Co-creator says season 2 is the last "for now".

Whatever happened to Powers, Sony’s first original television show available for the PlayStation Network? Though it ran for two seasons and had an initially strong push, the show about detectives investigating cases centered on superheroes seemingly faded into oblivion.

As it turns, Powers has been cancelled. Co-creator Brian Michael Bendis noted on Twitter that, “This is hard to tweet, but word is that Powers is sadly no more. Season 2 was the last. At least for now.”

The comic will still continue though and Bendis noted that there were “people [behind the scenes]” who believed in the show. Perhaps it could return under another network in the future. Then again, with all the superhero shows out there, it remains to be seen which network would be willing to pick up Powers (especially given its average critical reviews).

What are your thoughts on Powers being cancelled after two seasons? Let us know in the comments below.

Sony's original TV series for PSN can now be sampled via YouTube.

Sony’s original TV series Powers, which recently premiered on the PlayStation Network for PS Plus subscribers, now has its first episode available for free viewing on YouTube. Check it out above (though note that not all countries will be able to view it).

Powers is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name and focuses on a special police division which investigates superheroes and supervillains. Christian Walker, played by Sharlto Copley of District 9 fame, is a former superhero and tension arises down the line when he finds a superhuman with the same powers he used to possess.

Thus far, the first three episodes are available on the PlayStation Store for PS Plus subscribers and eventually, the entire first season will make its way to PSN. Thus far, the series has received a weak critical reception but there’s still time for it to improve. What are your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments.

The funny thing is, while the Xbox One was the console that was unveiled with the ‘TV! TV! TV!’ mantra, and while it id the console that got that stigma, nothing actually ever came of Microsoft’s Xbox branded TV ventures; meanwhile, Sony smartly managed to slip in their own PlayStation exclusive TV show, called Powers, which debuts this March exclusively on PlayStation.

The first three episodes will debut on March 10 on the PlayStation Store, and after that, a new episode will debut every Tuesday on the store until the Season is done. The first episode will also be available to everyone for free, and the entire season will be available to all PS+ members without any additional charge, although Sony isn’t exactly making it clear about whether regular PSN members will have a way to watch the show without subscribing to PS+.

Still, though… if watching TV shows is why you buy your consoles, this will be good news to you, I guess.

Sharlto Copley. That's all you need to know.

That thing, that nobody wanted to be a thing, is now a thing. And by that I mean people actually care about exclusive television shows that are being made by people who predominantly make tech and video games.

Sony have teased footage for their first official original show Powers and it does look pretty good. This bloke was a hero, he could fly (which makes him cool right off the bat) and he was above the law. And no, he’s not Superman.

Now, if you recognize this chap, then props to you because it’s the one and only Sharlto Copley! You should already know that he has got some serious acting chops. Plus he sports a mean beard. And putting him in the shoes of a disillusioned, now powerless “power” is one of the roles that he is going to slay. As much as it pains me to say this, Powers looks like it could go the distance and become something very good indeed.

Shuhei Yoshida says the coverage of TV show Powers could have been made shorter.

President of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida recently talked to Gamereactor after the Gamelab conference held recently and talked about some of the positive feedback from Sony’s E3 2014 media briefing. It wasn’t all positive though – many criticized the conference for spending way too much time talking about TV shows like Powers and devices like PlayStation TV.

Yoshida agreed that, “We spent too much time talking about Powers. So we could have made [that] a bit shorter. So that was a mistake.”

Well, at least responsibility was taken on something and hopefully it won’t happen again.

Overall though, the rest of the conference was fairly good with reveals for Entwined, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Dead Island 2 and much more. It’s hard to deny that it felt slightly inferior to Microsoft especially with all the games being shown one after another. Which media briefing did you enjoy more? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Based on the popular graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

Microsoft isn’t the only company looking to bring original TV programming to its respective console. Sony Pictures announced that it would be creating original content for PlayStation consoles and now Deadline has revealed that the first show will be Powers.

The show is an hour-long drama and based off a graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. It will last for 10 episodes and despite being in development for a long time, the premise is interesting enough. It involves Detective Christian Walker solving cases involving super-powered humans as they commit crimes and run amok in the normal world.

Though Powers doesn’t have a specific launch date, the series is described as being “of premium cable quality.” It was originally set for FX, which runs Sons of Anarchy and Californication, so it’s not the unlikeliest of observations. What are your thoughts on the same? Let us know in the comments below.
