The latest video for the game features director Baiyon near Kamo river in Kyoto talking about how he came up with the game's idea.

New PixelJunk title Dreams of Another has gotten a new trailer, this time around featuring game director Baiyon. The trailer, which you can check out below, revolves around the developers of the game went about creating the various sounds and music for the upcoming game.

Along with this, we also get to look at some new gameplay and story elements of Dreams of Another. The title, featuring unique visuals and gameplay, revolves around the player creating a brand new world by shooting it with their gun. Weapons available to the player can range from assault rifles to full-fledged RPGs.

“Rather than destroying objects by shooting—as in traditional shooting games—here, your shots materialize and create the world,” explained Baiyon back when the game was first unveiled. “This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension.”

Throughout their time with Dreams of Another, players will get to explore strange worlds and meet different people, all the while also experiencing their own stories. The title is slated for release on October 10, and will be coming to PC and PS5. The PS5 version of the game will also be compatible with the PlayStation VR2.

The PC version of Dreams of Another was announced with a new version of the game's original announcement trailer from February.

Q-Games has revealed that the previously-announced PixelJunk game, Dreams of Another, will also be coming to PC alongside its already-confirmed PS5 and PS VR2 versions. The announcement was made with a new trailer that you can check out below.

Interestingly, the trailer doesn’t really offer up any new gameplay or details aside from the PC release. In fact, except from the PlayStation logo at the beginning, the latest trailer is more or less identical to the one used to first announce Dreams of Another.

Dreams of Another was originally announced during Sony’s State of Play showcase back in February. The game, set to be a new entry in the PixelJunk franchise, is being helmed by Baiyon in the creative director position.

More details about Dreams of Another were revealed thanks to Baiyon taking to the PlayStation Blog to talk about the philosophy behind the game. One of its core mechanics is creating things by shooting at them. The game is set in a world where new things are created with the destruction of older things.

“Rather than destroying objects by shooting—as in traditional shooting games—here, your shots materialize and create the world,” explained Baiyon. “This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension.”

Among the features of Dreams of Another will be a story described by developer Q-Games as “poetic”, and will revolve around The Man in Pajamas and The Wandering Soldier. The story will be told through players’ interactions with the world around them. The soundtrack for the game will also be made by Baiyon.

Dreams of Another doesn’t yet have a release date. It does, however, have a 2025 release window.

Players will explore the world as two emotionally-scarred protagonists as they shoot things to bring them to life, rather than destroying them.

Developer Q-Games unveiled a new title in its PixelJunk series of games during Sony’s recent State of Play. Titled Dreams of Another, the title is slated for release on PS5 and PS VR2. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Creative director Baiyon took to the PlayStation Blog to reveal more details about Dreams of Another, including the philosophy that went into designing the game. One core aspect of the title is that shooting at things helps create things in the world rather than destroying them.

“Rather than destroying objects by shooting—as in traditional shooting games—here, your shots materialize and create the world,” explained Baiyon. “This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension.”

Dreams of Another also features a rather unique art style, with the players being dropped into a world where just about everything around them is an ethereal dreamscape. This was done using a new technology referred to as point cloud technology. The world will exist in clusters of countless particles, which can then come together through the player’s actions to from the actual world around them.

Making further use of this new technology, Dreams of Another will also make use of the power offered by the PS5 Pro. This will allow the game to feature smoother animations at higher resolutions.

The story will revolve around two characters: The Man in Pajamas and The Wandering Soldier. Both characters, described as being emotionally scarred, will have their own stories as players interact with the world that they are restoring around them.

As for PlayStation VR2 players, Dreams of Another will allow them to explore the world with full 360 degrees of immersion.

While Dreams of Another doesn’t yet have a solid release date, Q-Games has stated that it plans for a 2025 launch.

Google sent out development kits to 100 developers around the world.

Earlier today, Google announced Stadia, their bid for the gaming market, and a streaming-only game platform. They managed to announce a game platform without actually announcing many games for it, though they did bring on some developers and publishers on stage as proponents of the upcoming service.

These include id Software and Ubisoft—of course, since we already knew it would. Tequila Softworks, the folks behind RIME, also came on stage to demo a feature (from which it follows that they may end up being a supporter of Stadia in the future). Q-Games, the Japanese based developer, was also on stage.

