The Walking Dead: Betrayal will have eight players working together to survive, while also keeping an eye on who could potentially be the traitor.

The Walking Dead is getting a new video game adaptation in the form of The Walking Dead: Betrayal. The game will be a social deception multiplayer title in the vein of Among Us, and is being developed by Other Ocean Interactive—the studio behind Project Winter.

Much like Among Us, The Walking Dead: Betrayal will see players working together to complete challenges and survive, all the while keeping in mind that some of the survivors might be traitors out to get everyone else killed.

Players will have to work together, making use of communication, as well as their crafting and cooking abilities to survive. Interestingly, players who are killed in the course of a match aren’t taken out. Rather, they can come back as a walker and get their revenge.

The Walking Dead: Betrayal has a trailer you can check out below, giving us a look at the visuals of the game as well as the kind of tone you can expect in its social deduction-centric gameplay.

The Walking Dead: Betrayal is slated for release on PC, and will be seeing a closed beta on August 10. Players can sign up for the closed beta on the game’s Steam page.

As it turns out, social deception and desperate survival mix rather well together.

Project Winter first launched for PC back in early 2019, and within the small but dedicated fanbase it has garnered since then, it’s built up a solid reputation as a fun social deception game that mixes elements of that genre with survival mechanics rather well. Now, in an industry where Among Us’ massive popularity has shot the social deception genre full of renewed life, Project Winter comes to Xbox consoles, hoping to rake in even more players. And while the very nature of the game might mean that it probably won’t end up having as much mass appeal as its developers might want, there’s little doubt that those who can find their feet here will be satisfied with what’s on offer.

Every match in Project Winter sees a group of eight players stuck on top of a snow-capped mountain, and while the bulk of that group is made up of Survivors who’re trying to call for help and get off the mountain alive, there are also a few Traitors in the group whose sole purpose is to sabotage those attempts and ensure that nobody leaves with their lives intact. The setup is classic social deception affair, but what sets Project Winter apart is its survival elements.

"While the very nature of the game might mean that it probably won’t end up having as much mass appeal as its developers might want, there’s little doubt that those who can find their feet here will be satisfied with what’s on offer."

Seeing as you’re trapped on top of a frigid mountain, it makes sense that there’s no shortage of ways to get killed. There is, of course, the ever-present threat of the unknown traitors within your group who might corner you and take you out when no one else is around, whether that’s through deviously placed traps or through sheer brute force and multiple swings of an axe. On top of that, however, you also constantly have to keep an eye on your hunger and your warmth, and if ever one of those meters hits zero, you begin losing health. The mountaintop is also home to wildlife, from wolves to bears, which means exploring is also never quite safe- though getting a healthy chunk of meat off a dead animal might just prove to be the difference between life and death when you’re running low on food.

Global events also sweep the map every now and then, and you never want to get caught outside when a blizzard comes rolling in, which not only makes that warmth meter deplete that much faster, but also reduces visibility, making it more difficult to find your way around. A central hut in the map serves as your hub location where you can return to warmth (unless you have the resources to build a fire) and to cook food, while the tools and weapons and other items that you need to craft to complete objectives can also only be crafted at a crafting table in the hut.

Clearly, there’s a lot going on in Project Winter, which means the game does stave off the feeling of monotony across matches very well (up to a certain point, at the very least). Having to contend with surviving against the elements, properly playing the role of either a survivor or a traitor, collecting resources to help craft new tools and weapons, and constantly managing your hunger and warmth meters means that you’re constantly juggling a lot of balls in the air at any given time. That level of depth is, as you might guess, a big plus. While those looking for casual fun – for Among Us wrapped in a different skin – might be put off, players who’re looking to sink their teeth into something meatier will find plenty to keep them busy.

"While those looking for casual fun – for Among Us wrapped in a different skin – might be put off, players who’re looking to sink their teeth into something meatier will find plenty to keep them busy."

That can also be a bit of a double-edged sword though. Having to balance your attention across all of those attentions is a key part of the experience, but it also means that you can feel a bit too overwhelmed at times, especially in the early hours when you’re still getting to grips with all the systems and mechanics. Perhaps having separate modes that put their focus on specific parts of the experience is something that the developers should consider, not only to add more variety to the experience, but also so that those who want to, say, focus on the social deception more than the survival elements, have the option to do that.

