<p>Doom 4 is in development right now, or at least based on a latest tweet by Carmack, we think it is. Carmack said that the next iteration of Doom will support AMD Radeon 7970&#8217;s, Partially Resident Texture feature.</p>
<p>This is what he <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ID_AA_Carmack">said</a>: &#8220;7970 hardware virtual textures are limited to 32k, so it requires layout changes to avoid tex crossing. Doom will support.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now, yes, we know you don&#8217;t know what that is, so check out the nifty little image below.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/partially-resident-textures.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-61637" src="https://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/partially-resident-textures.jpg" alt="" width="505" height="284" srcset="https://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/partially-resident-textures.jpg 1024w, https://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/partially-resident-textures-300x168.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left">PRT is supposed to be an expected feature in next-gen game engines, so it is really impressive that Doom 4 will support that. It shows that id haven&#8217;t been demoralized yet after the poor performance of Rage, and are going to come out all guns blazing with Doom 4.</p>