Google confirmed during its keynote that it sent development kits for Stadia to over 100 developers, and that it is now accepting applications from other developers for dev kits, should they want them, so what we see right now is probably not all of it. And having id and Ubisoft on your side is a good start, if nothing else.

Q-Games, the folks behind the excellent PixelJunk games, are apparently teasing something for this week. In a tweet, they have shared a video promising ‘big news’ for the week of November 20-25. Amusingly enough, the video they posted actually promised a reveal for November 2018, something that was pointed out on Twitter, which caused them to clarify they definitely meant a reveal for this week, this year.

As for what the tease could be about- we don’t actually know yet, and we don’t have much to go by. Maybe it’s a new PixelJunk game, or it could be something else entirely. Whatever it is, it is likely to be PlayStation exclusive- they have stuck with exclusivity for Sony’s consoles for the last several years now, and we have no immediate reason to believe that might have changed. Actually, now that I think about it- what if it’s a PlayStation VR project?

Whatever it is, we should find out soon- and when we do, we’ll be the first to let you know.

Barely a year after launch...

The experimental PS4 exclusive pseudo survival game MMO, The Tomorrow Children, launched in September last year… but it will already be closing down in November this year. The creators of the game, Q-Games, cited a low player population, and their inability to attract more players, as the primary reason for the decision.

The game was originally going to be a paid title- however, it switched to a free-to-play model just before launch (thankfully), which means that no one has actually lost much money, it is to be hoped (since the game is clearly not profitable, it can be assumed that people are not actually spending much money on it).

Unfortunately, however, for those of you who did like playing the game, this will nonetheless be sad news, if a little understandable. We can only hope that Q-Games’ next venture sticks the landing a bit better than The Tomorrow Children did.

It was a fun and very different game to the usual fare but The Tomorrow Children will be closing in November, your last chance to play EVER!

This grind-fest definitely needs some improvements.

Developer Q-Games have really taken a complete turn from their interesting games of last generation and spun it all around into their new work of art, The Tomorrow Children. And though this game is a bit rough around the edges, utterly confusing to start out on, and sometimes just strung with “what the?” moments, it has aching moments in it that will hopefully be improved upon later down the road. But for right now, what is present upon release really isn’t as intriguing as all of the trailers have made it seem. You will find a developer who have dug deep to bring a much darker tone than their previous work, with a touch of Russian culture, and a whole lot of bland moments blended in.

The Tomorrow Children is an free to play, online multiplayer game where everyone works towards a united goal of building towns and raising the world’s population in the process. An awful catastrophe occurred when a global experiment went wrong. Everyone’s consciousness has been sent off into what is called the Void, the leftovers of it all. The Void is just as it sounds: an emptiness designed to bring everyone together, and these people, including your character, are known as projection clones. These projection clones look like little, carved, wooden dolls that store your conscious to help restore order to the Void.

"As I stated earlier, this is a community game where you will be creating buildings in the town with others, but never actually with anyone. You will see another player for a short time in what is effectively the lobby, but nothing further."

Strangely enough, the game never really gives a clear presentation on what you should be doing, why, or how often. Hitting up on the D-pad will give off a few one-liners from a character who’s trying to give some guidance (for better or for worse), but the overall feel of the game, with its oddly placed platforming, and terrible, but brief, combat in between all the time you’ll be spending on building. And you’ll be building a lot, for a long time, and you’ll never truly know why.

As I stated earlier, this is a community game where you will be creating buildings in the town with others, but never actually with anyone. You will see another player for a short time in what is effectively the lobby, but nothing further. You’ll never see them working hard at creating a building, though as time goes on you will see buildings coming to life from others you know are there but can ever actually see. When you are not working on buildings, the only other big thing to do is to gather resources. You must find the bus, board it, then allow it to shoot you off towards a new location which randomly appear and go away.

These buses go on a tight schedule and are not influenced by anything other than time. So no matter how many characters are waiting, the bus will come when the time is right. As the bus drives to the new location, you can’t skip the travel. You will be forced to see every inch of the trip from start to finish. If there was some fun or interesting backdrops or characters along the way, the ride would be somewhat tolerable. However, the Void you work in and travel in is an ashy white, completely lifeless, and filled with nothingness. It’s just plain boring.

