Released back in January, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake puts players in the shoes of SpongeBob and Patrick as they set off on an epic adventure. The Mermaid’s Tears, which can grant wishes, have fallen into the duo’s hands, and as a result, chaos ensues.

The 3D platforming game features plenty of characters, both from the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise, as well as its own original characters. Its gameplay revolves around exploring large levels as players take on enemies with melee and ranged combat. Players will also be able to unlock new abilities along the way that help out with both combat as well as traversal.

The game features quite a bit of content, including a new soundtrack, 40 costumes, and the presence of 7 distinct Wishworlds, each with its own theme.

While SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will, of course, be introducing its own new characters as well, plenty of familiar SpongeBob characters will also showing up, all of whom are being voiced by the original voice actors. The latter is what the trailer focuses on, with the likes of SpongeBob himself, Patrick, Gary, Sandy, Squidward, and many more making an appearance. Check out the trailer below.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is out later this month, on January 31. It will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility.

The languages supported in the game are English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Hindi, Indonesian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Polish. THQ Nordic has also released a new trailer that showcases a snippet of a cutscene from the game in all the aforementioned languages, before the rest of the cutscene is shown in English. Going by the video, the game’s combat seems to revolve around trapping enemies in bubbles before finishing them off with a melee attack.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake got a gameplay trailer earlier this month during THQ Nordic’s own games showcase. The gameplay showed off a number of different locations, as well as some platforming gameplay.

The game was originally unveiled during THQ Nordic’s showcase from 2021. The game is being developed by Purple Lamp Studios, and is essentially a follow up to SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, likely following a similar style of gameplay.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake doesn’t yet have a release date. It is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

The new gameplay trailer roughly three minutes of new gameplay footage, and there’s quite a bit to see. A number of different locations are shown, with SpongeBob and Patrick getting past various obstacles, enemies, and platforming challenges. We start with the duo trying to cut off the candy supply for a crazed Gary, who has a bit of a sugar rush, and see other stages, including one where SpongeBob and Patrick are cavemen, one where they’re in a Wild West-style town, and more. Starting April 5, PS Plus subscribers can claim Sumo Digital’s PvPvE heist game Hood: Outlaws and Legends, MegaCrit’s seminal roguelike deck builder Slay the Spire, and Purple Lamp Studios’ acclaimed remake SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Biki Bottom – Rehydrated. Those are pretty solid offerings – Slay the Spire in particular is excellent, while SpongeBob has its own fair share of fans – so subscribers have some good games to claim in the coming days.

That means you have until March 4 to claim the previous month’s PS Plus offerings, which are Ark: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing, Ghostrunner, and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

THQ Nordic parent company have been expanding rapidly and aggressively for a while now, and that expansion seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. The company recently announced that it has acquired a slate of new studios- 13 in total, of which 11 are game development studios, one is a PR firm, and one is a QA-focused software outsourcing company.

Polish developer Flying Wild Hog – who are currently working on Shadow Warrior 3 and have also partnered with Focus Home Interactive for an upcoming project – is one of the studios that have been acquired. Phoenix Point developer Snapshot Games, Operencia: The Stolen Sun developer Zen Studios, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated developer Purple Lamp Studios, and Quantum League developer Nimble Giant Entertainment have also joined the fold.

The other studios that Embracer have acquired are 34BigThings, Coffee Stain North, A Thinking Ape Entertainment, Mad Head Games, IUGO Mobile Entertainment, and Silent Games. Meanwhile, Embracer have also brought PR firm Sandbox Strategies and quality assurance-focused software outsourcing company Quantic Lab into the fold.

Where earlier this year Embracer Group collectively had 118 games in development, 69 of which were unannounced at the time, that number has now gone up to a whopping 135 games.
