Persona 5 helped to kick the doors down for Atlus’ RPG series, with it and its enhanced re-release, Persona 5 Royal, having critical acclaim as well as huge financial success. Already, it’s had a few high profile spin-offs, with the biggest one being Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, a mousu take on the franchise that actually sees a direct continuation of the Persona 5 story. Despite the game apparently doing well in its homeland, and the new fond success of the series, the game has been MIA outside Japan almost a year later. Well, that could be changing soon.

As spotted by Persona Central, three different Asain retailers are now listing Persona 5 Scramble with a new date: Pakistani-based Toy or Game, Singapore’s Qishan and Indonesian retailer PS Enterprise. These are Region 3 English releases, which would be aimed at Southeast Asian territories. What makes these important is that they explicitly list an English voiced language option, not just text, and this kind of release was a precursor to the worldwide release of Persona 5 Royal. All three also list the same date of February 23rd, 2021.

Persona 5 Scramble released in February 20th of this year in Japan for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, meaning if this ends up accurate it will release in the west over a full year after that initial launch. If it is the date, we probably don’t have to wait too long until the official announcement, so stay tuned.

Atlus’s Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is one step closer to releasing in the Western. After they mentioned planning a Western release back in April following the game’s success, Koei Tecmo confirmed the same in their recent financial report. The report notes a release for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe, though they didn’t list a release date.

Released earlier this year in Japan, Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is developed by Omega Force, better known for the Dynasty Warriors series. Set six months after Persona 5, it sees the Phantom Thieves whisked away to a strange version of Tokyo and battling all kinds of fiends. Eventually, an AI named Sophia helps them out and the group reunites to tackle this new threat.

As more of a Musou-style title with real-time combat, Persona 5 Scramble still includes the ability to fuse Personas and form a party with four characters. Players will partake in side quests called Requests and use the B.A.N.D. system which provides a variety of bonuses. Stay tuned for more details on the game’s Western release in the coming months.

Total sales for the series stand at 13 million units worldwide.

It’s been a busy time for the Persona series these last few months, with multiple releases across multiple platforms, from the western launch of Persona 5 Royal, to the Japanese launch of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Striker, and the Steam release of Persona 4 Golden. All three of those, as it turns out, have enjoyed commercial success.

Atlus have announced updates sales figures for all three releases, and each has impressed with its figures, to varying degrees. Persona 5 Royal has sold 1.4 million units worldwide, while Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers has sold over 480,000 units in Japan and Asia- a western launch for the action title is also planned, but an exact release date is yet to be nailed down.

Meanwhile, Persona 4 Golden – which has been unsurprisingly successful on Steam – has sold 500,000 units since its launch on the digital storefront. All of this collectively takes the total sales for the Persona series to over 13 million units worldwide, up from 11.1 million units in December 2019.

So yeah, news flash- people buy Persona games. Maybe now Atlus will put Persona 5 on the Switch. Probably not though.

The company did overall see net losses, however.

The Persona series has been one that’s slowly been creeping its way to mainstream ever since the direction the series took with Persona 3 to focusing on character drama and social links. Persona 5 really blew the hinges off the door, however, and it and the Royal re-release greatly exceeded expectations. It seems that’s had a company wide effect as well.

Atlus recently released their fiscal year end report that ended March 2020. All three games that were released during that time period exceeded the company’s expectations, and that includes the aforementioned Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, the highly regarded spin-off that is yet to be announced for the west, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the Vanillaware title that was recently confirmed for a western release.

Though the company exceeded all sales target and contributed to parent company Sega’s profits, they did report a net loss of 423.8 million yen (roughly $4 million USD). But that is down significantly from last year’s net loss of 904 million yen, so ultimately it’s still positive (The report was transcribed and translated by Persona Central).

Persona 5 Royal released earlier this year, and 13 Sentinels will release on September 8th for PS4. As of yet, there’s no word on when Persona 5 Scramble will leave Japan. The next release from the company is the Switch version of Catherine: Full Body in July.

The musou spinoff might make it out of Japan soon.

While most of us in the west are just now getting to enjoy the sweet (and very long) ride of Persona 5 Royal, they’ve had that in Japan for much longer. They even moved on to the next major spinoff in the Persona series, Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. The game released earlier this year in Japan, and now we have word on how well it did, as well as what the plans are for an oversea release.

Koei Tecmo, who developed the game in conjunction with Atlus, posted their financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31st, 2020. In it they mention that Persona 5 Scramble has sold well, though no specific number was given. But more importantly to most reading here, a western release is also mentioned, seemingly confirming an overseas launch (thanks to Twinfinite for translations).

It’s not a huge surprise, considering how much the Persona series has grown and Scramble has been mentioned in western-based surveys recently. However, this is the first time we’ve seen a reference to a western release. Who knows how long it’ll take, but we’ll keep you updated.

