Ahead of its launch on April 29th for Sony's console, Playground Games' open-world racer is already seeing strong pre-orders.

Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 has been officially dated for PS5, launching on April 29th, with Premium Edition owners gaining access on April 25th. Based on the PlayStation Store in various countries, pre-orders are pretty strong.

When sorted by “Best-Selling,” the Premium Edition and Standard Edition rank third and fourth in the United States, behind only WWE 2K25 The Bloodline Edition and MLB The Show 25 Digital Deluxe Edition. The latter titles are out this month, so seeing Forza Horizon 5 only slightly behind is promising.

On the UK PlayStation Store, the Premium and Standard Editions of Forza Horizon 5 are only behind WWE 2K25 The Bloodline Edition. Finally, it’s topped pre-orders on the Canada storefront, beating out WWE 2K25 and MLB The Show 25. It’s even ahead of other titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Check out our review for the Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox Series X here. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is rumored to target an April release for PS5, so stay tuned for more updates.

A letter has allegedly been sent to all developers on the PlayStation Store, highlighting punitive measures for spam or "repetitive content."

Shovelware games and clones by the same developer are a big problem across all digital storefronts. They seemingly serve no purpose other than to provide free Platinum Trophies for a few minutes of gameplay. It seems that Sony is beginning cracking down on this, though.

An anonymous source sent DexDotExe a letter from PlayStation to developers, highlighting the issue in question. “SIE strives to ensure that customers can search and discover the full breadth of experiences on PlayStation and that partners have a fair means of being discovered. When partners oversaturate or ‘spam’ PlayStation Store with many variants of the same type of content, it can negatively impact both the customer and partner experience.”

It allegedly defined “spam” or repetitive content as “Products whose functionality and/or assets are copied or are not meaningfully different from products already published on PlayStation Store, irrespective of the publisher of record,” and “Multiple concepts and product variants, published by individual partners, that have duplicative functionality or experiences, differentiated only by minor variances of functionality or assets.” It also outright stated that providing unique Trophies for each product was “not enough to differentiate content.”

Any developers breaching the policy will face different punishments that include restricted discoverability on the PlayStation Store, delisted content, an impact on the CertOps process, content takedown and so on. A developer that faces “multiple rejections or takedowns” could even have their PlayStation Partners account suspended or terminated.

Sony hasn’t outright confirmed the letter’s contents, so its legitimacy remains to be proven. Stay tuned for more updates on the same in the coming months.

The patent focuses on "techniques for providing information and functionalities based on a video game lifecycle and user context."

Sony filed a patent earlier in the year that was recently spotted by OP Attack, and it might contain some interesting hints about ideas that Sony may have in mind about how to revamp game listings on the PlayStation Store in the future.

The patent essentially discusses pages for games on the digital store that will provide varying information based on the context of where the game is at in its life cycle, as well as information that will be specific to the user. It describes examples of games showing different content on their listings based on their current updates and support, while information presented might also be tailored based on user-specific activity.

The appeal of something like this is obvious, of course. Live service games continue to becoming increasingly common, and it makes sense that Sony will want to highlight details that will be most relevant for an ongoing game like, say, Destiny 2 or Fortnite, where a plain and simple game listing wouldn’t make as much sense as something that focuses on the newest content on offer.

Of course, this is just a patent, and a patent doesn’t necessarily have to be reflective of things that will definitely happen in the future. More often than not, they’re just instances of companies protecting their ideas and technologies, so keep that in mind. Either way, this particular idea would make a lot of sense in the current market, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see features like these coming to the PlayStation Store in the not-too-distant future.

Shortly after its return to the PlayStation Store, CD Projekt RED's open world action RPG topped the PlayStation Store sales charts in North America and Europe.

Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch in December last year is unlikely one that will be forgotten any time soon (CD Projekt RED in particular will hopefully have learnt many lessons from it). Shortly after its launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was in such a poor state that Sony ended up delisting it from the PlayStation Store entirely, so that the only way to get it on the PS4 was with a physical copy.