Another area where Project Winter needs work is the balancing, in that the game tends to favour Traitors very heavily. From easier communication to easier (and almost instant) to powerful weapons, from having much more efficient means of traversing the map to just having a lot more ways to get hands on crucial resources, Traitors seem to almost have an unfair advantage, to the extent where matches where Survivors actually manage to win the match by successfully completing their objectives, calling for help, and then escaping from the map before the Traitors have killed every single one of them are extremely rare.

I also wonder how much longevity Project Winter is going to have in its current state. Things such as global events and unique roles within groups do bring in some welcome dynamism, but the game doesn’t see a lot of changes in other areas such as the environments you’re traversing, while your objectives also generally tend to be similar in nature to each other (especially when you’re playing as a Survivor), which means playing Project Winter for a sustained period of time doesn’t seem like such an attractive prospect right now. Hopefully, the developers will keep adding to the game to inject more variety in the experience in order to encourage players to stick around.

"Traitors seem to almost have an unfair advantage, to the extent where matches where Survivors actually manage to win the match by successfully completing their objectives, calling for help, and then escaping from the map before the Traitors have killed every single one of them are extremely rare."

Meanwhile, where the visuals and performance are concerned, there’s little to complain about here. Project Winter has a very simplistic look, but it suits the game and its aesthetic well, and in my time with the game, I haven’t run into any performance issues either. One small console-specific issue that is worth mentioning is how imprecise and sluggish aiming with projectile weapons feels, which can be a pretty major knock against you if you find yourself playing against PC players (which happens often, thanks to full cross-play support). Thankfully though, the game doesn’t suffer from any connectivity issues, which, of course, is crucial in an experience such as this one.

Project Winter is, on the whole, a solid, enjoyable multiplayer experience. Its blend of survival and social deception is executed largely well, and though its various mechanics can often pile on top of each other to overwhelm the player, when all of them are working in harmony, it’s hard not to have fun. Here’s hoping Other Ocean keep supporting the game and building upon it, because the core idea here is one that can flourish with a little more work.

Sir Daniel's second adventure could be getting the remake treatment as well.

Last Halloween, we got to see the return of the cult classic MediEvil with a ground-up remake of the game on PS4. The game follows Sir Daniel as he’s resurrected and battles evil as a literal skeleton of his former self. The franchise was a short-lived one on the original PlayStation, but has seen revivals from time to time with re-releases of the first title. However, there was a sequel as well, one that’s been less revisited- but that may change if a tease from the original game’s composer is anything to go by.

On his official Twitter, composer Andrew Barnabas responded to a tweet from a MediEvil fan account simply saying “2.” His answer was coy, saying “actually…” before seeming to stop just short of saying that something was happening with the second game. He also replied to a user who said the recent remake wasn’t successful and therefore wouldn’t lead to a remake of the sequel, saying that was incorrect. Sony has said little about the first MediEvil remake since it released.

MediEvil 2 takes place in a Victorian London setting. There’s been less love in general directed its way than for its predecessor, but for fans who enjoyed revisiting Sir Daniel’s first adventure, it’ll surely be a welcome return. Whether or not Barnabas is just teasing or there is more to this is something we’ll just have to see. Hopefully, though, Sir Daniel’s resurrection continues.

Earlier today, Sony mistakenly spilled the beans on a demo for the upcoming remake of MediEvil, when it prematurely went live on the Japanese PlayStation Store. At their recent State of Play broadcast, the same was officially confirmed. The demo is going to be available on the PS Store later today.

It’s going to be a limited time demo though, so if you’re curious about how the remake is shaping up and want to give it a whirl, you’re going to have to do so in a limited window- you have until October 6. The trailer announcing the demo also showed off a fair bit of gameplay footage, so you might want to check it out. Sony did not specify what the demo entails, but thanks to the aforementioned leak, we know it’s an 11.6 GB download, and includes Dan’s Crypt and the Graveyard as playable sections.

MediEvil recently wrapped up development, and launches for the PS4 on October 25. To check out how the remake’s visuals compare to the PS1 original, head on over here.

Expect an announcement during State of Play later today.

The MediEvil remake is launching for the PS4 later next month, but it looks like Sony intends on letting players get some hands-on time with it beforehand to convince them to get onboard when the game launches in full.

As spotted by users over on Reddit, a demo for the upcoming remake recently went live on the Japanese PlayStation Store. It turns out it was a mistake though, because the demo and its page have since been removed y Sony. That said, some users on ResetEra were pretty quick to download it and give it a whirl, giving details on what it’s all about. The demo’s file size is apparently 11.16 GB (pretty big for a demo), and includes Dan’s Crypt and the Graveyard as playable sections, after which you’re given an option to purchase the full game.

