titles from March onwards, with games like Worms Battlegrounds and Nutjitsu confirmed. We at least know Dadliest Catch currently isn’t planned for the Wii U.

As for Octodad: Dadliest Catch, it’s already available for PC and Mac OS X with average critical praise accrued overall. It’s not as if PS4 users will be starving for games though with inFamous: Second Son arriving on March 25th and Dead Nation rumoured to be arriving for free through PlayStation Plus.

What are your thoughts on the delay and an Xbox One edition of Octodad: Dadliest Catch? Let us know in the comments.

Don't look for rationality or intelligence, accept the uncanny and enjoy.

Octodad tells the bizarre and non-sensible tale of an Octopus living his life as a man. It’s pure comedy from start to end and despite yourself questioning your own skills of the game, just remember one thing, there’s always someone else out there, and they’re sucking just as hard as you. That’s the point of the game, the control methods are not here for you or anybody else to master. They’re deliberately broken just so you can make an ass of yourself waking down the aisle of your Wedding day, which is where our story begins.

Opening up with a tutorial level in the groom’s changing room, the groom being you, you are tasked with familiarizing yourself with the controls, through the obscure tutorial of getting dressed, that’s right the Octopus wears clothes, don’t question it. Having to switch back and fourth between your arms and legs with the press of a button, you’re left thinking would this have been easier controlling all limbs at once, or would I have been in more pain than I bargained for. This is by design, the controls are set-up in such a way just so karma can you kick in the teeth as you laugh at your own tomfoolery.

"One thing that's so well thought out about this game is in its effortless approach to level design. Although be it very simple each level is set-up in a way that's totally designed to screw you over and challenge the unchallengeable."

After finally overcoming the conveniently laid out statues, ornaments, and furniture in your way, you realize something very crucial to the nature of the game. Under the rules that we immerse ourselves into the game’s obscene reality, we as so-called “Intelligent Beings” are living in serious denial if we fail to notice a sea-life creature masquerading as a man. I don’t know maybe it’s the Tenta-Beard that allows him to conceal his disguise so well.

One thing that’s so well thought out about this game is in its effortless approach to level design. Although be it very simple each level is set-up in a way that’s totally designed to screw you over and challenge the unchallengeable. As I stated previously the controls are purposely broken, and you throw that into the mix with the game’s environment of every object containing physical properties, then your in for one hell of a ride. The controls can feel like a mixed bag at times, you know they’re here to drive you crazy but at the same time they’re meant to make you laugh. It’s a pleasurable pain where physics and dead zones are turned on their heads. With that being said it’s best the game is played with a controller although a mouse and keyboard is optional, you’ll feel more in control whatever that means. Do or do not you will TRY and FAIL.

As the controls play a such a large role in how you play the game, you’re most likely asking yourself how does the story stack up? Well, surprisingly well. Yes Humans are ignorant and yes they understand “Oc-talian”?, “Octo-nese”?, “Octo-maican”? it doesn’t matter because underneath all your mumbling and bumbling they understand you. What’s more interesting however are the only few smart people in this world, Chefs and Scientists. Throughout the course of the game your goal seems to reside around one thing, remain undetected. As you go about your daily choirs of looking after the kids, making coffee, mowing the lawn, family days out, and just flat-out trying to be a good dad.

"Maybe if the extra time was taking to develop this suspicion meter and the rate at which people suspect your behavior, this could have been more of an important element to the game."

Now and then the “Normal” people as I like to call them are clearly aware of what’s going on, and they’re out hunting, or fishing if you will. There’s always gonna be a strange yet convenient excuse as to how you end up in these scenarios and they’re surprisingly plausible, as long as you accept the idea that an Octopus can cosplay as a Man. While the game plays on the silliness of other people in the game not everything here is a peaceful road to freedom and happiness. As you are tasked with being a dad and doing whatever it is dads are required to do with their families, the more badly you do it the more people will suspect your looney antics of doing such.

Each character in the game carefully has their eye on you and raises a level of suspicion that the player can keep track of in the form a bar, located at the bottom of the screen. The more it fills the more they’re onto you. My only gripe with this is that it wasn’t pushed far enough and despite your own clumsiness of knocking down every aisle in a supermarket, stepping on the cake at your own wedding, and destroying the gift shop of an aquarium, it wasn’t that much of a challenge to overcome the levels. Maybe if the extra time was taking to develop this suspicion meter and the rate at which people suspect your behavior, this could have been more of an important element to the game.

