Party Chat on the Xbox One and on the Xbox App for Windows 10 has received a server-side update allowing for support of 12 people in a single party. The update is expected to be usable later today so keep an eye out for that. There won’t be any system update since the change is on Microsoft’s end, which means no download required.

Xbox One Preview Program members taking part in the New Xbox One Experience can also look forward to some new features today. These include a streamlined Game DVR, animated avatars, an updated menu which provides quick access to common actions, new settings in the Guide, more options for Party text chat and much more. Hit up Major Nelson’s official post to learn more.

The New Xbox One Experience will be going live in November and brings a ton of different features including backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 titles. Are you looking forward to it? If you’re in the Preview Program, what are your thoughts on it thus far? Let us know in the comments.

Also boots when you try to join another party chat.

An odd new error code, called NP-31952-0, has popped up for the PlayStation 4 and affects those looking to create a party chat or joining other party chats. Not only will you not be able to create a party chat but you’ll be booted out of the ones you join.

Discussed here on Reddit, the error can seemingly be corrected by making “an Internet connection test in the Settings menu ‘network’. After testing your connection it should work to create or join a party chat.”

However, the lack of an official solution from Sony is somewhat odd. The user facing the problem in question stated that he had “reset my router/modem and restarted my PS4 and now am getting error NP-32287-2.” So clearly some common solutions aren’t working out, and it appears the problem is being faced by a few other people.

Have you encountered error NP-31952-0 yet while trying to create a new party chat? Let us know in the comments.

Major Nelson doesn't have a timeline as of yet.

Some Xbox One users have been complaining about being unable to chat with others playing different games. A recent thread on Reddit pointed this out, while also observing that the Xbox 360’s Party system was far better.

Director of programming for Xbox Live Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb addressed this concerns, stating that, “Had a meeting today about much of this and I can say that things will get better. I can’t offer a timeline of a list of what will be addressed first, but we are aware of the issue and things will get better.”

Given that the console is barely a month old, it only makes sense to give Microsoft some time to work out matters, right? Of course, how long it will take is still up for debate so stay tuned for more information as the situation develops. Meanwhile, how happy are you with the Xbox One? Let us know below.

Some brief insights on correcting issues and not messing with dev settings on your console.

The Xbox One is available worldwide across 13 territories, and it has its issues. For instance, there’s a complaint about the some users not being able to access Party Chat while in a party.

A confirmed Xbox One developer addressed the problem on Reddit, stating that, “You might have a NAT issue” and referred him to the following. What if NAT is open? “In that case, it might be someone else in your party. I don’t remember specifically, but I read something about one person in the party having strict NAT prevents everyone from turning on chat. Either way, it sounds wrong to me. I do see this issue listed as one of the top we’re working on.”

He also spoke about a recent post in which a user unlocked developer settings. This is the method by which developers could convert their commercial Xbox One units into dev kits. However, as the dev stated, “Please don’t mess with anything here for the time being, especially the sandbox ID. You risk putting your box into a boot loop.”

When will it be available to the public? The dev remarked that, “I have no idea how far along the ID@Xbox program is. There are many concerns such as privacy, security, stability etc.., that need to be sorted out before we can allow anyone and everyone to simply sideload an app onto their box.”

So if you’re thinking about messing with the developer settings, be advised. As of now, we’ll be seeing games from the ID@Xbox program in 2014, but public access may be a ways off. Stay tuned for more details.

The connections between the two consoles continue to rise.

If it weren’t enough that cross-game voice chat would finally be arriving to Sony consoles via the PlayStation 4, it also seems that cross-platform party chat will be possible between the next generation console and the handheld PlayStation Vita.

President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida recently answered a fan’s question regarding the same on Twitter and confirmed that cross-platform party chat would indeed be possible between the systems.

@rossthebassist yes

— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) August 23, 2013

Too bad PlayStation 3 was never added to the mix, right?

As of now, the reasons for owning a PlayStation Vita (and subsequently for Sony to release a bundle for the Vita and PS4) are just piling up. Along with cross-platform party chat, you can also turn on your PlayStation 4 console using the Vita as a remote and even transfer your PS4 games to the Vita to play on the go, via Remote Play through Gaikai. What else will we see, as the PlayStation 4 nears its November release date? Stay tuned.

Xbox One and Xbox 360 users may not be able to Party or voice chat with each other.

A Reddit user recently inquired as to whether Xbox One users would be able to Party Chat with Xbox 360 users. Essentially, whether cross-platform voice chat would be supported by the next-generation console or not.

Surprisingly, this may not be the case. Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb responded that, “I’ve asked – based on what I know of the voice system, I would be surprised if this was possible. The Xbox One uses an all new wide bandwidth (read: better voice quality) CODEC, so I doubt they are compatible.”

Why doesn’t Hryb try it out on his own Xbox One and Xbox 360? Well, that’s because his console is currently running on “non-final code”. So while there’s a good chance that users across different Xbox platforms won’t be able to voice chat, there’s still a bit of hope that this won’t be the case – if not at launch, then perhaps somewhere down the line.

The ironic thing? After Sony got hammered in the last generation for no cross-game chat on the PS3, Microsoft is now facing voice chat woes. At least users will be able to text each other (or so we hope).

Digital and community manager for PlayStation UK Hollie Bennett recently provided some new information regarding the PlayStation 4 while answering fan questions on the latest PlayStation Access episode.

The PS4 will support Party Chat and you can have up to 2000 friends in your friends list. The PS4 won’t support DualShock 3 but will support Move. Interestingly, while you need PlayStation Plus for playing multiplayer on games like Killzone: Shadow Fall, you won’t need it to access services like Netflix, Party Chat or free to play games (such as PlanetSide 2).

The PS4 will ship in one colour – jet-black – at launch. With regards to 3D support, Sony has plans for 3D content with more news to come soon. Xross Media has changed with the ability to manage downloads, content and see what your friends are up to. Finally, you won’t need to make a new PSN log-in ID. Your current ID will work fine, and you can limit what personal information is shared with others.