"After you’ve gathered what materials you believe you need, put them in your backpack, and then head back to the train.
After you’ve gathered what materials you believe you need, put them in your backpack, and then head back to the train. But be warned, you can only carry up to three slots in your backpack, which turns this entire experience into an endless grind-fest for materials. When you’ve caught the bus, returned back to the Void lobby, it’s then up to you to manually place each resource within a pre-selected location so it can be counted for further use. It’s a painful experience to have to go back to the randomly generated areas again and again to find more resources, place them in their slots, and do it all over again. What makes it worse is that some of the randomly generated locations you are sent off to in the bus may not have the resources you need for certain things you’d like to build.

Being a game that places emphasis on a online community makes it just very odd that you cannot communicate with anyone in the game. Everyone is doing what they want at their own pace, creating buildings, traveling afar, gathering what’s needed. The result of this miscommunication is that the towns often turn out to look nothing like a miracle city in the ruins of the old world, but a blind collaboration of things constructed in several different attires with no true rhyme or reason behind any of it.

"Hopefully down the line Q-Games will add in a few mechanics that help the game, such as gathering resources at a much faster rate than the sluggish wait-for-the-meter-to-run-out-before-resources-can-be-collected style and make a bus that moves at my own schedule rather than waiting for it."

The game provides Soviet style propaganda that comes shooting through the airwaves from time to time and stats for in-game progress. However, nothing of these additions really matter. Statistics are just a pile of information that don’t effect the game one way or another from what I could tell, and the propaganda is too often obnoxious and uninteresting to pay attention to.

Hopefully down the line Q-Games will add in a few mechanics that help the game, such as gathering resources at a much faster rate than the sluggish wait-for-the-meter-to-run-out-before-resources-can-be-collected style and make a bus that moves at my own schedule rather than waiting for it. Hopefully down the line we can get a much better online experience where we can actually communicate and work together as a community.

Q-Games’ The Tomorrow Children is one of the most promising and intriguing of all the PlayStation 4 games that we are due to get next year- and considering just how great some of PS4’s planned 2016 games are, that really is saying something.

Today, we learned some more about the mysterious game, thanks to a rare bit of disclosure on how the game’s development is coming along by The Tomorrow Children’s game designer, Dylan Cuthbert. Cuthbert took to NeoGAF to discuss why the game had been delayed into the next year- and it appears that this was because of the addition of some online elements.

“We simply went crazy and added a whole ton of content and made the game a persistent online game,” he said. “The alpha had “stage clear” and “stage fail” situations but because of the awesome feedback we got during the test we decided to go whole hog on it so you can live in a town for as long as you can keep it alive.”

Cuthbert also brought up the game’s beta, which goes live in January next year. “Also, this beta test will allow you to move freely between towns as you like. So if you want to create a neogaffer town you can. It will be basically the final game minus a few tweaks influenced by the test itself. (and any bug fixes or fixes for problems we encounter!)”

Cuthbert promised that the development team will have a final release date for the game announced once the beta was done, and they were surer of their online backend holding up. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll update you as soon as one is announced.

Sony aren’t just showcasing their big games at TGS- for instance, a significant portion of their conference at TGS yesterday was dedicated to just the indie games that the PS4 is getting, even in Japan. One of the smaller games that they chose to highlight in this manner is one that they are working on themselves, along with studio Q-Games, the makers of the PixelJunk franchise.

The game looks absolutely adorable, as you can see. It has oodles of charm, which can somewhat mask the fact that there is some serious technology powering the game, making it look as realistic as it does (the age old assertion of a PlayStation game looking as good as a Pixar movie seems to be finally coming true).

The Tomorrow Children is due out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 some time soon. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we will keep you posted with all news and information.

Dylan Cuthbert's PS4 game slated for a release a few months from now.

Q Games’ The Tomorrow Children, the sandbox platforming adventure game with hints of Minecraft and EVE Online to it, will be launching exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in Fall 2015, the developer announced on the PlayStation Blog today. The slightly later than anticipated release date comes on the heels of the developer allegedly taking the time to add substantially to the game.

“Over the past several months, the team here at Q-Games has been hard at work on The Tomorrow Children, adding tons of new features previously unseen in trailers and the closed alpha last fall, as well as enriching the story and setting. Strange and magical tools, cute and unique clothing, and bizarre and imposing structures are just a few of the new additions players will be able to experience,” they said.

Alongside this, we also got a new trailer for the game (which happens to coincide nicely with E3 going on right now), which you can see for yourself above. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more information and coverage.
