This week’s Media Create sales for Japan are in and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has debuted in first place. It hasn’t exactly had the highest number of sales though – it only sold 15,913 units on the PlayStation 4.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is still doing decently with 13,844 units sold in the past week and lifetime sales of 232,683 units. Minecraft: PS Vita Edition is still doing surprisingly well with 11,303 units sold (lifetime units of 155,278). Girls Mode 3: Kirakira Code follows next and has 7,422 units sold in the past week with 128,213 units sold in its lifetime.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection also debuted but sold only 6,922 units in its first week. This was followed by Mario Kart 8 with 989,307 units sold in its lifetime. Another recent title from Square Enix, namely Bravely Second: End Layer, managed to sell 5,260 units this past week with lifetime sales of 134,905 units. Then there’s Xenoblade Chronicles X which sold 4,236 units in the past week on the Wii U, marking the total lifetime units at 101,511.

Nintendo dominates in this week's top ten.

This week’s Media Create sales charts are in, covering sales for software and hardware in Japan during Golden Week, and GungHo Online Entertainment’s Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is still the number one selling title. It sold 38,914 units this past week with 218,839 units sold since the game’s release two weeks ago.

This is followed by Nintendo’s Girls Mode 3: Kirakira Code on the 3DS which sold 21,784 units (lifetime sales at 120,791) with Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition selling 18,025 units with its lifetime sales at 143,976 units.

Interestingly enough, Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles X – which has been hyped significantly in the past few months – has sold 11,689 units this past week. Lifetime sales are currently at 97,275 units. It’s not awful but this epic JPRG still has a ways to go. There were no new entrants for the past week, and the top ten was dominated primarily by 3DS and Wii U titles.

Meanwhile, the New Nintendo 3DS XL sold 17,875 units this week compared to the PlayStation Vita which sold 17,273 units. The New 3DS XL is significantly higher on the totem pole this week, considering the PS Vita outsold it last week.

Dragon Quest X: Legend of the Ancient Dragon Online also debuts.

It’s been a rather interesting week for the Wii U and New 3DS in Japan. According to the latest Media Create Charts, not only did the Wii U sell roughly 3 times the number of units the previous week as compared to the week before but the eagerly awaited Xenoblade Chronicles X was in fact not the top selling game across all platforms.

Instead, that honour went to Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition which raked in 179,926 units in its first week. Dragon Quest X: Legend of the Ancient Dragon Online came in second with 98,923 units, this too being its debut week. Meanwhile, Xenoblade Chronicles X only managed to sell 85,586 units in its opening week. Perhaps it will pick up over time?

Nintendo has been doing pretty good regardless. Bravely Second: End Layer managed to sell 20,195 units the past week with 120,242 units over its lifetime. The PlayStation Vita had a number of titles in the top ten including Minecraft: PS Vita Edition (which sold 16,166 units the past week and totaled 125,951 units in its lifetime). The handheld surprisingly outsold the New Nintendo 3DS XL but barely with 17,748 units versus 17,062 units respectively.
