Heel-face turns are nothing new in pop culture, be it movies, books, TV shows and yes, even video games. Still, there’s something poignant about a former enemy joining your ranks for the greater good. Let’s take a look at 15 times an enemy became an ally in video games.

Panda King and Dimitri – Sly Cooper 3

Panda King and Dimitri Lousteau have both had run-ins with the Sly Gang before, the former notorious for helping to steal the Thievius Raccoonus. Still, old enemies become new allies in Sly Cooper 3. After the gang rescue King’s daughter and retrieve diving gear belonging to Dimitri’s grandfather, the two former villains are recruited for the Cooper Vault heist.

Orcs Must Die 2! will get a new booster pack called Fire & Water, and it features three brand new levels and new endless mode conversions playable in single-player and co-op.

War Mages will also get access to new traps. There are also a lot of traps like The Web Spinner which is a wall trap that ensnares hallways full of enemies in a sticky tangle of webs, slowing them down. The packs will be available on August 29th for $4.99.

Ceiling Darts turn your fortress into a temple of doom for orcs, dropping from the ceiling to fire deadly darts in every direction. If the orcs make it past your defenses the first time around, you can give them another dose of pain with the new Floor Portal. Place the floor portal anywhere on the ground. Unsuspecting enemies who step on it will be magically teleported back to the beginning of the level!

Hellish new Fire Lords and Fire Elementals crumble when killed, leaving behind dangerous Firelings that will hunt the player down and explode when they get too close! Slippery Water Lords and Water Elementals dwindle into pools of water when killed, but don’t count them out of the fight! When Waterlings find dormant puddles, they’ll absorb the stagnant water and grow into new Water Elementals!

Fire & Water Booster Pack Features:

New Levels to Defend – The fight for survival isn’t over yet! Battle your way through three exciting new levels in single-player or co-op – Traffic Jammed, Double Decker, and The West Wing.

New Endless Mode Conversions – Think you’ve mastered Endless Mode? Think again! The Fire & Water booster pack features three new Endless Mode level conversions to hold your ground on – The Library, Double Decker, and The West Wing.

Terrifying New Enemies – Prepare for a whole new challenge when you face off against the harrowing new Fire and Water Elementals!

Exciting New Traps – Add some deadly new defenses to your Spellbook with the Web Spinner, Ceiling Darts, and the Floor Portal!

New Bonus Skull Definition – Can you hold the invading monsters at bay without traps? Prove your mettle by playing exclusively with weapons and you’ll add another bonus skull to the pile at the end of each level.

I quite liked the first Orcs Must Die! game. Its sequel brings a lot of improvements to the core game and with the addition of a co-operative mode, the developers mean business. The addictive nature of the first game was something that stood out, and its the same here as well, the game is damn fun to play especially with a friend.

The merciless Orc slaying gameplay which requires you to place clever traps to kill them in ingenious ways never gets old, and you have a lot of traps and other things at your disposal along with a competent upgrade system and a lot of enemy variety. So it looks like a true sequel, with every area massively improved with decent production values.

However, one are which wasn’t that impressive is the visuals. It doesn’t look poor but there is hardly any visual upgrades that sets the game apart over the first one. If you’ve played the first game, then it’s one area which won’t really surprise you a lot but the main thing to take here is that, the gameplay reigns supreme and that doesn’t disappoint at all. The enemy and character design is quite good but the overall settings does not inspire a lot of creativity when it comes to art design.

There are two characters at your disposal this time around; both with different play styles and strategies for you to exploit which brings a sense of replayability to the game. Both have their own styles though; one a melee character and another, a ranged one. The sorceress allows you to attack your foes from far away and also use awesome abilities to confuse them and make them attack each other.

The story of Orcs Must Die 2! isn’t that great but it’s actually made in mind to foster co-op mode which is undoubtedly the star of the show in the game. In fact, it’s so good that you actually forget all other minor deficiencies in the game. The levels are also designed quite well and executed well. The Orcs and other enemies like trolls and what not come through the rift which was opened again – you’ll know why when you play. You can lay plenty of traps, buy new ones, upgrade them on the fly and it really challenges you sometimes to think fast.

You can also play the campaign solo but when you have a co-op mode, you know what to pick for obvious reasons. There’s also a new mode called Endless which allows you to rack up the amount of skulls in your inventory. It’s like a horde mode as the name suggests, and can become quite fun and frantic. This tower defense style of game play is most enjoyable and its best in Orcs Must Die 2! The game also has bland uninspired sound with repetitive dialogues which can get on your nerves after a while.

One thing is clear though, the game has a lot of content to keep you busy for a while, and provides a satisfying co-operative mode to enjoy slaying Orcs and bunch of random enemies with your friends. As a sequel, the level of improvement on offer here is satisfactory but with a few minor quirks which frankly shouldn’t matter a lot.

This game was reviewed on the PC.

Robot Entertainment today announced Orcs Must Die 2.

“In 2011, we implored players to kill the orcs,” said Robot Entertainment CEO Patrick Hudson. “As many as possible. Yet, only 3.4 billion orcs have been slaughtered to date. The only way we will get to a respectable orc death toll is by adding another killing machine and cooperative play. Bring a friend and destroy the orcs!”

Orcs Must Die! 2 Features:

* New Campaign – Orcs Must Die! 2 features a full campaign that you can play in single-player or with a friend in co-op. Choose to play the campaign as the War Mage, a headstrong hero who charges into danger, or play as the more nuanced Sorceress, a new hero who keeps enemies at bay with mind-control and magic.

* More Enemies – An army of vile new creatures is set to pour through the rifts, and they’ve brought all of your favorite trap-fodder from the original Orcs Must Die! along with them!

* More Defenses – Orcs Must Die! 2 has an enormous armory of new and classic defenses, including an all new assortment of magical trinkets. Use your new spellbook to buy defenses and upgrades the way you choose to, building up your arsenal based on how you play the game.

* New Upgrade System – The skull system has been completely redesigned. You will always earn skulls for replaying levels, and the skulls can be spent on multiple persistent upgrades for each of your defenses.
