With Avengers: Doomsday out in December, beat 'em up fans can take the fight to Doctor Doom early in Tribute Games' new DLC.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s second paid DLC has finally been revealed, and in keeping with the march to Avengers: Doomsday, it’s Doctor Doom-themed. The Siege of Castle Doom is out this Fall on all platforms and adds two new characters and a new mode.

Further details will be revealed later, but fingers crossed that this new mode is a roguelite twist of sorts, perhaps battling through the various sections of the castle before a boss fight against Doom. As for which two characters could be added, there are a wide number of options, including Mister Fantastic and Namor. Tribute Games could throw in a curveball, though, so stay tuned for updates.

Available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, and PS4, Marvel Cosmic Invasion launched last December to positive critical acclaim. You can check out our review for more details, where we praised the line-up and its attention to detail alongside the combat mechanics.

Tribute Games’ first DLC arrived last May and added two new characters, Cyclops and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 17. It’s unknown whether Dotemu has more content planned after The Siege of Castle Doom, but it could very well cross over with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, if ArcSys has its way.

The breakdancing fighter will be equipped with a variety of strikes that will keep opponents guessing about where he'll attack from.

Following Rick Strowd’s arrival in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, developer SNK Corporation has now announced that the next roster addition will be Duck King on August 27th. The announcement was made with a trailer showcasing some of Duck King’s slick moves, both for dancing and fighting. Check it out below.

Interestingly, it looks like the breakdancing character’s moveset will also involve some light rhythm-based gameplay elements, since the trailer indicated that players can get grades like “Bad” after wrapping up some combos. The Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves iteration of Duck King seems to largely rely on strikes that mix up high, medium, and low attacks to keep enemies on their toes.

On the story side of things, Duck King has a friendly rivalry with South Town hero Terry Bogard, as well as a love for the Pao Pao Café. The character can be found mostly hanging out at the café, and is voiced by Cedric Williams in English and Anri Katsu in Japanese.

Duck King is the second of six planned season 3 characters for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. September will see the release of Kim Kaphwan, and the only other confirmed character is Laocorn Gaudeamus, slated for a November release. The roster additions slated for October and December are going to be surprises.

Season 3 of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was announced just last month with a trailer that showcased many of the characters coming to the game. Long-time fans of the franchise were treated to a collage of 2D sprites of these characters from previous Fatal Fury and King of Fighters games, with SNK showing off how the visual style of the fighting game franchise has evolved over the years.

The third season of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves also brought along a Revenge Edition release of the game that includes all three seasons of content and is priced at $49.99. This means that characters ranging from Kenshiro to Joe Higashi and Chun-Li are all included. The start of the season also marked the first time that DLC characters were made available to purchase a la carte.

As the story of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves continues in the third season, SNK has noted that the theme this time around is “Destined for Revenge”. This is a replacement for Season 2’s “Legends Unleashed” theme, indicating that all of the characters coming out over the next few months will find themselves in South Town in their quest for revenge.

As for the most recent roster addition, Rick Strowd is a boxing pro whose moveset showcases just how well he could perform in the ring. Equipped with a variety of strikes and dodges, Strowd has plenty of ways to keep his opponents locked down as he juggles them around with his uppercuts and dashing jabs.

Duck King and Kim Kawphan were originally teased to be Season 3 DLC characters with an animated trailer released last month. The trailer also showcased some of the other roster additions that have been made to the fighting game.

NetherRealm Studios chief creator officer and co-creator of the series, Ed Boon, took to social media to confirm the sales milestone.

While there have been plenty of rumors going around of NetherRealm potentially working on a new Injustice game, series co-creator and the studio’s chief creative officer, Ed Boon, has offered an update on Injustice 2 sales. Following its 2017 release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, over 9 million copies have been sold worldwide.

His comment came after a social media user asked for some clarification about the fighting game’s sales figures. Using a screenshot of sales figures for superhero games up to May 2019, they asked whether Injustice 2 had sold more than 2 million copies.

Reports from earlier this year have indicated that NetherRealm Studios is working on a superhero fighting game. However, there is uncertainty about whether it will be a third entry in the Injustice franchise or something else entirely. According to known leaker MultiverSusie, the company has seemingly been trying to move away from the Injustice branding.