The spin off has yet to get a release date outside Japan.

Today, after months of waiting, we will finally see the western release of Persona 5 Royal. The enhanced re-release that saw lots of tweaks and additional content to the already packed game was released in October of last year in Japan, and it’s been a slow wait since then. The game seems to have been a hit all over again, and now the question is when will the next high-profile spinoff, Persona 5 Scramble, leave Japanese shores. Well, we don’t have an answer just yet, but Atlus has it on their mind.

A new survey was released and on it the western release of Scramble was mentioned. Oddly, despite Persona 5‘s massive international success, Scramble has yet to be officially announced to launch outside Japan. The survey asks how interested you would be in a western release with five varying options.

Persona 5 Scramble released for PlayStation 4 and Switch last month in Japan, and did pretty well for itself. Atlus has traditionally lagged behind in localizing the Persona series, so it’s likely it may be a while yet before the title makes it to us.

Famitsu’s latest weekly charts for video game software and hardware charts are in, and Atlus and Omega Force’s musou action-RPG offshoot Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers rules the roost. It occupies the top two positions, with the PS4 version having sold upward of 115,000 units and the Nintendo Switch version amassing sales of over 46,000 units, for a total of over 162,000 copies sold. That’s quite impressive, especially considering that it’s not terribly far behind Persona 5 Royal’s Japanese debut.

It’s not the only debutant in the top 10 this week, with Spike Chunsoft’s Katana Kami: A way of the Samurai Story also breaking it in. It, too, occupies two positions, with the PS4 and Switch versions at fourth and ninth place, selling over 10,000 units and over 9,000 units respectively. Meanwhile, perennial top 10 residents Pokemon Sword and Shield, Ring Fit Adventure, Minecraft, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also figure in the charts.

On the hardware front, the Switch is the highest selling console of the week as always, but due to stock shortages brought about by the coronavirus, has seen a significant drop in sales, selling over 41,000 units as compared to last week’s 80,000.

A bizarre video shows the love from Koei Tecmo

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers will hit Japan stores at the end of this month, and the game is going through its last big marketing push in the country, including the final trailer which you can see here. But they aren’t quite done yet, as a new video has been released highlighting the partnership that made the game happen.

In the video, Morgana inflitrates Koei Tecmo HQ to speak with Koei Co-founder Kou Shibusawa. If you weren’t aware at this point, Scramble is a collaboration between Persona publisher Atlus and Koei Tecmo, who publish the likes of Dynasty Warriors. Shibusawa talks up his love of Persona and the broader Shin Megami Tensei series, which he says he has loved since the 1990s. Unfortunately, there isn’t a closed caption option on this video for non-Japanese speakers so we relied on DualShockers for translations there. You can, however, enjoy the gameplay displayed from the first chapter in the second half of the video. Check it out below.

Persona 5 Scramble will release sometime this year for PlayStation 4 and Switch outside Japan. You might want to clear some time for it, too, as it won’t be a short game.

Watch the Phantom Thieves battle against all manner of threats in the new trailer.

Atlus has released its final trailer for Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers before the game’s release in Japan. It showcases the Musou-style combat along with environmental interactions and teamwork between the Phantom Thieves. Check it out below.

The trailer also showcases some boss battles and they’re fairly massive. We also see a few cool scenes like new character Sophia witnessing fireworks and Zenkichi Hasegawa aka Wolf awakening for the first time. A fair bit of ominous occurrences are also featured, which is par for the course.

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers releases on February 20th for Japan on Nintendo Switch and PS4. No details of a Western release have been provided as of yet. The first review from Famitsu has been very positive, touting the game’s story as lasting 45 hours. There’s also a New Game Plus mode which adds new Persona and a “Risky” difficulty while allowing players to carry over all their progress.

The Musou-style sequel to Persona 5 is out next week in Japan.

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is out next week in Japan. After all the screenshots, gameplay videos and even a free demo, it’s time for one last trailer. Atlus has revealed that the final trailer will release tomorrow at 1 AM PST/6 PM JST. You can check out yet another short gameplay clip below which features Zenkichi aka Wolf and Akane, his daughter.

Taking place after Persona 5, Persona 5 Scramble sees the Phantom Thieves transported to a mysterious world. Eventually they face off against deadly Shadows, taking help from a strange entity named Sophia (who’s also playable). The gameplay is more of a beat em’ up like Omega Force’s Musou games but with some Persona 5 mechanics (like All Out Attacks).

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers releases on February 20th for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Japan. The first review from Famitsu was fairly positive and indicated that the story takes 45 hours to complete. No news on a Western release date yet but stay tuned for any updates.
