The PayDay games continue to make money for Starbreeze and Overkill hand over fist, as today they announced that PayDay: The Heist and PayDay 2 have sold 9 million copies worldwide. This oncludes sales of both games and across all platforms (PayDay 2 also launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though the bulk of its sales came from the PC version).

The company also announced that it has sold over 8 million paid DLC packages since PayDay 2 was released in 2013.

The PayDay franchise in general has made them a lot of money- which might be why both the companies announced yesterday that they had renewed their contract and would now go on to support PayDay 2 through to the end of 2017.

PayDay: The Heist and PayDay 2 are available on PC; the sequel is also on Xbox 360 and PS3, but it does not have as much support or as good of a community as the PC version, so if you are interested in checking the game out, you would be best served to play the PC versions.

Combining new heists like Counterfeit and Undercover with some new weapons like the AK Rifle, Grenade Launcher and Sentry Gun, the Wolfpack DLC promises the expand the game even further.

This is of course not counting the random carnage and mayhem gamers have learned to associate and like the game for.

Developed by Overkill Entertainment, Payday: The Heist and the Wolfpack DLC are only available for the Playstation 3 and PC.

A “reliable source” has told CVG that Overkill Entertainment, developers of Payday: The Heist, are working in collaboration with Valve on a Left 4 Dead prequel, focusing on the zombie outbreak.

The game’s supposed to feature gameplay elements from both, Payday and the Left 4 Dead series.

“[It’s a] very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead,” Playdead announced this themselves a little while back.

“As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into Payday: The Heist, which has led to various rumors,” reads a statement. “

We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production.

“We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”

Overkill Software who created Payday: The Heist was recently bought by Starbreeze Studios, and the studio’s boss Mikael Nermark has said to Eurogamer that they are developing a sequel to the game which released on the PC and PS3 last year.

“They will still continue to grow the first Payday, to enhance that experience, and move to the sequel,” he said. “They’re doing great stuff, and I’m not going to change that in any way. We’re going to give them the creative freedom to do what they’ve done so well,” he said.

“We’re broadening our portfolio. With this acquisition we will also be stronger in the eyes of a publisher. It’s one part of what we want to do.”

He also said that the game will surprise people and it is really impressive.

“It’s an interesting game. It’s a different kind of game. I think people will be surprised that Starbreeze is doing this game,” he said.

Sony and Overkill have announced that they will be releasing a new game update for their title, Payday: The Heist.

Key features of this game update include:

• Masks of Disguise: Feeling stately?Presidential masks are now available to those players that have reached level 145. Players can grab a Golden mask when all heists are completed on OVERKILL 145+. BEEEF masks have also been added to the game, and can be picked up in the lobby.
• OVERKILL 145+: Players that have reached level 145 can now play on a new difficulty called OVERKILL 145+, which opens up the possibility for new events and achievements. It also unlocks new weapons, such as the crowbar to open doors, as well as leaderboards.
• DROP-IN: With the added in-game drop-in ability, players can set the server to allow for others to join the game mid-heist. Players can also filter players by setting server reputation and difficulty requirements.
• SWAT Tactics: The SWAT captain has trained a slew of new recruits, resulting in challenging new tactics and counter measures for players to face on each of the heists.
• Sweet Moves: Players can check out new weapon animations for the Shotgun. Law enforcers now move more tactically than ever before. Even civilians have new dance animations in the DIAMOND HEIST.
• Portrait Window Additions: Players can now see the name of the character they are currently playing in the portrait window while in game.
• Compare Worldwide: PC Players can now view statistics on how many players in the world have completed the different heists on all difficulties through the ”SELECT HEIST” menu.
• Expanding Field of View (FoV): PC Players can now choose what FoV they want to use ranging from 60 to 100 through the advanced graphics menu.
• DIAMOND HEIST Music: For PC players, as a token of appreciation to the community, 200 of the most dedicated career criminals’ nicknames have been immortalized in-game. The DJ has added a new music track, doing shout-outs to 200 players in the community.

