These will only be available to use during combat and exploring dungeons – head into the System settings and Config to swap them out. Of course, it’s unknown if they contain the same orchestral arrangements, which is one of the more notable criticisms among fans of the original. Stay tuned for more details when the update is live.

Persona 3 Reload is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version out today. Based on the 2006 classic, renowned for revamping the series, it offers completely revamped visuals, new Persona, an improved map, and much more. It went on to sell one million copies in less than a week and received DLC in the form of Episode Aigis – The Answer.

Much like other modern games in the Persona franchise, Persona 3 Reload puts players in the shoes of a high school student that must, by day, live out their regular school life, and by night, must take on fearsome demons as a plot that involves heavy philosophy unfolds in front of them. As part of living out their school life, the protagonist also has to study for tests, hang out with friends, and even explore the city.

As its name might imply, Persona 3 Reload is a remake of classic PS2 RPG Persona 3. The original was the first game in the Persona franchise to give it the form we would eventually come to associate with the series, with a balance struck between living out a regular life and dungeon crawling to fight demons. We would eventually see the ideas expanded upon with games like Persona 4 and Persona 5.

The Switch 2 release will also likely include the Episode: Aigis DLC that was released for Persona 3 Reload on other platforms.

The report indicates that this remake of Persona 4 will be similar in style to Persona 3 Reload, which saw completely new assets, including voice acting and music, as well as improved visuals owing to the fact that the game was made using the engine powering Persona 5 and more recent games in the series.

While the gameplay in Persona 3 Reload was largely left the same as the original, there were a few quality-of-life changes, including the ability to manually command your team mates to use specific attacks and spells. The rumoured Persona 4 remake will also likely feature some similar quality-of-life updates.

Back in May, Yuri Lowenthal – who has previously been the voice actor of Persona 4 party member Yosuke Hanamura – had indicated that a Persona 4 remake was in the works. On social media platform BlueSky, Lowenthal said that, while he had “begged” to reprise his role as Yosuke in the remake, Atlus had declined. Lowenthal’s post has since been deleted.

Persona 4 was originally released all the way back in 2008 on the PS2. The game featured major changes from its predecessor – Persona 3 – by bringing in a wider variety of dungeons and a more vibrant cast of characters. Contrasting with Persona 3, Persona 4 also left behind the big city setting of its predecessor, instead taking place in the small village of Inaba.

In Persona 4, players are put into the shoes of a high school student that has been freshly transferred to Inaba to live with his uncle and cousin sister for a year. Over the course of the first few days, a rumour about something called the “Midnight Channel” spreads around, where those who stare at a switched-off TV at midnight will get to see a picture of their soulmate.

In true Persona fashion, the protagonist, along with friends from his high school, will venture into an alternate world where they must take on the shadow-y manifestations of peoples’ darkest thoughts. To take on these enemies, the protagonist and his friends tap into the powers of their own thoughts – the eponymous Persona.

Along with Persona 3, Persona 4 was the major title that attracted a more mainstream audience to the franchise. The game was popular enough to get an extended re-release for the PlayStation Vita – which was eventually released on all modern platforms – dubbed Persona 4 Golden, as well as anime and movie adaptations, and even spin-off titles.

Persona has been one of the biggest franchises under Atlus, and by extension, under Sega as a whole. The most recent mainline entry in the series was Persona 5 Royal, which also got sequels and spin-offs in the form of Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 5 Tactica.

Best of all, it’s replayable, though most of the build variety, Social Links, etc, open up well past the opening sections. Atlus notes that the demo differs in “some specifications,” though it didn’t specify how. Also, if you’re playing the game and returning to the demo, you can accidentally overwrite the former’s save data (since they occupy the same cloud save slot).

Nevertheless, this is a great way to experience the critically acclaimed role-playing game, especially if you’re wary of buying it first. You have to wonder if the demo will also come to Nintendo Switch 2 following rumors of Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor ReFantazio launching for the platform. Time will tell, so stay tuned.

The franchise’s previous milestone was 22.6 million sold by March 5th, 2024. Persona 3 Reload launched the month prior and sold one million in its first week, contributing to that total. Atlus hasn’t revealed updated for the remaster or the impact of its recent story DLC, Episode Aigis – The Answer. However, Sega stated in the report (translation via PersonaCentral) that remasters, spin-offs, and simultaneous global launches across multiple platforms contributed to the sales growth of Persona and Like a Dragon.

It’s safe to assume that Persona 6, rumored to launch next year, could also have a multi-platform launch (possibly including Nintendo’s Switch successor and Xbox) and simultaneous worldwide release. Sega and Atlus haven’t officially confirmed the title’s existence, so stay tuned for further updates in the coming months.

Based on The Answer from Persona 3 FES, Episode Aigis focuses on the android as she awakens after the base game’s ending. With the protagonist gone and the S.E.E.S. stuck in a time loop, she embarks on a quest into the Abyss of Time. Aigis possesses the Wild Card, allowing her to summon Persona, while her sister, Metis, can harness a variant of Orgia Mode.

Alongside revamped visuals and new mechanics from the remake, Episode Aigis includes difficulty options, the ability to transfer their Persona Compendium and unlock new Linked Episodes by gifting items to allies. It also includes new tracks and remixes for existing songs. Check out the new menu theme, “Disconnected,” here.

The story follows the base game’s final battle, with the S.E.E.S. perpetually stuck in a repeating March 31st. Players control Aigis and must venture into the Abyss of Time to learn why. Alongside her companions, Aegis’s sister Metis assists her, utilizing Neo Orgia mode for zero-cost skills and more damage.

While Episode Aigis – The Answer features the same plot as in Persona 3 FES, you can gift items to party members to unlock new Linked Episode scenes. Difficulty options are also available, including the new Heartless difficulty. A challenge battle against Persona 5’s Joker is also available.

Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis – The Answer launches on September 10th for Expansion Pass owners on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC. It’s also free for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.

Alongside his signature Persona Arsene, Joker can channel Sataniel to deliver extensive damage. Considering that protagonists from Persona 3 and Persona 4 appeared in Persona 5 Royal as Challenge Battles, seeing the leader of the Phantom Thieves showcasing his mettle feels appropriate.

The story follows the conclusion of the base game, but due to mysterious circumstances, the S.E.E.S. is trapped in a time loop. It’s up to Aigis to venture into the Abyss of Time and set things right.

While the story remains the same, Episode Aigis – The Answer features new Linked Episodes for allies, the option to choose from five difficulty settings (with Heartless being new), and track remixes.

Gamescom Opening Night Live producer and host Geoff Keighley has revealed that Atlus will have “something exciting to show” for Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis – The Answer at the event, which is scheduled for August 20. What exactly we will see remains to be seen, but Atlus has showcased new key art for the expansion by character designer Shigenori Soejima to build up the excitement surrounding its upcoming release. The expansion joins several other major titles confirmed for Gamescom Opening Night Live, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Marvel Rivals, Civilization 7, Little Nightmares 3, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and more.

While this is good news for those who played the original epilogue in Persona 3 FES, a new max difficulty called Heartless has been added. Though you can transfer the base game’s Persona Compendium into the DLC, making it easier to access Persona for Fusion and other purposes, it’s unavailable on Heartless. You also can’t summon Persona below Aigis’ level, which will make for even trickier battles.

Other features include Linked Episodes – new scenes unlocked by gifting items obtained from the Abyss of Time dungeon to allies. There will be a new opening theme alongside combat tracks, but the original epilogue’s tracks also get some remixes.
