It’s more troubling news in an industry that’s already reeling from rounds of layoffs, especially with the number of employees chiming in.

Blockchain development studio Gunzilla Games, popularly known for its NFT-riddled battle royale title Off the Grid, is facing a little turbulence. Various accusations have surfaced from employees about delayed salaries, with many payments seemingly pending for months.

According to the allegations levelled against Gunzilla by former VFX animator Paul Creamer, the studio has not honored invoices for his work as far back as October 2025. However, Creamer alleged on LinkedIn that the studio continues to expect consistent work and has been unable to reassure him about the possibility of recovering his money.

“I know I will never recover these lost wages, the damage is done. Gunzilla will get away with this without repercussion. This will happen again and again without end. Artists will continue to be taken advantage of, our passions will be continually exploited. After all, we’re lucky to do what we love aren’t we?

“The rest of the industry should know what has happened and what will continue to happen unless you organize and lock out these predatory leaders who seek only to enrich themselves and see you face down in the mud.”

VGC reported that many others stepped forward to show support in some cases, while others have spoken out about similar situations. Gameplay animator Rayan Tiraghan, who worked from July 2024 to February 2026, says, “This is horrible, I feel you, man. They also owe me some money.” Former UI programmer Riccardo Galdieri added to the allegations, stating, “This is much bigger than you can possibly believe. There are dozens of people with pending salaries from them. I made a post a while back, and they tried to silence me as well, but I got a lawyer involved and got what was owed to me. Don’t lose hope.”

Accusations of the studio attempting to silence dissenting voices continue to surface (as per Creamer’s latest post here), and it’s a sad state of affairs all around. It’s especially concerning when considered against the bigger picture of closures and layoffs, showcasing a gaming industry that’s turning out to be brutally hard on those who make it tick.

Gunzilla is yet to issue a response to the allegations. Here’s to hoping that the studio can earn back the trust and goodwill of its employees, although that might be an uphill task at this point.

The battle royale extraction shooter features PvEvP gameplay with a sci-fi twist and involves Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame.

Gunzilla Games’ Off the Grid, a battle royale extraction shooter with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp involved, is available now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It’s currently in early access and features the initial locations alongside different weapons and game modes. Check out the launch trailer below.

The campaign involves surviving on Teardrop Island, though there’s some metanarrative about the player being a “gamer” during all this. Featuring a mix of PvP and PvE, you can gather and extract gear, which unlocks abilities and cybernetics, including changing limbs, for use in battle.

Though initially promised to feature 150 players, the PC early access page specifies up to 60. Extraction Royale, or XR, appears to be the main mode for now. A roadmap for upcoming content and how long the title will be in early access has yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming months and years.

The Battle Royale 2.0 shooter releases this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC and offers a 60-hour narrative campaign.

Remember Off the Grid, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s first video game? During Gamescom 2023, developer Gunzilla Games revealed its gameplay for the first time. Check it out below, courtesy of IGN.

Off the Grid is set on Teardrop Island, and the future is distinctly cyberpunk. Though it’s a battle royale title with support for up to 150 players, it also offers a 60-hour campaign. You have different weapons and cybernetic augmentations, from a grapple to legs for faster sprinting. You can also ride vehicles and mow down other players with its turret.

In a press release, Gunzilla Games CEO Vlad Korolov said, “Off The Grid is evolving the battle royale genre for the industry. With the creative brilliance of Neill Blomkamp and the introduction of innovative gameplay mechanics, we’re offering unprecedented depth that complements the sheer thrill of battle royale competition.”

As you extract loot and unlock new abilities, the story gradually opens up (though in what way remains to be seen). Off the Grid doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s coming “soon” to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC in 2023. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Gunzilla Games' PvEvP battle royale is planned for this year on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, though a release date is still pending.

While the popularity of new battle royale titles has dulled, high-profile titles like Gunzilla Games’ Off The Grid are still in the works. The Battle Royale 2.0 shooter has received new screenshots via the PlayStation Store, seemingly showcasing some actual gameplay. Check them out below, courtesy of Gematsu on Twitter.

Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame serves as the chief visionary officer for the title, which takes place on the tropical Teardrop Island. A covert corporate war is occurring, and you can choose different factions to engage in matches with up to 150 other players in PvEvP combat.

However, a 60-hour narrative campaign also unfolds as one can dive into story missions or partake in a straight-up battle royale, extracting loot and unlocking abilities to improve your character. Off The Grid doesn’t have a release date, but it’s planned for launch in 2023 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Unreal Engine 5 continues to impress with its advanced graphical capabilities, and here are 15 games that use them to create photorealistic environments.

The Unreal Engine has been at the forefront of rendering techniques for some time now, and Unreal Engine 5 continues the trend with a comprehensive suite of features that allow development teams of all sizes to broaden their horizons and deliver better games than before. As you might already know, Unreal Engine 5 is gaining a ton of popularity within development circles – and we are already seeing plenty of great games utilizing this tech to create worlds that are almost indistinguishable from reality. On that note, we present 15 Unreal Engine 5 games that look just like real life.

Welcome To Pine Harbor

Welcome To Pine Harbor is an upcoming survival game from a small group of developers by the name of Vision Forge Team, and it looks to be packing some punch. Set against the backdrop of the ominous town of Pine Harbor, the game is set to present a story that’s equal parts scary and immersive. While not a lot of information is available at the moment, the developers have stated that the game is inspired by the likes of Silent Hill and Resident Evil which has us excited to see what’s in store. Of course, it’s incredibly atmospheric and makes good use of Unreal Engine 5’s detailed shadows and realistic lighting tech – and we will be checking it out when it releases sometime next year.