There’s a very good chance that Sony will be announce – and perhaps even releasing right there and then – this demo for MediEvil later today during their State of Play presentation. As for the game itself, it recently wrapped up development and is out for the PS4 on October 25. Head on over here to check out some gameplay, or over here to take a look at some screenshot comparisons with the original PS1 title.

While never quite having the kind of following or legendary status as Spyro or Crash Bandicoot, many remember fondly the adventures of Sir Daniel in the MediEvil games on the original PlayStation. A remake in the vein of those other two franchises is due out next month, and now it seems Sir Daniel is ready for business as the game has gone gold.

Developers Other Ocean Interactive confirmed via Twitter that production had wrapped up on the game. It follows Sir Daniel as he battles evil after being unexpectedly resurrected from death. Originally released on the first PlayStation, the game is an adventure-action hack and slash where you take on hordes of magic-infused enemies under the control of Daniel’s arch nemesis, the sorcerer Zarok.

MediEvil will release exclusively for PlayStation 4 on October 25th. If you’re curious about the massive jump in graphics compared to the original release, take a look thorough here.

The remake is looking like an impressive improvement.

The 1998 PS1 cult classic MediEvil is getting remade, and that remade is launching soon, but we have not, for some reason, seen an awful lot of gameplay footage. While we still don’t have more gameplay footage to gawk at here, what we do have is a collection of screenshots – courtesy of the PlayStation blog – that show just how radically the remake is improving upon the original release’s visuals.

That the game looks completely different and much better is to be expected of course- this is a remake, not a remaster, so it’s not like the developers have just upped the resolution, sharpened the textures, and sent the game out to stores. What is great to see is that the style and general look of the original seems to have been preserved very well, and the development team at Other Ocean Emeryville has taken this opportunity to use the technology at its disposal to really do justice to the game. Take a look below.

Recently, a new behind-the-scenes video was also released, giving us a brief glimpse of the development of the game and how it’s coming along. Take a look through here. You can also check out some off-screen gameplay footage through here. MediEvil launches for the PS4 on October 25.

The remake's developers talk about the process of bringing the PS1 cult classic back to life.

The 1998 PlayStation 1 cult classic MediEvil is in line for its ground-up remake later this year, and though it might not be the most high-profile game one could think of, the original title has enough of a dedicated fanbase for the upcoming remake to still be a game that many are looking forward to.

In anticipation of its upcoming launch, Sony has put up a developer diary that takes us behind the scenes at Other Ocean Interactive – the developers of the remake. The video talks about how its balancing replicating the original game and changing things up, while also discussing things such as being able to do things that the original game wanted to do but was unable to due to various reasons. The developers in the video also speak about how they’ve been in contact with various developers who worked on the original game, and how that has aided the remake’s development. Take a look below.

MediEvil is out on the PS4 on October 25th. You can view some off-screen gameplay footage from it through here.

We get the most extended look at the remake yet.

With the success of PlayStation remakes/remasters featuring Crash and Spyro, it’s easy to forget another icon of the era is on the verge of getting a similar treatment. While Sir Daniel isn’t as well known as those two, the MediEvil titles still have a following, and Sony made many of them happy when the remake of the first title was announced. Now, we get some off-screen gameplay to give us an idea of how it’ll play.

We haven’t gotten a lot of looks at the gameplay yet, but the Brazilian site Voxel released video from Game XP 2019 at Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that gives us our biggest taste yet. It’s in Portuguese, but the star is the off-screen footage of the game being played. Those familiar with the original game will get nostalgic, as it seems they’ve captured the feel quite well. It also seems much smoother overall than the snippets of gameplay we got in the reveal trailer.

MediEvil releases exclusively on PlayStation 4 on October 25th.

Sony’s remake of MediEvil for the PS4 not only received a new story trailer with gameplay during State of Play, but also a release date. It’s out on October 25th, just in time for Halloween. Check out the trailer below, which showcases the return of Sir Daniel in all of his undead glory.

Originally released in 1998 for the PlayStation One, MediEvil is an action adventure title where Sir Daniel Fortesque is resurrected when his arch-nemesis Zarok returns. Having died a rather embarrassing death in their last battle, Sir Daniel will use this opportunity to live up to his legend. The trailer showcases some of the fetching visual work done by Other Ocean Interactive, which will support 4K resolution on the PS4 Pro.

MediEvil wasn’t the only major title showcased during the presentation. Square Enix dropped a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake as well. It featured Aerith, more combat, and a tease for classic villain Sephiroth. More information will be coming in June, which is when E3 2019 will be taking place.