Recently, Cyberpunk 2077 returned to PlayStation Store at long last after a prolonged absence, and instantly, it’s raked in the cash for CD Projekt RED. As revealed in their monthly on the PlayStation blog covering the best-selling digital games for PS5 and PS4 via the PlayStation Store, Sony revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 was the best-selling digital PS4 game in June in both North America and Europe.

CD Projekt RED recently claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 has, at long last, reached a “satisfactory” level of performance. Curiously enough, however, its PlayStation Store listing still comes with a warning that the base PS4 version of the game is not recommended. Meanwhile, Microsoft have finally ended their “no questions asked” refund policy for the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. It launches for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year.

Reportedly releasing on September 24th for Japan on PS4 and PS5.

Sega and Ryu ga Gotoku Studio launched a countdown site on April 23rd to tease something related to Judgment. However, it seems the next title had leaked early when Kenichiro Taka discovered Lost Judgment on the PlayStation Store. Though the tweet was since deleted, Wario 64 has shared the images.

Lost Judgment looks to be a sequel and will be releasing on September 24th for Japan on PS4 and PS5. There’s a Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition with the Start Dash Support Pack as a pre-order bonus. Those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will also receive the Season Pass along with three days of early access.

With Judgment Remastered recently coming to Xbox Series X/S and Stadia as well as PS5, it’s unknown whether Lost Judgment could also release on those platforms (though it could also just be limited to PlayStation consoles in Japan). At this point, it’s unknown whether it even launches for the West this year. Regardless, stay tuned for more details especially with the teaser site’s countdown ending at 7 AM PT today.

Honestly, they kinda do.

Sony is facing a class action lawsuit alleging that it has a monopoly on the sale digital games sold through the PlayStation Store, according to Bloomberg. Sony stopped selling download codes for individual games through retailers years ago, which means that while customers can buy digital Xbox and Switch titles at other online retailers like Cd Keys or at traditional brick and mortar stores like GameStop or Best Buy, there is currently no option to do so for PlayStation games. They must be purchased through Sony directly. Sony does, however, sell codes for PlayStation wallet funds through most retailers.

“Sony’s monopoly allows it to charge supracompetitive prices for digital PlayStation games, which are significantly higher than their physical counterparts sold in a competitive retail market, and significantly higher than they would be in a competitive retail market for digital games,” the lawsuit argues. It also adds adding that consumers could end up paying up to 175 percent more to buy a game digitally than physically.

At the time, Sony said that the decision to stop selling download codes at retail was made in order to “align key businesses globally,” but it did introduce more denominations of PSN credit to compensate. It should also be noted that players can still buy virtual currency, like FIFA Points, from retailers.

Honestly, it’s a hard lawsuit to argue against. Sony completely and utterly controls what games go on sale on PSN and when, which is not the case for games on Xbox, Switch, or Steam. This practice makes it harder to get good deals on digital games on PlayStation, and it’s often much cheaper to buy physically if you can. Hopefully, this lawsuit changes that.

The store will still cease operations for the PSP by July, as planned.

Sony has reversed its decision to cease PlayStation Store operations for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, which was originally slated to happen this Summer. Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan said on the PlayStation Blog that, “Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here.” Of course, commerce functionality for the PSP will still end on July 2nd.

Ryan notes that the decision to close the storefront for PS3 and Vita was “Born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.”

On March 29th, Sony announced that the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PSP would cease operations on July 2nd (with the PS Vita’s support ending on August 27th). Due to the number of games that aren’t backwards compatible on newer hardware, such as classics from the PS One and PS2 eras, they would essentially be lost to history. The decision was met with backlash especially in the wake of Ryan’s statements on backwards compatibility in 2017.

Sony hasn’t indicated whether the storefronts for PS3 and PS Vita will be shut down at some time later or remain open indefinitely. Whether the web versions of these stores will return also remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the meantime (especially with Sony rumored to be working on their own Game Pass-style competitor).