This game update is available for download at no additional cost on Steam and PSN.

Sony has been doing this new feature where they reveal the top 20 selling games on PSN for the month. They have revealed which games sold a lot in October in a recent blog post. Payday: The Heist, the crime shooter from Sony Online Entertainment took the second spot. NBA Jam took the first spot.

Payday: The Heist from Sony Online Entertainment is one of the fun games I have played this year, mainly due to the fact that it gives me a weird pleasure robbing banks and killing cops. Well not really, but hey, who wouldn’t want to do that in a video game? The game is available on the PS3 and PC and priced quite reasonably for what it offers. So should you buy this game? Read on. If you have played Kane and Lynch 2 before, this game will remind you of that, in fact, Payday is quite superior to Kane and Lynch 2 and of course I am talking about the multiplayer component. It’s a co-op based shooter that can be a time consuming if you communicate well with your friends or random strangers.

It is sort of like Left 4 Dead as well, where the co-op mechanics bear quite a resemblance in this game, and just like that game it works hard. Let me get the important thing out of the way. The netcode in this game is superb. I hardly encountered any lags or delays that usually ruin the experience in co-op based games such these. I’ll talk about the bank robbery map first. It’s quite poetic that you enter a bank with all guns holstered and then start the robbery. Bam, one bullet in the guard’s head and off we go. First objective find the manager and get the keys to where the explosives are securely hidden. Then use a saw to cut open the door to the vault. The darn things keep jamming so you have to be vigilant when facing an incredible amount of cops.

The cops are pretty funny. They are like meatshields with no separate AI of their own. They charge at you and keep shooting till you die. But you can do that as well, but considering the fact that you have limited bullets at your disposal, you need to be clever and look at the objectives rather than shooting anyone you see. It’s quite easy with the in-game indicators telling you where to go. You can replenish your ammo with the reserves you carry. Your teammates can use it as well. Once you get the money from the vault, it’s time to escape and once you do you have finished the level and the stats screen shows how well you did. It’s a blast playing with friends as you can laugh, formulate strategies, mock each other and it makes the game a lot of fun to play.

You will die often though but you can be revived by your teammates. If everyone dies, it’s game over. But once you have proper knowledge of the maps and when the cops arrive, it can be easy to clear. There are different difficulty settings to choose from, however, but it is only recommended for people who are quite skilled at the game, as the cops can take you down fast. There are a lot of scenarios here, stealing vaults from an abandoned building or just completing random objectives. It’s quite well designed. The game feels a little unpolished though, for some reason. Graphically it is quite underwhelming as well but looks slightly better than the console version of GTA 4 in some areas. I know you aren’t given a lot of freedom like that game but I am just talking about the general aesthetic of the game.

The sounds are pretty good here. When you fire a gun or a pistol, the sound is satisfying to hear. The little things like reloads are quite nicely animated and feels really good to execute. It’s a fast paced game, so if you are like me, and like to reload a lot, you are going to like this game. The game has a lot of intensity, as you can’t really sit at one spot as the cops will flush you out. Yes the cover is really important, but your ammo and health is limited here, and if there isn’t any teammate near you, then it will be tough to continue. The AI is dumb but really aggressive, so that kind of balances it out. Sometimes it’s a bit cheap when those shielded SWAT teams come in and start kicking your ass, but if you flank them well and cooperate with your team then it will be quite simple to overcome them.

Payday: The Heist is a fun game. I would have liked a few more levels here but it whatever it has, it does it quite well. Considering it’s a linear game, the graphics should have been better; the shooting while fun doesn’t pack a punch. But overall, apart from these issues it’s quite a good game, lack of content notwithstanding. If you are looking to play a good crime simulator, well not really, but something like that, then give Payday: The Heist a try. When you play it with a bunch of friends, you can have a lot of fun here and easily ignore the issues plaguing the game.
