Future proof yourself for Morpheus.

PS4 gets all the best deals and bundles from all these retail stores and outlets. After we have already seen some killer bundles recently (the best one was GameStop’s PS4, The Last of Us Remastered, a year of PS+, $10 in PSN credit, and a PlayStation TV, all for just $450), this new one might seem a little disappointing, but it’s really not.

For just $400, you can now get a PS4, The Last of Us Remastered, and a PlayStation Camera from Best Buy. yes, a PlayStation Camera, and I know what you are thinking- why in the world would you ever want one?

It’s a good quest`ion. While it’s useful for Twitch streaming, games have failed to utilize it in any meaningful way, not even giving it the gimmick status that Kinect has earned over time. Instead, so far, it’s just been a waste.

That promises to change next year, though, when the Morpheus VR headset launches for the system- it will need the PS Camera to run.

So, if you are interested in VR, and are yet to pick up a PS4, but wanted to? This bundle may not be a half bad idea.

'PlayStation, copy Xbox.'

One of the most iconic and ultimately useful things that the Kinect brought with it to the table for Xbox was voice commands. While it sounds like it may be a novelty gimmick, its convenience cannot be understated, which is why voice commands became one of the most popular ways to interact with Xbox. Sony tried to jump aboard the trail with PlayStation 4 as well, allowing it to be voice controlled via either the PlayStation Camera microphone, or the headset microphone, but the voice commands are neither as thorough and extensive, nor as smooth, as they are on Xbox.

Well, Sony might be looking at changing that soon, if this new job listing is anything to go by. It appears that SCEA’s Research and Development Organization is looking for a senior level engineer to support its PSVR SDK development. It’s a very long job listing, so I will just put down the relevant parts here:

To help handle/compile standard web based grammar support for multi-languages for voice recognition grammar and dictionary.

To improve runtime voice recognition system level optimization (including CPU optimization) and sample voice applications for many languages, particularly for Japanese.

To help improve voice recognition accuracy and out-of-vocabulary rejection rate for noisy speech, kid’s speech, and emotional speech with limited CPU and memory for multi languages.

Whether or not this has any tangible returns in the short run remains to be seen, of course.

The Playroom is bundled software that comes with the PS4; assuming you have a PlayStation Camera, it lets you play a range of minigames, and to stream and interact with content directly from your TV. While there have been some hitches ever since the PS4’s launch with the Playroom (notably people using it as a platform to broadcast amateur porn), on the whole, apparently the service has been somewhat of a success for Sony. Or, well, enough of a success for them to announce that they will be further expanding their broadcast sets at their E3 press conference earlier today. No release period for the new broadcast sets was given, though.

To use the Playroom, you understandably need access to a PlayStation Camera, which is sold separately, but continues to be a popular peripheral that is sold out most of the times.

Stay tuned for our full coverage of Sony’s E3 presser, including our review, going live later today.

Ubisoft’s upcoming dancing title, Just Dance 2014, just got a whole lot groovier as the developer released two new videos announcing the addition of tracks Get Lucky by Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams and Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke Ft. T.I. and Pharrell Williams. Check them out above.

Just Dance 2014 thus far has 47 songs confirmed, which include PSY’s Gentleman, George Michael’s Careless Whisper, Lady Gaga’s Applause, Flo Rida’s Whistle and many more. Interestingly, it will also feature a karaoke mode for consoles with microphones for players to sing along and compete with as well. There will also be a Party Mode, exclusive to the Wii U, wherein players change up the song and rules using the GamePad.

Arriving for PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360 on October 1st in Europe and October 8th in North America, Just Dance 2014 will also be launching alongside the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when they both release this November on the 15th/29th and 22nd respectively.

PlayStation 4 Camera Supports Voice Recognition

Sony counters Kinect.

For all the knocks that Kinect gets, no one can deny that it’s a powerful tool. Blending motion camera technology and voice recognition, it’s been taken apart and utilized for hundreds of different purposes worldwide, including medicine. So can you blame Sony’s PlayStation 4 camera for supporting voice recognition?

The fact was revealed in a new video recorded by an audience member at the recent GameStop Expo. Sony confirmed the same as a spokesperson stated to Eurogamer that “We can confirm that PS Camera does allow voice recognition. We will share more details on this shortly.”

The question is: How will the PlayStation 4 utilize the feature? We know that the Xbox One uses extensive voice recognition that allows you to snap applications together, switch between games and apps, activate different features and much. Will the PS4 camera have some common features in terms of accessing media and surfing the web, but be kept separate from actual gameplay? We’ll find out soon.