CD Projekt's Michał Nowakowski also states the game's return to PlayStation Store should positively impact sales on other platforms as well.

Cyberpunk 2077’s launch proved to be a disastrous one, and especially on consoles, the game launched in a state that was far from acceptable. On PS4 (and to a lesser extent, on PS5 via backward compatibility), the game suffered from crippling issues, resulting in severe consequences for CD Projekt RED. On top of lawsuits, refunds, and post-launch reports about troubled development, Cyberpunk 2077 was also taken completely off PlayStation Store in an unprecedented move.

It’s now been over a hundred days since Cyberpunk 2077 was taken off the PlayStation Store, but with CD Projekt RED having started the process of fixing the game – most recently with patch 1.2, which has a massive list of fixes – many are wondering when the game will be available for sale on the digital PlayStation storefront again. Speaking about the same at a recent investor Q&A, CD Projekt’s SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski said that though the game is closer to that stage, the final decision rests with Sony.

“Regarding this process, we have published several patches, we have just published a really big one yesterday, and we have published several hotfixes, and each and every one of them brings us closer to going back to the PSN store,” Nowakowski said. “However, the final decision you have to understand belongs to Sony. We do believe we’re closer than further, but of course the final call is theirs, so let’s wait and see.”

Nowakowski also spoke about the game’s sales, stating that in addition to updates and patches for improving the game, the RPG’s sales should also see a positive impact whenever it returns to PlayStation Store- even on non-PlayStation platforms.

“As far as Cyberpunk sales for this year are concerned, first of all I believe they will be driven by two major elements that we keep working on,” he said. “First, patching and updating the game, and this should also result in coming back to the Sony store. Obviously, Sony’s decision is much awaited by many gamers and we believe it may also influence purchasing decisions of not only those playing on PlayStation but also on other platforms, so this is important to us.”

Within less than a week of launch, Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 13 million copies worldwide, even factoring for refunds. Over 10 million digital units were sold across December.

CD Projekt has made several key announcements recently. Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer project seems to have been cancelled, with CDPR reconsidering its approach to online content. The developer has also said that going forward, in response to backlash against Cyberpunk 2077, it will be changing its marketing strategies for games. Meanwhile, a potential leak of upcoming free DLC may also have revealed some new details about new features that could be added to the game. Read more on that through here.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. It will be releasing for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year.

In just over a week, we’ll be done and over with 2020, believe it or not. It’s been a year of big downs and very few ups. As is often the case, we’re also in that period where plenty of sales are popping up to round out the year and for you to pick up anything that you missed. Now Sony’s annual end of the year PlayStation deal is live.

The Holiday Sale is now here, called the End of the Year Deals on the store itself. As is often the case, there’s way too many games on sales to name in full, but some highlights include The Last of Us Part 2 for $29.99, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Ghost of Tsushima for $40.19, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for $44.99 and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War on PS4 for $44.99 and the Cross-Gen Bundle for $54.99. So there is a lot of recent titles here mixed in with a lot of others. You can check the link below and we’ll provide the partial list given as well, just keep in mind this list is partial and there is much more on sale to parse through.

The sale will run starting today with most games keeping their sales price up until January 6th, so you’ll have plenty of time.

Following the announcement of a new release date, the PS4 exclusive can be pre-ordered once again.

It’s been quite the couple of months for Sony and Naughty Dog. First, The Last of Us Part 2 was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The game was subsequently removed from the PlayStation Store with all digital pre-orders refunded. Of course, then a huge amount of story spoilers leaked and the game received a new release date.

So it’s the right time to bring The Last of Us Part 2 back to the PlayStation Store with pre-orders available once again. There’s still 1.5 months to try and avoid all the spoilers out there but at least the game is coming. So pre-order away.

The Last of Us Part 2 will be releasing on June 19th for PS4. It follows the tale of Ellie on a quest for vengeance with mysterious cult members and the Infected providing a major obstacle in her journey. Stay tuned for more details and some hopefully official gameplay footage before its launch.
