'Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally.'

In an era where many gaming publishers are following a strict DRM structure, it was expected that next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft may be opting for an always online option. But fortunately, that won’t be the case atleast for the PlayStation 4.

Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that you can play PS4 in offline mode, however he suggest that you may want to keep it connected.

“You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected. The system has the low-power mode – I don’t know the official term – that the main system is shut down but the subsystem is awake. Downloading or updating or you can wake it up using either the tablet, smartphone or PS Vita,” he said to EuroGamer.

He further emphasizes his point that a lot of people still do not like social features so it’s not compulsory to go online.

“Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don’t want to connect to anyone else, you can do that,” he said.

This should come as good news for gamers who are looking forward to the PS4.
