While not doing quite as well as competitor Fortnite, which hit 100 million downloads on iOS alone in July, PUBG Mobile, the mobile version of the ever popular battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, seems to be doing rather well for itself in its own right. Today, publishers Tencent revealed via a press release that the Android and iOS version of the game crossed 100 million combined downloads.

This milestone came in fewer than four months since the game debuted worldwide on smartphones and tablets, so it’s an impressive feat. The launch of PUBG Mobile saw it top charts in many countries across the world, including massive mobile markets like India and China.

Of course, for as well as Fortnite has done on consoles and iOS, there is a possibility that it loses to PUBG in the Android realm- there, instead of launching the game on Google Play, Epic will be making it available exclusively as a direct download and “sideload”. While there is an argument to be made that Fortnite is big enough for Epic to get away with it, it could also hurt them- and give PUBG Mobile the boost it needs.

All of that, of course, remains to be seen. For now, congratulations to PUBG Mobile on the milestone. It’s available on iOS and Android, while a full version can also be played on PC and Xbox One.

I’ve said this a lot of times, but nothing stops the PUBG train- and if you need more proof of that, you just need to look at how relentlessly the game is breaking and rewriting all manner of records in the book. After having conquered the PC, leaving nothing but smoldering ruins in its wake, PUBG has managed to o excellently well on the Xbox One too.

PUBG launched on the Xbox One on December 12 in Game Preview; in the first 48 hours, it has managed to hit 1 million players worldwide, which is an amazing number. Microsoft has also announced that they will be bundling a copy of PUBG with every Xbox One X bought between December 17 and December 31- which means that you have further incentive to pick up the world’s most powerful console now.

PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds is available on PC via Steam Early Access, with a ‘final’ 1.0 release next week, and on Xbox One and One X.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is undoubtedly one of the most major titles coming to the Xbox One at the moment, and one of the most notable titles they have in their arsenal to help sales of the console. Apparently, Microsoft and Bluehole Games have also ensured that the game will look great on Microsoft’s just released Xbox One X console.

Major Nelson has confirmed in the live stream for the Xbox One X’s launch that PUBG will be getting Xbox One X enhancements, too, specifically citing 4K and HDR as the improvements it will get. Whether the 4K will be native or upscaled, and whether or not there will be more to the update, is currently unknown.

This is bound to be good news for many Xbox fans, who are doubtless looking forward to PUBG, and at getting an Xbox One X, too. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is set to launch on the Xbox One via the Xbox Preview Program next month.
