That's a bit farther out than I would have liked.

One of the most awaited games coming to the Nintendo Switch this year is Square Enix’s Project Octopath Traveler, a classic, old-school 16- and 32-bit style JRPG that seems to offer nostalgia and depth in equal measures. Anticipation for the game increased greatly after it headlined a Nintendo Direct last year, and the availability of a demo following that. However, we haven’t heard much of the game since- while we know it is due out some time this year, when exactly is mostly unknown.

With that said, online retailer Amazon may have inadvertently leaked the game’s intended release date- Amazon Germany has listed the game for an August release date, specifically August 17. August 17 is a Friday, the day that Nintendo games usually launch on, so that part checks out as well.

That said, this is not official confirmation, and it should not be treated as such- hopefully, said confirmation is coming this E3 (or maybe in a surprise Direct before then?).

One of the most exciting upcoming games on the Nintendo Switch is Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler, which is a modern take on old school JRPGs that looks to be fantastic in almost every way. We know that it has the substance to back up the nostalgia it evokes, too- Square Enix and Nintendo put out a demo for the game on the eShop, which actually has nearly a dozen hours of content.

After the demo, Square Enix and Nintendo sent out surveys to users for feedback which they would take into consideration during development of the game; now, a new video for the game has been released, in which some of the most common feedback that was received is shared. You can check it out for yourself below.

Octopath Traveler is due to launch exclusively on the Switch some time in the first half of this year. As of right now, it has not been confirmed for any other system.

Square Enix’s intriguing side-scrolling RPG Project Octopath Traveler will be releasing worldwide in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch. This was announced on the most recent Nintendo Direct along with new gameplay footage and details on the characters and setting. Check it out below.

Project Octopath Traveler, which is the working title for the game, features eight playable characters embarking on their own journeys. They each have their own abilities – Olberic the warrior can fight anyone in a duel while Primrose the dancer can charm people into following her – and unique stories.

The art-style is incredible, combining 3D graphics, CG, sprites and other graphical features. As for the gameplay, features like the combat system and Boost Point system have been outlined below.

Developed by the same team behind Bravely Default, Project Octopath Traveler’s demo is currently live on the Nintendo eShop. A survey will be released after the demo to gather feedback from players to refine the game further.

Side-scrolling RPG looks very good.

In case you needed another reason to purchase the Nintendo Switch, Square Enix’s Project Octopath Traveler is also inbound. A new trailer for the game, which appears to be a side-scrolling action RPG, was released and it features the talent of the Bravely Default team behind it.

On its new official Facebook page, producer Tomoya Asano said that, “It’s my pleasure to finally announce our newest project, the fully original role-playing game Octopath Traveler! While we can’t reveal any specific details quite yet (keep an eye out for promotional media in the near future), we’d like to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at the development process in the meantime.

“A long road lies ahead of us, but we hope that you’ll come along for the journey!”

Bravely series fans need not worry though – the page states that there will be updates on that franchise as well. “Here we’ll be sharing the latest information on our projects, including Octopath Traveler and the Bravely series.”

Thoughts? Let us know below.