When it first came out in 2013, Injustice: Gods Among Us was an alternate take on many of DC’s superhero lineup. The central plot revolved around the idea of Superman finally snapping after being manipulated by the Joker and deciding that humanity needs him to become a tyrannical ruler. Batman, fearing the fate of his world, decides to call in reinforcements from alternate universes to fight off Superman and the other heroes who sided with him.

Its sequel – Injustice 2 – would further continue the story. While Batman has been trying to rebuild society while also fighting off the evil Superman’s allies, a new threat emerges, turning what was originally a conflict between two opposing sides into a free-for-all between three distinct factions.

While the stories of both Injustice games are fairly self-contained, there is plenty of room for a sequel if NetherRealm Studios wants to make one. On the other hand, the company’s rumored decision to move away from the branding might indicate it wants to tap into DC Comics storylines.

One of the most popular lines of comics from DC has been its Absolute line, which features reimagined DC superheroes taking on far greater threats since the universe is against them from the ground up. NetherRealm Studios could have a lot to draw from, since reimaginings of characters like Wonder Woman, Batman, and Martian Manhunter have become fan favorites.

As for Mortal Kombat, Boon said the studio is “definitely pursuing” another title, though he didn’t offer many details beyond that.

The open zone title, which recently launched on Nintendo Switch 2, continues to be a top seller for Sega after all these years.

Sonic Frontiers continues to generate sales for Sega, with a new tweet from the studio celebrating more than five million units sold since its 2022 release.

While those numbers are a milestone worth celebrating on their own, they are made all the more interesting when you consider that the game was at 3.2 million in April 2023 and 4.57 million units in June 2025. That showcases continued interest in the game, possibly spurred along by the Final Horizon update and the Definitive Edition which came out nearly two months ago for Nintendo Switch 2. That it brings all of the game’s content under one roof, with all of its updates and patches, makes it a tempting proposition for fans of Sonic, to be sure.

Sega’s celebrating the occasion by giving all of you a free pair of shoes that fans of Sonic Adventure 2 will appreciate. We’ve left the publisher’s wholesome tweet below, along with a peek at the new shoes if you’re interested in claiming them. If you’re thinking about trying this one out, our review should help you make up your mind one way or another, and the Definitive Edition is definitely a great choice if you’re jumping in.

Unfortunately, the listing has since been taken down. Its existence indicates that a modern-generation port has been in the works.

Six years after the release of Mafia: Definitive Edition on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it looks like developer Hangar 13 and publisher 2K are bringing the title to current-gen consoles as well. A listing for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the title was spotted by Reddit users, which indicated that native versions of Mafia: Definitive Edition were in the works. However, at the time of publishing, the listing has been taken down.

While details about the supposed PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Mafia: Definitive Edition are difficult to discern, it is likely that the title will run at higher frame rates than its PS4 and Xbox One release did. Since current-gen consoles are considerably more powerful than their predecessors, we can expect it to run at 60 FPS while targeting 4K on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and 1440p on Xbox Series S.

While Mafia: Definitive Edition is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S thanks to the current-gen consoles supporting backwards compatibility, the title doesn’t really benefit from the extra horsepower, since Hangar 13 hadn’t enabled features like an unlocked framerate mode. Until a current-gen version finally comes out, PC will continue to remain the best way to experience the crime drama with high frame rates and resolution.

A remake of 2002’s Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, Mafia: Definitive Edition tells the story of taxi driver Thomas Angelo in the city of Lost Heaven. One night in 1930, Thomas, or Tommy as he goes on to become known, finds himself involved in a car chase when two gangsters jump into his taxi. What follows is an elaborate tale about how Tommy gets further involved with the local organized crime elements and rises up a crew’s ranks. The title lays much of the groundwork for the stories that would go on to be told in later games.

On the gameplay side of things, Mafia: Definitive Edition hedges its bets by offering both open-world gameplay as well as more linear story-based missions. While the open world can be explored to find new vehicles and even weapons, the missions form the core of the game, and also happen to be the primary means of progression when it comes to unlocking more content. For more details, take a look at our review.

