Also states that developers for the Android console could be seeing millions in revenue by year-end.

Depending on who you talk to, the Android-based OUYA is either the greatest thing ever or a huge disappointment. However, OUYA Inc. CEO Julie Uhrman believes it’s only a matter of time before developers start millions of dollars in revenue. In fact, as early as the end of 2013.

Speaking to The Verge, Uhrman countered criticisms against the underwhelming sales of the device stating that 27 percent of all OUYA users have purchased a game, with 13 of the top 20 games having 8 percent of players willing to pay. “I think there are a lot of social and mobile app developers that would kill for an 8 percent attach rate on a platform that’s 30 days old.

“These numbers will grow as more gamers pick up consoles, and as we attract more developers, and I believe that by the end of the year, we’ll see a few developers telling us they’ve made more than a million dollars on Ouya.

Addressing criticisms from those who have seen meagre returns on developing games for the OUYA, Uhrman also stated that, “To say developers can’t make money on Ouya – I take offense to that. I’m sure the creators of TowerFall and Hidden in Plain Sight would take offense to that. The console has only been out for a month, and developers have only had access to the hardware for about 6 months. We really like what we see so far, and so do developers and gamers.”

“Five days after launch, reviews came out and people were writing us off. If every company that got mixed results right out of the gate would have given up, we wouldn’t have an iPhone, we wouldn’t have an iPod.”

Having problems with the stock controller? Use your DualShock 3 instead.

Instructions have recently emerged on the OUYA forums about setting up a PlayStation 3 controller with the console. Given how the biggest complaint with the console has always been the controller, especially when it comes to buttons getting stuck in the inner shell, it’s a relief to know that you can at least pair one of the better controllers available with it.

Of course, for games that use the touchpad, it won’t be possible. However, for the majority of titles, you can either plug the DualShock 3 into the OUYA directly using a mini USB cable and then hit the Home button or just reset the OUYA and then hit the Home button to use the controller wirelessly.

So far, the OUYA has been seeing a great reception. Within the same day as releasing at retailers, the console has been sold out. We’ll see how much further the Android powered marvel goes in the coming months.

CEO Julie Uhrman talks about "greater than expected demand" and fixing controller issues.

Originally scheduled to release on June 4th, the Android-based OUYA console is now scheduled to release on June 25th.

Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman recently stated that, “We’ve had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks – three weeks – which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June.”

It’s also been reported the console managed to score $15 million in additional funding leading up to its release.

Considering the reviewers of OUYA consoles that backers who pledged towards the Kickstarter campaign are kind of lukewarm, it makes one wonder just how the device will perform at retail.

Regardless, the company is surging ahead, with Uhrman recently addressing controller issues that cause the buttons to get stuck under the faceplate (the solution, it turns out, is larger button holes). Thankfully, this has been implemented so that the corrected controllers ship in time for the retail launch.

Act fast, and you may just see your name and game heavily publicized for the OUYA's launch.

OUYA Inc. has announced that game submissions have been opened for the upcoming Android-based console. Even better, those games that have been submitted will become playable on the console’s launch date of March 28th.

Providing further incentive for developers, Kellee Santiago recently posted that, “We will take the top three games (by total gamer time spent playing during the first six weeks that OUYA is in gamers’ hands), and… make you famous.

“OUYA is investing in a series of short documentaries to tell developers’ stories. We want to share your process, ups and downs, everything that goes into making the thing that you love – and that game we love to play.

“If your game is one of the top three in the first six weeks, then one of those documentaries will be about you. We will rely heavily on these documentaries to tell people about OUYA, and we’ll share them far and wide as part of our launch marketing in June leading up to the holidays – everyone will know your name, your game, and where to play it.”

It will be part of a reported 450 games arriving on the console.

Though OUYA Inc. CEO Julie Uhrman wasn’t too candid recently on just how many developers will be supporting the upcoming Android-based OUYA console, she announced today that Psychonauts developer Double Fine Productions and Words With Friends creator Paul Bettner are on-board with their support.

While the former will release their recent 2D side-scrolling adventurer The Cave for the console, along with their recently funded Kickstarter adventure game (codenamed “Reds”) while the latter is reportedly planning his own titles for the same which will be handled by a new development studio called Verse. Verse will focus specifically on OUYA development after setting up shop.

The amazing thing is Uhrman stated that more than 450 games will be releasing for the OUYA. Of course, this is a very subjective figure – it doesn’t indicate whether they’d be arriving at launch or within the first year or the OUYA’s entire lifespan. Still, it’ll be good to see some familiar faces when the console launches in June.

Despite backers receiving their consoles early, retail launch will follow shortly after.

Android console OUYA, fully funded by Kickstarter, will be launching in several US retail stores this June. This includes the big name players like Target, Best Buy and GameStop, and comes about three months after backers of the campaign receive their consoles in March.

Pre-orders are currently on and the OUYA will be sold at $99.99 with one touchpad controller; additional controllers will cost $49.99 each.

Speaking the Wall Street Journal, CEO Julie Uhrman stated that, “We want to support Ouya as best we can, both online and in physical retail, making sure there’s visibility for the product, to see content and demo the box.

“Those are all conversations we’re having with retailers. Retail partners of this size don’t just jump into business with every company that has something to sell. We’re providing something that has responded so well to gamers and developers.”

Uhrman didn’t say much about how many developers were on board but promised “inventive and creative [content] that has never been on the television. This announcement…is that we now have more than just dreamers behind us, we have established companies that do their due diligence that believe there’s an opportunity for bringing great content back to the television.”

The Android console fueled by Kickstarter, the Ouya, will be seeing release this year and holds a ton of potential. However, the developer, OUYA Inc., has recently announced that the default controller will be seeing some changes based on feedback from the dev console release.

In an official post, the company wrote, “The controller’s the thing. We’ve been working from the beginning to make the controller experience as honed, fast and precise as possible.

“Since the release of the OUYA Dev Console last month, developers around the world have sent us a ton of emails, comments, videos and forum posts… all about our controller. A lot of the feedback underscored things we were already changing, some comments were totally new, but ALL were great to hear.”

Some of those changes include a cross-style D-pad, rubberized tops to the thumbsticks, a more responsive touchscreen, two triggers, and a more secure battery bay.

As the company states, “We’re serious here. We want to make OUYA the best it can possibly be. So don’t stop telling us what you think — we can’t do it without you.”
