Nintendo 3DS exclusive crossover game now launches in 2016.

The absolutely unlikely sequel to the even more unlikely Project X Zone was originally announced to be hitting western territories this Fall; however, it now seems like that will no longer happen, as publisher Bandai Namco has announced that Project X Zone 2 will be hitting North America and Europe some time in early 2016. The Japanese release date is still on track for later this year, however.

Project X Zone is truly a crossover of mind bogglingly epic proportions, featuring famous characters and franchises from Capcom, Sega, and Bandai Namco all featuring in one game, which is developed by star developer Monolith Soft, the studio that helms the popular Xenoblade series, published for Nintendo’s 3DS platform. It’s the be all, end all of Japanese gaming, as far as representation goes.

We enjoyed the first game for what it was- enough that we wouldn’t mind the sequel at all, at any rate. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.

They had me at "Hotpants"

We already knew that Project X Zone 2 was going to be slated for release in North America and Europe this fall but now we have an official release date for Japan. With Japan’s release set for November 12 it stands to reason the same window of time will cover the West.

Gematsu was the first to spill the beans on the release date and the site has a bit of information about the 3DS title to boot. Among the little factoids is that you will be able to get a challenge map DLC called “Woman of ’10 Years’ Past’” with first-print copies. If you are able to clear this map, you will be able to get the special item “Black Hotpants.” You’ll also get a download code for a special 3DS theme. There will also apparently be a more expensive, Limited Edition version of X Zone 2 that comes with what is being dubbed, “Original Game Sound.”

This feature allows users to switch between the background music for this new version of the game and the original version. There are more than 60 additional songs available in the Limited Edition. Gamers who buy this version will get some other goodies as well including an Adventure of Valkyrie: Legend of the Key of Time with Xiamou download code as well as a “Namco X Capcom 10th Anniversary Resource” three-sided package that is illustrated by Takuji Kawano and finally a Namco X Capcom “10th Anniversary Resource” Special 3DS theme

Project X Zone 2 for the Nintendo 3DS is going live around the world for the 3DS this fall and Japan is getting it November 12.

Monolith Soft is bringing more crossover goodness to 3DS.

Has your life been empty without all that gaming crossover goodness? Bandai Namco will look to fill that void with Project X Zone 2, a crossover turn-based action RPG that mixes characters from Capcom, Sega and the publisher’s own franchises. It will be out this Autumn in the West for 3DS.

Along with refined gameplay and a more engaging experience, players can look forward to characters from Tekken, dotHack, Devil May Cry, Sakura Wars, Virtua Fighter, Yakuza, Resident Evil, Mega Man and much more. You’ll be able to create an assortment of teams to power through the story, although it remains to be seen how much freedom one will have in creating their team. You can expect more characters to be confirmed in the coming months.

As with the previous game, Monolith Soft will be developing Project X Zone 2. It is the same studio currently working on Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U.