The most recent entry in the franchise was Mafia: The Old Country, which was released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in August 2025. Back in June, Hangar 13 had announced that it had been working on an expansion for the title. Dubbed Man of Honor, the expansion will revolve around a younger Don Salieri. The expansion is slated for release later this week.

In the meantime, take a look at our review of Mafia: The Old Country, which we gave a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its storytelling, character development, and simple-but-effective stealth and combat systems. Our only complaint was that the story makes a strange transition as it reaches its climax, leaving us somewhat disappointed.

In an interview, Sean Murray spoke about how exciting it can be to revisit an older game because it got brand-new content.

While developer Hello Games is likely quite busy with its in-development project – Light No Fire – the studio hasn’t quite stopped releasing more content for No Man’s Sky. In an interview with GamesRadar, studio co-founder Sean Murray spoke about celebrating the 10th anniversary of No Man’s Sky, and what the team has in store for the space-based survival crafting game’s next decade.

Interestingly, Murray noted that “there probably is some end date” for new content coming to No Man’s Sky. “But if you had asked me five years ago, I would have thought we would have passed it by now.” As for why Hello Games continues to make more content for No Man’s Sky, Murray said that he likes it when old games get major updates. Pointing to the 30th anniversary update for the original Quake developed by MachineGames, Murray spoke about feeling excited to go back to an older game.

“I saw MachineGames put out an update for Quake – some new levels. And I was a big fan of Quake when it came out. It was one of my real inspirations for getting into making games. And I see that it’s a 30-year-old game, and they release some new levels, and I think there are people who would look at that and say, ‘What’s the point? Why have they done that?’

“For me personally, I think that’s so cool and joyous. I’m excited to go back and have that nostalgia and play. And I was talking to someone on the team who is like, ‘Who’s even making that? Who cares? Who’s still there?’ Almost the implication of: wouldn’t it be sad if it was somebody who had worked on Quake for 30 years? And I just think it’s cool. I can see a real joy in making some new levels for Quake.”

Hello Games has already confirmed that it is working on yet another massive update for No Man’s Sky. Titled Cosmos, little is known about the update. However, its name might indicate that the development team has big plans for No Man’s Sky’s space travel systems.

The title got its last major update back in May. Dubbed The Swarm, the update brought in what is likely the biggest Expedition in No Man’s Sky yet. It included a time-limited campaign that involved Travellers working together in teams of three to take on the Hive of Glass.

Prior to this, No Man’s Sky also got turn-based creature battles with its Xeno Arena update. The new gameplay elements allow players to collect creatures from across the universe and pit them in battles against one another. These creatures can even be genetically altered to get more benefits, like higher stats and stronger attacks. Players who would prefer to avoid putting their creatures at risk can partake in holo-battles, which avoid any harm from falling on the creatures.

Xeno Arena was a follow-up to February’s Remnant update, which brought in the Gravitino Coil – a new module for the Multi-Tool that can be used to pick up large magnetized objects, and even Sentinel drones.

These are the latest in line for the multiplayer spin-off based on The Witcher, which saw 29 developers departing in May 2023.

CD Projekt has confirmed layoffs for its Project Sirius team, with five members at Warsaw headquarters being asked to leave, alongside four others in the Boston office. Nine others were invited to apply for other internal postings, showcasing a notable reduction in manpower working on the project, per IGN.

It’s rather disappointing to talk about layoffs on a team working on something as exciting as a multiplayer Witcher spin-off. What makes it worse is that this isn’t the first time that the team has faced layoffs (and that’s not even getting into the “new framework” for the title, which sounds like a development reboot).

What this means for Project Sirius remains to be seen, as The Witcher 4 and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 will remain priorities for the studio. There’s also The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Songs of the Past expansion (which is set to premiere its first look at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25th) and The Witcher 1 Remake that are likely taking up time and resources.

All the studio had to say on the subject was that it had “adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development”, which we can only assume is that it isn’t too high on its list of priorities. Stay tuned for updates, as always, on what’s next with the troubled project.

It’s a busy month for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, especially with Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 now available. It’s the perfect opportunity to jump in, especially since the new Devoid of Liberty update introduces new Illuminate enemies, a level cap increase, and a new biome unfolding in the void.
While the former doesn’t feature any enhancements or quality-of-life features, the latter sports the usual, including quick save, rewind, up-rendering and more.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man continues to go from strength to strength but as far as his mainstream presence goes, it’s in gaming where his character has been best realized even with Peter Parker’s biggest on-screen challenge unfolds.