With that being said however it’s quite easy to recognize how this could have ruined the game, and caused a serious conflict to its purposely screwed up controls. I will say it’s up to the player if they feel the use of challenge was implemented well enough, but the catastrophic nature and silly use of actually navigating the character would need to strike a serious balance against it.

"The replay value of Octodad is fairly descent, free play mode allows you to replay completed levels on the basis of a timer, but the one you should have your eye on is the cooperative play."

From a visual standpoint Octodad: Deadliest Catch bares resemblance to quite a few well known sources from television-based entertainment. I will add to that statement beforehand that it is in noway ripping any of them off, just a spark in resemblance. Octodad carries a mix of Seth Macfarlane’s American Dad and Nickelodeon’s Old School classics Jimmy Neutron and Spongebob Squarepants. In a game that carries a narrative that’s as silly as this it seems like a perfect mix.

Graphically and performance wise the game keeps itself at a minimal for the PC settings available. It doesn’t suffer from any hiccups, screen-tearing, or glitches, and other than that it performs like a charm. Not much can be said on the other options available other than the choices for rebinding your keys, adjusting three levels of audio, and toggling on and off elements from the display. The replay value of Octodad is fairly descent, free play mode allows you to replay completed levels on the basis of a timer, but the one you should have your eye on is the cooperative play.

If you didn’t approach the game first-time round with the intention of partnering up then now is the time. Each player is given the opposite limbs to maneuver and it’s up to the two of you to work back and fourth and thinking as a team. This knocks you off your guard, and for those familiar with the Mind-Drifting technology from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, you’ll understand me when I say that this couldn’t arrive soon enough. Octodad: Deadliest Catch is a short and fishy game that blurs the lines of Strange-ville and Crazy Coot City. All said and done it’s best played with a companion if you’re looking to experience it within its fullest potential.

PS4 version expected to follow in March.

The rather humorous and striking indie title, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, will finally be hitting Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux later this month on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store.

The trailer above is also the first chance that we have gotten to take a look at the game’s story which has so far been kept tightly under wraps (our looks at the game so far have been limited entirely to what it is going to be conceptually and mechanically, with the only inkling that we have about the title’s story or setting coming from its punny and enigmatic title). Check it out and tell us what you think.

Lest you forget, this game is also due out on the PlayStation 4 soon- the developers were swift to respond to queries of that version, which was otherwise conspicuously absent from the announcements. The developers promised it would be targeting a March 2014 release date.

Head to your retail outlet today to sample (some) of the next generation.

We already talked about the PlayStation 4 kiosks that have begun to be established across retail outlets the world over. A recent set of images now indicates just what you can expect to play on said kiosks, and that includes demos for Knack, FIFA 14, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Contrast and more. Check out the images above.

It is important to point out that everything else showcased after the first image are the videos and ads you can access for other games. So if you were hoping to be able to play Watch Dogs or Killzone: Shadow Fall early, you’re out of luck.

The PlayStation 4 will be launching in North America on November 15th and in Europe on November 29th. Launch titles for the console include exclusives such as Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack while third party titles like FIFA 14, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and many more will also be available.

Young Horses managed to get their game running in only 3 weeks.

Young Horses struck gold with their indie title Octodad, even though it was intended as a joke project while the group was in college. Now the sequel Octodad: Dadliest Catch will be heading to to the PlayStation 4 exclusively, and SCEA’s Sean Coleman stated during a company conference at the GameStop Expo, the publisher granted Young Horses dev-kits for the console within 48 hours of contact.

“In our pursuit of trying to create the best place to play, PlayStation has worked alongside revolutionary indie developers to give them the tools needed to self publish to the PlayStaion Store quickly and easily. My favorite game is a game called Octodad. Octodad started off as a school project, but within 48 hours of contacting PlayStation they had received their PlayStation 4 dev kit, and had the game up and running in only 3 weeks. Amazing.

“Just like Octodad, a ton of other amazing indie experiences are coming exclusively first to PlayStation.”

Such experiences include Wasteland Kings, Hotline Miami 2, The Witness, Transistor and many, many more. The PlayStation 4 is due to launch on November 15th across the United States.
