Of course they do.

The term “infinite variations” may hold true for many things – weapons and enemies, for example – but it’s tougher to achieve with levels, more specifically dungeons. Nonetheless, in a Facebook post translated by Gematsu, Capcom has claimed that Deep Down, its upcoming PS4-exclusive online RPG, will feature feature a random dungeon generator which is capable of “infinite variations”.

The generator will mix certain aspects up such as treasure chests, warp point, height variations, traps, ladders and much more. Capcom is looking to incorporate “include as intended” functionality, which essentially means that everything will be put together in a way that make sense despite being random. You won’t find treasure chests in the middle of nowhere, and each trap will see monsters attack you.

Deep Down wants to capitalize on dungeons being the best part of an RPG, and it’s interesting to see all the elements come together the way they have. Will it make for a compelling and unique experience though? We’ll find out in the coming months.

So really, you ARE being watched.

Capcom has released a new video for the PlayStation 4 exclusive online RPG Deep Down, which looks at the player’s room and explains some of its functions. We also get a look at the AI “Odette”, who is in control of the room.

Deep Down alternates between being set in the future of 2094 while allowing players to travel to a virtual reality full of dragons, dungeons, monsters and other fun activities. The room itself makes up the modern portion of the game, and you can place furniture inside of it, decorating it according to your whims. Odette even explains each piece of furniture, so there’s more to the process than simple window dressing (in some cases, literally).

If decoration isn’t your thing, then Capcom will be revealing some new details on monsters within the game and will even showcase enemies that weren’t seen in the TGS 2013 trailer. Stay tuned as more details for Deep Down arise.

What's up with that modern apartment? Plenty, it seems.

Remember during the Tokyo Game Show trailer for Capcom’s Deep Down when a modern apartment was showcased, wherein players could access the “fantasy world” of dungeons and dragons? Not a lot of information was revealed about the same, but Capcom took to Twitter to fix that.

In a series of tweets (translated by DualShockers), Capcom stated that, “I would like to briefly introduce the 2094 stage called “the room” today. The room is a two-floors structure, and it’s literally the place where the hero (the player) lives in New York. The screenshot shows the second floor.

“Interior furniture like the Toro and Kuro (the two mascots of PlayStation Japan) shown in the TGS trailer can be placed freely in the room. You can also decorate the walls with free wallpapers and posters. It’s thought as a place to come back to and ‘heal’ after the fierce fighting in the dungeons.

“I would like to explain a little more about the room next week, and you’ll also see the video “interior furniture” about it, that is being prepared. So stay tuned!”

An online RPG, Deep Down is currently exclusive to the PlayStation 4. How will this “interior furniture” work out? We’ll find out next week.

Lord British returns to the fold with a fantasy RPG setting.

Industry legend Richard Garriott, who created the award winning Ultima franchise, has announced a Kickstarter for his first game in…well, a while. Shroud of the Avatar will mark a return to the fantasy RPG settings that made Ultima famous, and is being billed as “the first installment of Richard’s new vision” which will focus more on player choices and discovery.

The famed Lord British’s next venture will feature a full interactive world with its own original lore (with cultural histories and language) along with physical components such as a cloth map and trinkets. Shroud of the Avatar is being billed as a multiplayer online game, but can be played offline in single player.

So far the project has 8,370 Backers with $490,587 pledged of the $1,000,000 goal with only 28 days to go. Considering the sheer amount of fame and repute that Garriott’s name carries, it won’t be long before the goal is met and crossed.