Agood Spider-Man story always acknowledges that being a hero comes with a very real price for the one wearing the mask. It’s a detail that’s working wonders for Brand New Day, pushing Tom Holland’s take on Peter Parker to places that are quite dark, without the light of the friends and loved ones he’s relied on in the past to guide him. He’s alone and forgotten, by his own design, and burying himself in his role as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

It’s that balance between the man and the mask that always helps land a good story about the webslinger, but what about when you get to actually live through all the problems that come with such a balance? Or experience what happens when that balance is ever so slightly upset first-hand? There’s a difference between watching a Spider-Man story and actually being the central character in one.

Nearly three years after its release, Insomniac’s take on Peter Parker and Miles Morales continues to be ur favorite version of Spider-Man not just because of its excellent story, but because of how it made the character feel relatable while also being absurdly strong for a guy who was also struggling to pay the rent. Insomniac translated the man and the mask into emotions, and that has made its take on the character memorable.

The Actual Webslinging

Brand New Day had its share of exhilarating swinging sequences but the more of them we saw, the more the itch to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 grew in the back of our heads. Swinging in that one wasn’t just about getting from Point A to Point B, but to do it using momentum, elevation, and calculated swings and releases with bounces and launches thrown in to sustain your pace. Webslinging was very involved, and immensely rewarding as a traversal mechanic, and that’s not even counting the fact that getting stylish at it was a great way to farm out small amounts of XP on the go.

It was dynamic and fluid, allowing for quick responses to a dynamic city, your Web Wings complementing swinging instead of relaxing it outright thanks to well-placed Wind Tunnels that helped manage forward momentum very well. The actual art of getting around as Spider-Man allowed us to craft spectacular swinging sequences on the way to our next mission, and perhaps even during a few of them.

Of course, where you swing around on webs matters as much as how well you’re doing it, and once again, Insomniac’s take on New York City was one that rooted itself in Peter and Miles’ histories and current lives giving us excellent insights into their personal backstories, memories, and meaningful insights into their lives that would be wasted screentime in films, but work very well as lore-building snippets in an open world video game.

It’s also more than a passive stage, as you engage with it from the streets, the skies, and the rooftops, consistently engaging with its infrastructure to preserve it all as a part of your in-game routine in a way that ties Spider-Man to its well-being very well. It’s what inspires you to stop and actually be a neighborhood friendly hero, as opportunities for quiet acts of heroism often unfold organically, while you’re on the way to the next big story mission or perhaps chasing down side content.

That you almost always stop to help is a testament to how well Insomniac grounds its world and mechanics in the Spider-Man fantasy, making stopping to help feel almost like a natural part of Peter’s role as a protector, even as his personal life gets stretched even thinner every time he stops to help. You pay a price for being the hero you know he wants to be, remaining anonymous to the countless NPCs who benefit from your actions and even being persecuted for them.

Brand New Day does touch upon those themes of isolation, and the choice of being a hero out of altruism alone, and both the film and game do well to make Spider-Man, and Peter Parker himself, feel approachable. Insomniac inches ahead by making him feel grounded as well, something a cinematic version can’t achieve as effectively as a game where the audience is the hero.

The Man Under The Mask Matters

Another detail that merits exploring is the fact that Peter Parker’s life is an important facet of any Spider-Man story, the strain of a dual-life often being a great reminder of his human side. Tom Holland’s Peter is now isolated and bearing the strain of it without the support system he once relied on so much. He’s a man, and trying to be a hero doesn’t make his everyday woes go away.

Spider-Man 2 understands that, and puts us right in the middle of many of those problems. Peter’s money problems are a constant undercurrent in his inner monologues, while those problems make him worry about holding on to Aunt May’s house, a place that holds a lot of emotional weight and practical value to him. Of course, his heroics interfere with his employment, and MJ’s own struggles do come back to him.

