As a free-to-play title, Phantasy Star Online 2 offers tons of story content, dungeons, and more along with fast-paced real-time action. New Genesis is a standalone experience (which still uses the same game application) and offers wide-open environments to explore and battle in. It also offers enhanced visuals for better lighting, particle effects and character models.

Combat-wise, players can use two types of weapons for extensive combos. Cross-platform play is already available for Xbox One and PC players but the PS4 version will also receive support at launch, as per a separate press release. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming months.

Set in a large open world landscape, New Genesis streamlines many aspects of the base game, providing cleaner interfaces, improved visuals and a much more welcoming start. The story takes place on alpha with ARKS battling against mysterious enemies called the DOLLS. As the Meteorn, who arrives with no memory, the player must fight against the DOLLS to save Halpha.

Along with new enemy types and mechanics, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis also has improved visuals, bringing the title more in line with current games. Though campaigns will be held to celebrate the game’s launch, “The Road to New Genesis Event” countdown login bonus will see some changes to its content and date. More details on that will be provided at a “later date.” Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will go live for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC worldwide along with PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan.

It will exist alongside the current game and offer quite a few incentives for new players to jump in, from improved visuals to a seamless open world and new enemy types. Sega hosted a new Prologue stream for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis where it shared details on areas, characters and skills that weren’t in the recent closed beta. Content available at launch will include six classes, the Aelio region and a level cap of 20. Of course, additional content will also be coming post-launch.

In July, there’s the PSO2 Series 9th Anniversary Event. August sees the release of the new Braver class along with Defense Quests and the Mag Evolution Device Share System. In the Fall, there will be a new Bouncer class along with Trigger Quests, the NGS Mission Pass and Title System. In Winter, the game’s first major update goes live, adding a new region, an increased level cap to 35 and new class skills and techniques.

The Character Creator tool is out on May 25th and allows PC players to design their characters and import it into the game when it launches. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is currently slated to release in June for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC in North America along with PS4, PC and for the Switch via the cloud in Japan.

The worldwide closed beta has wrapped for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis but Sega has new details to share soon. There will be a livestream on May 25th at 8:30 PM JST/4:30 AM PST that will showcase new fields, characters and more. It will also contain details on the post-launch roadmap.

As a separate entity that co-exists with the main game, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis offers a large open world to explore. Along with visual improvements, there are new DOLLS, ALTERS and FORMERS enemies to battle. Some foes, like Gigantix, can tower above players and require numerous party members to defeat.

The global closed beta for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis goes live in May but those who can’t get in won’t have to wait long for the official release. In an ongoing stream, the development team announced that it would launch worldwide simultaneously in June. Nibellion on Twitter highlighted the same in a recent tweet.

It was also confirmed that the Character Creator will go live in late May. This will allow players to create their characters beforehand and then import them into the game when it launches. Though the Character Creator will be available worldwide, it’s only for PC players.

For many years, Phantasy Star Online 2 enjoyed immense popularity in Japan, but stayed in that region. That changed last year when the game finally came westward and seemed to do pretty well for itself. Now a new version of the game, one that is set to run side-by-side with the original PSO2, is coming with New Genesis. The game was announced to be getting a closed beta, and now we know when.

As announced by Sega, the global closed beta will begin on May 14th. You can register starting next week starting April 22nd, however, via the Xbox Insider Hub app. It will have a limited number of spots, and will be first come, first serve. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis has been announced for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC for the West, with versions coming also coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan. The closed beta running from May 14th-16th will be only on PC.

Phantasy Star Online 2 players in the West, rejoice. Sega has confirmed a global closed beta test for New Genesis, though it hasn’t provided any dates for the same. Japan is in luck though as a second closed beta for PC will take place from tomorrow till March 21st.

In a recent livestream, Sega detailed all of the new features that could be expected from the next closed beta. This includes enemies like Bujin and Daityl Sword of the DOLLS; Chiacurio and Waulon of the ALTERS; and Crag Bear, Ard Banser and Ard Banshee of the FORMERS. New exploration sections include a 32-man battle, Dread enemies and an enormous foe called Gigantix.

Various weapon categories will include the Partisan and Wired Lance for Hunters. Fighters get Twin Daggers and Sabers while Rangers get Launchers and Forces/Techters receives Talis. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC worldwide along with Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Japan. While Sega’s ambitious Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis doesn’t have a worldwide release date yet, players in Japan will get the chance to try it soon. The publisher recently announced that a closed beta test for PC players in the region will begin in late January 2021. This will go on until early February 2021.

Applications are currently open with 50,000 users being accepted till January 4th 2021, 11:59 PM JST. Requirements include living in Japan, having an existing PSO2 account and meeting the hardware requirements for the beta. There will be two beta tests – the first is for current players and will utilize their PSO2 character data.

It’s currently unknown whether the console versions will also get a closed beta test in Japan. Closed beta tests for other regions are also yet to be announced. Regardless, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is still slated to release next year for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC in North America along with PS4, PC and Switch (via the cloud) in Japan.

More details on Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, Sega’s massive follow-up to the popular MMO, are coming in a new broadcast. The pre-recorded broadcast will be available on December 19th at 3:30 AM PT/6: 30 AM ET via YouTube. It will essentially serve as a follow-up to the Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online program while offering new information.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is essentially a brand new part of the game with a huge open world to explore. It features new systems, massively improved visuals with better character models and more character customization. This version will exist alongside the base game though certain progression elements like level, Class Skills and EXP won’t be shared.
