Tango Gameworks’ The Evil Within, helmed by industry veteran Shinji Mikami, has a new release date. Bethesda’s Pete Hines announced at QuakeCon 2014 that in fact, the game hasn’t been delayed – it’s actually been pre-poned. It will now be out on October 14th, a full week before the earlier release.

This is nothing but good news considering the survival horror title was supposed to be out next year but was delayed to this year. It didn’t help that the game was supposedly set for August and didn’t arrive then either. Regardless, we’ll finally be able to explore the trials of Detective Sebastian Castellanos as he enters a demented world full of nightmarish demons.

The Evil Within will be out on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Are you looking forward to the game now that the release date has been brought forward? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Bethesda's Pete Hines says the developer will need to work hard to win over fans.

The next Doom from id Software may be a make or break opportunity for the developer, since Bethesda Softworks’ VP of marketing and PR Pete Hines says no one is assuming it will be awesome. This isn’t so much speaking out against the quality of the game so much as it being so long since a Doom title has been released. In today’s world, a new Doom will certainly have a lot to prove.

Speaking to MCV, Hines took the example of Wolfenstein, which was stuck in a rut before The New Order. “The last couple of games were either ‘ok’ or ‘not great’. It wasn’t a franchise where people were desperate for the next one. Wolfenstein isn’t Uncharted. We knew this would take some explaining. But developer Machine Games has now untarnished the IP.”

“We view that [Doom] similarly to Wolfenstein, because it’s been so long since the last Doom game. We are going in as if we need to prove ourselves all over again. We have no free passes. Nobody will assume this is going to be awesome.

“We are going to have to prove that this is something that’s going to be fun and different that you need to pay attention to. That has to be our default position, we can’t be: ‘It’s Doom, of course you’re going to play it’. But that just makes us work harder.”

Doom will be showcased at this year’s QuakeCon in a special sneak peek for attendees. So look forward to more details emerging from there.

Also: QuakeCon still exists.

After years and years of stunted development, id Software’s Doom 4 – now simply titled Doom – re-emerged as beta access was offered to those who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order. While news on the multiplayer beta is still to be revealed, it seems that Doom will be making an appearance at this year’s QuakeCon.

Yes, QuakeCon is some how still a thing. No, we don’t know how (or for how long).

Those who attend QuakeCon will receive an exclusive sneak peek at Doom as part of the Annual Welcome presentation. id Software revealed that it will be showing more of the game at a latter date but that it couldn’t resist showcasing something to those who supported the franchise over the years.

QuakeCon 2014 will be happening on July 17th to 20th in Dallas, Texas. Will you be attending the convention? What are your thoughts on Doom? Let us know in the comments below.
