Outlast: Whistleblower Releases on May 6th for PC/PS4

You just can’t keep a madman down. Red Barrels has finally nailed down a release date for the upcoming Outlast DLC, titled Whistleblower. It will be out on PC and PS4 on May 6th and retail at $8.99. Did we mention there’s a freaky new trailer for DLC? Check it out above.

Whistleblower takes place before the events of the main game and has you playing as the man who leaked information on the experiments happening in the Mount Massive Asylum to journalists the world over, which includes Miles Upshur. There’s no bloody aftermath to explore though – in Whistleblower, you’ll have a front row seat to the insanity unfolding in the asylum. Will it consume you? Or will you survive (we’re counting on the first option)?

Outlast: Whistleblower DLC Out in April, New Screen Released

Following the absolutely terrifying first person experience of Outlast, developer Red Barrels is prepping the launch of the Whistleblower DLC which will be releasing this month for PC and PS4.

On the developer’s blog, a short summary of the game is given. “Whistleblower will let you play as Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract with Murkoff and the man who emailed journalists around the world – including Miles – at the beginning of Outlast.

“Spending a couple of weeks at Mount Massive, during which he was unable to even talk to his wife and son in Boulder thanks to strict security protocols, Waylon developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients. Identifying with those poor souls fueled Waylon’s anger, and set the stage for his unmasking of Mount Massive’s rotten core.”

Outlast: Whistleblower DLC Revealed, Prequel to Original Campaign

In case you didn’t know, Red Barrel’s Outlast is one of the most terrifying things ever (read our review here to know why). It’s also one of the better story-telling experiences, with either the most poetic or ambiguous ending out there, and you won’t know everything unless you keep track of journal entries and notes. What exactly led to the collapse of Mount Massive by an army of nightmares? The Whistleblower DLC aims to answer that.

As the game’s DLC, Whistleblower will be set before the events of Outlast. You’ll be playing as the man who tipped journalist Miles Upshur into coming to the asylum in the first place and starts out a few minutes before the catastrophic events of the first game. So not only will you be battling mutated inmates and the ever-lovable Chris Walker but you’ll discover exactly how they became what they are.
