Ladies and gentlemen, your PS4 killer app for the month.

After a good measure of success on PSN and the PS Vita, where it was the 11th and 4th best selling game respectively for each platform, VooFoo Studios’ Pure Chess is heading to the PlayStation 4 in both Europe and North America. Check out the newest trailer of the game above.

As for what the game is about, well, it’s friggin’ chess. What else do you expect? Fortunately, it has a decent single-player campaign and multiplayer modes to play against your friends on. It should be noted that the game is apparently supposed to be out in Europe and North America for the PS4 and supports cross-play with the PS Vita version.

Pure Chess is also available on the PS3, 3DS, iOS, Android and Wii U, with the Nintendo platforms supporting cross-platform play. You can even play against mobile users and perhaps even with PlayStation users. Are you picking up this killer app? Let us know in the comments.

Committed to "helping devs realize full potential of their software on Nintendo systems."

Initially reported by Ripstone creative director Phil Gaskell not too long, Nintendo has officially confirmed to VG247 that it will be supporting cross-play for titles on not only the Wii U and 3DS, but with other consoles as well. It outlined three games – Disney Infinity, Cubeman 2 and Pure Chess – that will be able to communicate with other consoles.

“We can confirm that cross-platform functionality is possible in certain titles that play on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as other video game systems not made by Nintendo. We are committed to helping developers realize the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems.

“We can confirm that Disney Infinity from Disney Interactive Studios, Cubeman 2 from Three Sprockets and Pure Chess from Ripstone, all have the ability to play on Nintendo systems while at the same time communicating with consumers using those same games on other systems. Additional games using this functionality are in development.”

As of now, Pure Chess’s cross-platform support will depend on Sony’s go-ahead. Stay tuned for more details.