His every obligation as a superhero takes up time he’d otherwise use to attend to important aspects of his personal life. It places a price on every decision he pays when the mask is on, and that both stories look at how giving the mask more power changes the man wearing it is a detail we’re very pleased about. Brand New Day had Peter’s new powers as an interesting narrative thread, his evolution allowing him to confront his own troubles and come out stronger as a result.

Insomniac’s use of the symbiote to give Peter a significant power bump while setting up the scope to explore his darker side was a great way to cement his relationships with MJ, Harry, and Miles at crucial points in the story, but also helped showcase a side of the character that players would otherwise not get to see. He was more violent and forceful, taking a more aggressive approach to the job while letting his personal relationships erode on the altar of arrogance that he would otherwise keep in check.

Spider-Man 2 does well to make Peter’s newfound power intoxicating to use, even as we know the cost of using that power. And that’s a facet of the experience that cannot be found anywhere else. It makes Peter’s corruption something you use and like, making you understand why giving it up isn’t an easy choice, but the right one for the character to make when the situation eventually presents itself.

The Space For The Hero To Grow

It also presents the other side of that equation, making Peter’s relationships become anchors to his humanity and compassion, without diminishing the supporting cast and their roles in the story. MJ has her own aspirations within the game’s world, as does Harry, whose personal issues affect his ability to meaningfully bond with Peter upon his return. Miles needs Peter as a mentor and a partner, while May’s memory continues to shape Peter’s decisions. All of that being in jeopardy when he takes a dark turn becomes a narrative and gameplay beat that continues to have us smiling fondly at how immersive being Spider-Man could be.

That’s especially true when fighting the game’s enemies and bosses, a part of the game that showed off just how improvisational the hero could be thanks to a wide range of moves across his fists, webs, gadgets, and the effective use of the world around him. Peter’s symbiote abilities, and Miles’s electric ones were great differentiators and also effective at breaking up repetition. Where films involving these heroes show them improvising, it’s always great to be the one doing it in a game and Spider-Man 2 is obviously the best one to do it all in.

Of course, Miles’s presence only helps elevate the experience in that one, helping lend variety to the traversal and combat, while bringing an entirely different man to the mask, and a whole other set of problems that come from another life lived with two identities. Where Peter’s isolation makes Brand New Day very effective at examining the price of being Spider-Man, Insomniac’s story sets up the scope for the role becoming a shared responsibility instead of a lonely burden, with interesting twists thrown in for good measure.

Of course, we’d be remiss not to talk about excellent antagonists who don’t just challenge Peter’s skills, but his very identity and motivations. Kraven tests his ability to withstand pressure, while the symbiote brings his darker impulses to the front of his mind, trying to strike at the empathy and compassion that prop up his heroic motivations. The damage they exposed, like in Brand New Day, were bruises that Peter could not shake off as easily as the ones from a tough fight.

All in all, watching a Spider-Man movie just feels different when you have ready access to a game that lets you do everything you see the hero do on screen and then some. In the case of Spider-Man 2, that’s made even better by a story and world that’s framed around bringing out the man and the mask in equal measures, with both aspects of the character being developed well enough to make it a story worth experiencing.

It makes the spectacle of Spider-Man feel earned, and that’s not something you can get anywhere else for now.

The 2011 hack-and-slash action RPG is now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 1 and 2, PC and PS4 courtesy of Aspyr Media.

After some suspicious activity on the Steam backend, Aspyr Media has officially announced The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition. Available now for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, it offers hack-and-slash combat for up to three players. Check out the launch trailer below.

The story unfolds in the North as the Black Númenórean, Agandaûr, has raised a mighty army to wreak havoc in Sauron’s name. It’s up to three heroes – Eradan, Andriel and Farin – to stop him or fall trying. While co-op support is available, it’s entirely possible to quick-swap all three characters while solo, balancing between ranged combat, spells, and a tanky melee playstyle.

Of course, each character can be upgraded with new abilities and gear, as you venture across iconic Middle-earth locations (and even meet some familiar heroes). Aside from local co-op (including split-screen), online co-op is also supported in War in the North – Legacy Edition. It also runs at 60+ FPS with up to 4K resolution.

While it’s no substitute for a new title from the defunct Monolith Productions, this should make the wait for Warhorse Studios’ Middle-earth game that much easier, especially since it’s discounted to $17.99 until August 25th.
